Embiid’s playstyle means he’ll get more tired and stink it up in the 2nd half of many games. Looking at last night’s games, in the 2nd half he took many plays off and just shot a lot of brick jumpers. If he doesn’t score, he doesn’t do anything for you offensively. And the refs love to give him an incredibly favorable whistle, Jokic with that kind of whistle would be another level higher. Still, I’d say Embiid is 2nd best per minute this season behind Jokic, so a great player nonetheless

175 points in 168 minutes and 150 of those points came at the free throw line.

Not impressed.

Sucks for Embiid, he did have a great season, MVP calibre season in any year, but Jokic was just unstoppable, Jokic played w/o his co-star 21 games and had 14-7 record.

I actually agree, but it's not really relevant unless, UNLESS, we end up seeing a Jokic/Embiid matchup in the Finals when you might have the potential for another Hakeem/Admiral "oh so YOU'RE the MVP?" matchup. Would be fun.

Otherwise Jokic is MVP, and part of being MVP is adding value for your team. Have to play in most of the games in order to add that value.

Embiid's availability is going to hold back his eventual ranking, but he's the only guy in a long time that has the entire package to be held up in the same stratosphere as the great HOF 2-way centers of the 90s. The guy where you could drop him in in 1994 and have him matchup nightly with Hakeem, Admiral, Ewing, Mourning, Shaq etc. and fit right in as another monster who could win any given matchup on any given night.

Why does Jokic give so many people jock itch, here?
He's a deserving MVP. Deal with it. Sheesh!

It's literally a regular season award.

I think comparing Jokic and Embiid is like comparing Luka and Kawhi. They're both incredible players that do different things, and I wouldn't argue much over anyone taking one over the other. That said I'm not really cool with this "he only won because of injuries" talk, Embiid might have won if healthy but he certainly wasn't having an obviously better year on a per-game basis. Jokic was a deserving MVP in any year

Jokic didn't deserve to win but what can you do? It's a regular season award anyways hopefully he takes it personal and continues to show himself as better this playoffs.

The most important ability for a player is avail-ability and Embiid is the LVP when it comes to that.

One thing to note about this years PO is that the Wizards had pathetic interior defenders and the Hawks also aren’t a big team (Capela’s a good defender in many ways but not great one on one on a guy like Embiid). Still waiting to see Joel challenged a little more to gauge his dominance at this new improved stage of his career.

(Also PSA that folks should consider removing ‘the best ability is availability’ from your vocabulary, it’s tired at this point and it also isn’t accurate—50 games of Embiid is obviously better than 65 of like Vincent Poirier or even solid guys like D Gafford or Brook Lopez. Just not a good phrase for a real discussion.)

lol, congrats to Clippers to winning the playoff series. But they would have lost had Lillard played for the Mavs.

Embiid obviously is a better per-minute guy, but I don't think you can get away with saying he's a more impactful player than Jokic. Any player with great playmaking is instantly more impactful than any player without it. Playmaking is THE most important skill in the NBA.
