No he didn't. Theis would have made less money than Fournier had Theis stayed. And this year they are under, so they don't have to worry about the repeater tax for the next four years. And who knows where the cap will be in 2026?

Next year, when Tatum's extension kicks in and with Kemba still on the books, the luxury tax bill will be steep, but it would have been less steep if they had been willing to pay Theis instead of Fournier. Hopefully Stevens can move Fournier to another team in a sign and trade, and get something more than another lilliputian guard in return.

Theis is a good player and he would have helped some against the Nets, but he's like the other centers they C's already have under contract for next year: not big enough to deal effectively with the Embiids of the world.

I do think Max is right in that the Jays are too alike to really be complementary, and his idea is to use Brown in part to bring in KAT. While the knock on KAT has been that he hasn't won anything and he's soft, Cedric, who knows something about playing tough down low, adamantly disputes that and thinks he's just the sort of player Tatum and the C's need to balance with Tatum's strengths.

other than moving Kemba for the obvious financial reasons now, I think I'm sticking a pin in offering up Jaylen in any moves until we get the new coach in here and see what they can do. Plus I really don't see them as that alike. I disagree with that statement. I think at times Jaylen was trying to do what Hayson does, just not as effectively. But a new coach with a new voice may have a different spin on things and maybe unlocks something different. Plus I'm sure whatever new coach coming in, will be attracted to the possibility of working with 2 young All-Stars. No certainty in that but I think it's worth holding off until we see. In the meantime, I don't think KAT nor Beal are even going anywhere for that matter so I think we'll get our chance to see anyway.
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

I think the market will dictate that decision more than Brad's or even Fournier's preference. He has to be looking for every last dollar and Boston has to have a point that they are better off taking the talent loss and repurposing the dollars. Very similar to Smart a few years ago actually but without the baggage good and bad.

My understanding at this point is that he his not viewed as a player that a team is going to commit cap space to. There is also going to be a supply of expensive 3 and no D wings available on the trade market who are no longer four or five year mistakes. I don't see Brad or anyone giving him 20 mil a year at least not on June 4. But the price almost always ends up higher than you expect but I think at 10-15 mil per year he is back and 15-20 is kind of a gut check beyond 20 forget about it.

Is this understanding...sourced?

I am still sticking with Billups as my top choice for the reason being I think he will be the most respected coach and motivator of the group.

From what I’m told, Becky Hammon will be formally introduced as head coach of the Boston Celtics next week. They are currently drawing straws to see who will be the one to tell Jay Larranaga to get out.

Hard pass on Hammon. Players tuned out that coaching staff and Hammon specifically this past year. Around league circles this is well known

I still think Cassell is the front runner from what I’ve heard due to his experience as an assistant and as a former player. He’s well respected around the league with players too. Chauncey I like too but doesn’t have enough experience to be head coach in my opinion.

Almost no chance Kara leaves Duke but crazier things have happened.

Just wondering if your sources are the same as mine. My sources told me that LMA was bought out because he was flirting too much with Becky. Is that true?

Haven’t heard that. Just know players were tuning her out in SA. She’s well respected among the coaching fraternity in the league but not so much with the players, especially for the guys who played team USA with her as an assistant with Pop.

If none of the posters on this forum don't even get as much as an initial interview for the head coaching position, then I just don't know what we're doing here.

100%

Good skill development guy with a track record of working with ballhanders like Steph, Jeremy Lin, Trae, etc. and helping them improve in their bbiq of how and when to probe defenses. Well respected by Coach Pop, Carlisle and others from his time with USA basketball, where he has already work with the Jay's and Marcus and Kemba. Off the court, his work with the NBA Social Justice Coalition will no doubt resonate with these players, especially Jaylen of course who already has a pretty good relationship with him. Brad loves him of course. He may make the most sense with one other candidate.

Sam Cassell has been an assistant for 11 years. If Brad wants experience, you can't do any better than him. Won 3 titles as a player including the last one here in Boston with this ownership group. So they know him here and he knows winning. And he knows winning in THIS city which is big. Also a great motivator and teacher as well who will have the cachet to walk into the room and command respect. And unlike Pierce, again he has the NBA playing (and winning) experience to relate to every player on the roster. He's been a top player on a team. He's played with Hakeem, Clyde, KG, Paul and a ton of great players in this league.

Obviously Chauncey too who is smart and has solid credentials but I now put him as 3rd in terms of likelihood behind these two.

I like Pierce too, but judging by the responses I got when I said I’d like him as a hire, we may be the only 3 on the board who feel that way.

I really like what I've seen of him as a person. Just very wary of his lack of success in his previous coaching jobs.

The Lakers front office has raved about assistant coach Jason Kidd, expressing how he’s been a phenomenal presence in the organization from his innovative ideas to his communicating skills and to his ability to rally the troops, sources said.

Kidd — who was previously a head coach in Brooklyn and Milwaukee — is expected to interview for the Boston Celtics head coach opening and is expected to be a top target of the Portland Trail Blazers with the anticipation that Terry Stotts will be relieved of his duties after nine seasons with the team, sources said.

The Lakers believe Kidd should be a top candidate among all available NBA coaching gigs.

OT, but L.A. is done - they gave up all their future flexibility for one championship and now AD is stuck in basketball purgatory again while Lebron winds down. You love to see it.

Don't worry i DM'd Brad on twitter, sending him my RGM resume and intrudced myself as the best qualified coach on the board. My two years of U12 basketball coaching expierience with footage of me yelling at the 11yr old forwards to move the damn ball, will surely impress him.

I want nothing to do with Jason Kidd. Wrong move for the Boston Celtics.
