So I originally had the same thought but if it is before the 2 minute mark letting the ball roll is a high IQ play. Prior to 2 minutes the game clock runs but the shot clock does not. So by letting the ball run you can drain 10-15 seconds off the clock without impacting your shot clock.
So in reality Philly who was significantly behind should have forced Trae to pick it up and not let game time run off without the shot clock running.
