Will the 2018 NBA draft be the best ever?
I’ve thought it was since last year. Name just ONE draft that produced a GOAT candidate (Luka), 3 other future superstar level guys in (Trae, SGA, Ayton), multiple future all star, or high level starter guys like JJJ, Mikal Bridges, MPJ, Miles Bridges, Huerter.
Then you have about 5 other guys likely to be really good role players long term such as Divencenzo, Wendell Carter, Sexton, Walker etc.
I don’t see any argument for another draft TBH. That draft class has completely changed the future of the league for the next decade. This year Luka in the playoffs reminded people of young Jordan or Lebron. Ayton is emerging as a dominant star big in the playoffs.
Trae is dominating the playoffs. SGA took a leap to stardom this year. Everyone drafted pretty much is still playing on a team or has shown upside. Even guys like Okogie have looked really good at times.
STACKED.

1996 NBA draft produced:
Allen Iverson
Marcus Camby
Steve Nash
Kobe Bryant
Ray Allen
Stephan Marbury
Shareef Abdur Rahim
Peja Stojakovic
Jermaine O'Neal
Kerry Kittles
Antonie Walker
Zydrunas Ilgauskas
Several other rotational players as well.
It also takes 5+ years to properly assess a draft so I dont think its "pretty obvious" that 2018 is the best ever. Quite often middling young players get overhyped early on.

Because these guys have been in the league for all of three years? I agree it's easily the best draft of the past five years and probably the best of the last ten years, and it may go down as an all-time draft when all is said and done, but these guys have barely started, so it is premature to say the least to crown it above 1984, 1996, 2003, etc.

Philly trading Mikal Bridges (who was not only a perfect fit, but a home town kid) for Zhaire Smith is mind bending...and this ain't hindsight

I think 96 is the only one depth wise that can compete, but don’t see it topping this.
Luka is pacing a top 5 all time player spot. Better than the likes of Nash/Kobe/Allen/AI by a long shot. So match him up with Kobe, and he’s on pace to surpass him for sure. Trae is the Iverson of the group where he likely has a couple epic playoff runs and wins 1 MVP, but never quite wins enough.
SGA will take on Nash his hero and not live up to that MVP level, but will be a perennial star, fellow Canadian hero and the leader of a multi championship team.
The top 5 is tightly matched, but the bigger gap is when you get out of that. The middle and lower draft depth is far superior. The late lottery too. I think at worst now we can agree 2018 is the 2nd or 3rd best ever with a good case for #1.

It's only been three years. Health permitting, it will go down as one of the best drafts. Did people say 2003 was the best draft in 2006? Or did the players' careers have to play out?

3 years or not, it’s not too soon to say talent, trajectory, current production wise it’s top 5 all time or even top 3. Maybe to most it’s too soon to declare it #1, but my bigger issue is the handful who refuse to even CONSIDER that.
I see a future in the next couple years where Ayton, Luka, Trae, SGA are all making conference finals appearances, battling each other.

Because there are no MVP players in it yet. There are no HOF players in it yet. None of the better picks have won a finals yet.
Its way to early. Imagine what happens if a rash of injuries occur?

Probably would have been if Bagley was at least a starting PF or borderline All Star

Do you think it has as good of a shot as any draft since 1996? Because that’s 25 years ago.

The 1984 draft is clearly the best with MJ, Olajuwon, Barkley, and Stockton. Hard to see four players of that caliber ever coming out of one class.

Plus a future unprotected first. I wanted Mikal but Zaire was also being talked up because of his raw athletic ability. Sadly, the kid suffered a severe allergic reaction to sesame oil.

Didn’t the Sixers use the Miami pick that the Suns traded to get Bridges to help acquire Tobias Harris?

Even if Luka and Trade end up becoming hall of famers. The 2018 class won't even be top 5 all time lol.

In the end of the First Round, we had Time Lord and Shamet.
In the second round, we had Jalen Brunson, Devonte Graham, Mitch Robinson, Gary Trent Jr, Bruce Brown, Monte Morris, Melton and Shake Milton.

I agree with most of this, but flat out disrespectful to put Colin Sexton in the role player category.
You also have Gary Trent Jr., Shamet, Anfernee Simons and im still probably forgetting a couple out that class
But yeah, its looking like the best challenger to the 96 class for best ever.
