Jeff Green is not a good defensive player, not sure why that narrative keeps getting pushed. He's average at best, with moments of being quite good, but other moments of being quite bad. He's not very good at limiting dribble penetration, he's not that good on the defensive glass, and he gets his lunch money taken any time a bigger player takes him down in the post. He's got some length, some vet savvy, and when he does move his feet and stays in front of his man, he's quite effective, but he's inconsistent with it. I also think he has a lot of mental lapses on the defensive end too.
Definitely more of an offensive player. Overachieved and shot the 3 ball way better than he typically has throughout his career. Also did a good job mixing things up and became useful as a roll man and cutter, similar to what Bruce Brown has done. But he's absolutely the type of role player who is very capable of coming crashing back down to earth in the PS, and shooting like 25% from 3 and becoming a liability at that point.
All in all, he's a really nice role player to have, but I don't think it's all that detrimental to lose him. Blake imo is actually clearly better at pretty much everything, except for spot up shooting, but he wasn't that far off actually. He's more disciplined and smarter defensively (takes a lot of charges and better as a positional defender imo), and is more capable as a ball handler and passer and overall decision-maker. Brown has the best awareness on the team by far in terms of cutting at the right time and making himself available, which has made him such a good roll threat. Does a much better job than Green at getting his hands in passing lanes and being a pesky on-ball defender, but he commits way too many dumb fouls. Claxton is easily our best defensive player, who can switch onto wings no problem, can defend the rim, can rebound, can cause deflections, and is consistently in the right place at the right time. He doesn't have much offensive skill outside of being a lob threat, but with our big 3, that's plenty good enough.
I think more Claxton and Griffin, with Brown sprinkled in, and we won't miss Green at all.

The drawback with Claxton and Brown is that they allow Brook to stay in the game and clog the lane, which allows their perimeter defenders to be more aggressive.

Not exactly how it works. After high PnR that we run it demands other player to switch. Brook always drop back, can't afford that if Kyrie or Harden have that rock.

Best not to rush him back. Get well soon, Uncle Jeffy.

We miss Green's shooting. Anyone who says Green being out hurts us defensively is exposing themselves.

Green is a decent defender against big players like Giannis and Lopez. He can hold his own in the paint. I think he is an important piece in this series and hope he gets back soon. We need uncle Jeff.

BUT every team’s kind of banged up anyways. The Lakers’ stars are banged up. Embiid is out right now. Divincenzo is out for the season. So in the end it might not matter too much. But it would be a lot harder without him. Nets are already too small and soft with Jeff Green so without him it makes it much worse. Somebody has to step up in his place. DJ, Claxton, or Shamet.
Jeff green is not the 4th best player on the team. he may not be in the top 7.
-Big3 + Harris is lock top 4.
-5 is probably Blake.
-6 is probably claxton
-7 is brown or green
Green has been a great role guy. everything he does is replaceable by blake, brown or claxton... and honestly as i said above, its probably a good thing it forces nash to play claxton more, who is far and away our best defender and lob threat
