The knicks aren't going from 41 wins to a championship. How about getting Dame, being a really good team and then see if we can keep adding pieces. If the knicks can get Dame you don't hesitate, if he doesn't want to leave then you move on.

No, we don't move on. We have to start over. Lillard has a contract until 2025 when he makes 55M (Lillard+Randle would cost us around 100M). If Lillard gets injured or washed, we are over and we have to start tanking again.

If somehow he stays the same shape until 2025 (like Bron, Curry and CP3), it will be tough to compete with only Lillard, Randle + role players. No cap space or picks.

randle, dame, and kawhi isnt better than durant, kyrie and harden.

Maybe not but not many if any trios are. I rather have a punchers chance at a chip which we would with that then none at all. I’ll take my chances going all in with that group

that group isn't winning chit.

that group has no depth at all.

that team will have bums like theo pinson, except 8 more of them.

in 3 years the knicks will suck and will continue to suck for the next decade because they have no draft picks to rebuild with.

but hey, dame time for 2, maybe 3 years!
LOL Y U MAD THO?

If that's what it takes, Imma pass on that. Melo trade II.

if Kawhi is coming with him...it would not be the Melo trade.

But yes, Dame on his own doesn't make us a contender. Need a 2nd piece.

if you can keep everyone else and trade just rj, see ya.

funny. you guys don't want to tank or trade for a superstar. but competing with one year vets with a 1% chance of signing a generational superstar in a few years you're all in ?

Dame still gonna be a big time player up until like age 36 IMO. So really like a 3-4 year window

This place really is a crazy town.

It’s like we never went through the Melo trade and didn’t deal with the consequence for 10 years

#1 option level just lasts till next season imo.

After that I'm not so sure.

I don't get why it was the melo trade that held us back.
maybe it was the bargnani trade? or not using the amnesty on amare? or giving lee + noah big contracts?

on my death bed i'll still be telling people the melo trade wasn't the problem, it was amare become a shell of himself. seeing it any other way is a lie.

Please let's get into the classic Chandler/Gallo/Mozgov vs Melo debates, I've missed them so much

Young teams don’t win championships.. the sooner some if here accept that.. the easier it will be to digest when the Knicks do try to go all in

I really don't know how people don't get this. **** incredible.

trading role players and picks for a top 10 player and then **** up every move after that --> WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TRADED FOR THE STAR

look at the lakers. with a healthy ad they're champions, without him they can't get out of the 1st round. you can't have one of your stars become useless and blame the other one for not being able to do the job of both.

Ok, fine. I'll bite. If we can get Lillard, keeping Mitch is a must to keep defenders from blitzing the 3 point line. Also defense.

Big reason why we lost vs. Atlanta is they didn't need to worry that much about Noel and could attack our shooters and Randle. To make no mention of Elf but that kinda resolves itself with the whole Lillard thing.

Either option is great!

This is going to be a very interesting off season.

Agreed. That's why we're hearing this kind of stuff today. KAT with a bonafide #1 killer dominating the ball would be super intriguing.

The defense tho...

I think the right coach's scheme and mentality has a decent shot at turning KAT into an above average defender. I'm not saying it's a lock, but I truly believe that potential is legitimately there.

And KAT is already being slept on offensively because he's played for a losing organization and got clowned by Butler. Dude is a monster (I know you didn't say he wasn't or anything).

KAT: .387 on 6.3 3FGA per game, .859 FT%

The Melo trade wasnt the problem. It was Amare's health deterioration, the roster construction and decision making afterward. Lack of assets was a problem yes but not saving the amnesty for Amare's deal, Amnestying an expiring contract in Billups, not getting value for Lin, Trading for Bargs etc. those moves were all very very bad.

Trading for lillard isn't perfect either but he's much better than anything we have. Obviously a Dame + Kawhi + Julius big 3 would be the goal. Perfectly fine with not trading for Dame. Perfectly fine with trading for him.

If you can keep Mitch and or IQ you do it. Anybody talking bout keeping RJ is delusional. He's our blue chipper him plus 4 FRP plus 2 swaps and Obi are the deal and they prolly getting IQ too. Personally would consider another protected first to keep IQ.

Mitch/Noel/Taj
Randle/Melo/ ring chaser 3
Kawhi/Ring chaser 1
Bullock/Burks/ ring chaser 2
Dame/Rose/Frank (LMAO)

Can that team win a chip? Possibly. In the East its a top 2 or 3 squad. Maybe we can get better bench players. Should be good defensively and has 2 closers and a couple 3 point shooters.
