Hooray, Kidd doesn't want to coach here!

I am so damn happy.

I think Becky Hammon or Vanterpool are two of our top options.

Honestly, I would not imagine the next coach has much job security or is very attractive in a "career building" sense. They are basically expected to perform better than Stotts in their first year, there are a lot more avenues toward failure than success in that situation. Huge pressure from day 1. (Of course, its also huge reward so those with big balls feel free to apply)

A rookie or even young and not well established coach would want to have a lot of support from upper management to take this job - knowing this may be a step backwards in order to take two steps forward. Otherwise I expect a more experienced and well established coach, someone who has a proven track record who really believes they are ready day 1 to coach a playoff level team with the expectations that come with the job. But growing pains of some level should always be expected.

I am still most intrigued by Billups.

Hammon is a pioneer for sure but i’d be inclined to give her a lead assistant job more than a hc job at this juncture as i think there are better options out there. Vanterpool would be solid and has a history here of being respected by key players

Anything less than second round next season is unacceptable, no excuses about injury or anything else. Second round or else get another head coach. Same standard ad infinitum.

Billups is NO's guy. He spent two years with the Clippers when NO was the team's GM. His job security rests on him and not Dame.

NO's job security is not set in stone. Whoever is named coach needs to have team personnel that feel they can
win with. He will need more than just Dame to win in the playoffs.

Joke or not, imagine someone reading this who was the victim of domestic abuse. Your lack of empathy and perspective is astounding at times.

Ill say this once, this is not acceptable and you are on thin ice.

I have no problem imaging how a victim of domestic violence would feel about my joke. I can even ask, so I wouldn't need to imagine. All people aren't the same, even if they have domestic violence in their past.

Maybe you have a problem understanding the joke. The target of the humor is the abuser, not the abused.

The only empathy I lack is the fake empathy that is so prevalent today, especially online. You can hurl your insult and warning 1000x, it carries no weight with me. I'm fine with this being my last day in this forum.

Edit:. Not that I don't also have empathy for abusers, I understand there is a little victim inside every abuser waiting to be heard.

indeed. If we don’t win it’ll be NO and probably yet another new coach as the next fork in the road is full on rebuild if we can’t get close to a title.

It’s true olshey probably is on the hot seat here. There’s a very short window until Dame gets fed up if it’s not already here and when that time comes i think olshey will be on the first plane out of town. I think, whether fair or unfair, the expectation is wcf in the next 2 years and a hard fought championship run, if we sit where we are without any major moves there’s no one else other than olshey left to point at. It’s surprising he is in charge of fixing this mess of a roster given then i think even in this circumstance he may be too high on his guys to deal cj

So long as we are clear where the line is then everything is hunky dory.

Olshey is hiring the next coach and hopefully his successor after he is fired. Olshey will be here to decide where Lillard will end his career.

Didn’t think about the Olshey/Billups connection from Clippers. Yeah, I think you’re right about that too. NO likes his guys he knows.

I really think Billups is the guy too.

Apparently Kidd opted out due to dame being so public about his support of him. I wonder if olshey & the team will ever learn that going off of Dame’s whims isn’t gonna win us a title anyways and rather than appease him just make the best decision for the team. Feels like on one hand Dame says he wants to do what’s best for the team and then on the flip side by his actions he isn’t willing to necessarily trust other people to put him in the best spot to win a title (maybe with good reason but still..). If billups is the guy hopefully it’s because he’s qualified rather than trying to appeal to our best player for dame is locked up awhile and at 31 and super max money he is being paid to play the game more than be a general manager or director of player personnel

I’ve let it be known that I’ve never been a real fan of Stotts. That being said, there is no known coach out there that is a step up…only steps down.

They person I’ve wanted in that position for years is Monty Williams, but that opportunity was missed and that ship has sailed. Blazers will almost certainly be worse next season. They need to put a package together that includes CJ (like they should have years ago) and get back a bonafide Allstar caliber player. Management has to prove to Lillard that they are trying or I believe he’ll split—despite everything he’s ever said.

Blazers will almost certainly be better next year, provided we sign Powell. No changes are needed to get better. We only need the good fortune of Nurkic, CJ, and Collins to be available in more games. Especially, Nurkic and Collins, we have no way to replace their size and defense.

I don't see how firing Stotts will make anything better, but it also doesn't make anything worse. I'm confident Olshey will hire a competent head coach. And, we will have a competent coaching staff.

Nobody has mentioned Lillard's actively being involved in this off-season makes all the dumb talk of Lillard demanding a trade completely ridiculous. Oh well, there is nothing people like better than dumb ridiculous talk.

Edit:. Actually, I believe we could be better even if Powell leaves.

I like Billups, but I like Jeff Hornacek better. It would be perfect if we hired both.

I wonder why horn doesn’t get more love? Seems like a solid candidate. He’s never made the playoffs but he’s had some lousy teams

Hornacek was a mediocre athlete that made himself into one of NBA's best players through hard work and his wits. Basketball is in his blood. His dad was a coach. Years ago, I was listening to a Musclehead interview on my way to a Blazers playoff game. Musclehead spoke very highly of Hornacek. Musclehead and Dick Harter interviews were the best basketball education you can get.

Another thing I’ll mention…it’s bad business to sell CJ now. Every team is licking their chops when it comes to Portland, wondering what’s going to happen—hoping for an opportunity to take advantage.

Blazers should have sold high years ago.

Juwan seems better than chauncey. At least he’s won in college and has less of a checkered past. Billups is relatively new to coaching, might be another guy potentially to bring in as an assistant in a higher capacity

I’m hoping we are waiting for Bud, that’d be a great get if the bucks blow it in the playoffs. Bidding up and overpaying for Rick carlisle would be great but obviously a pipe dream that would never happen as he’s in a good situation in dallas
