Tom Thibeaudeau NBA Coach of the Year
I'm not the type who hates to say I told you so. I did tell you so. I told you all that Saunders sucked and I told you all that Thibs is good. Thibs is a good coach who got railroaded here. Now I know I will hear a millioin rebuttals as to why he sucks so much, but wins and losses are the name of the game and he is well above average.

I would have tried to get Golden state or Charlotte to pony up for the chance to draft Wiseman. As of now drafting Wiseman over Ant or Melo appears to have been a bad move. Regardless the subject of this topic is Thibs Good. Sub Topic Saunders had no business being an NBA HC.

Re: Tom Thibeaudeau NBA Coach of the Year
Don't care. He sucked in his role that he forced himself into thinking he could perform in (GM/coach) for the Wolves and he flat out couldn't cut it. He stagnated the development of our young players, either cutting their roles, trading them, or asking them to do things that may have lead to slight improvements "now", but at the expense of their development.
He turned a team that was maturing into a potential high ceiling contender with a core that fit into the same timeline and forced a short competing window taking huge risks at the expense of the locker room, team dynamic, and long-term growth and it completely backfired and turned the Wolves into a circus.
He may be a good coach and may have good qualities, but he did a horrible job here in the role that he put himself in. I don't care what he does anywhere else, he was horrible for the Wolves.

Re: Tom Thibeaudeau NBA Coach of the Year
I never thought he was a bad coach or that Saunders was a superior one. I think Thibs handled his position poorly, I don't think he should have been the coach and GM. I think he badly botched the Jimmy Butler situation though I agree with his move to bring Butler in.
He's a good coach who had too much power and not enough oversight in his time here. He fumbled the Butler relationship, made some bad front office choices, and he alienated much of the media and fans. At the end of the day he was in a position to be fired for multiple reasons, it doesn't mean he's a terrible coach but things didn't work out and it was fair for him to go.
Sam Mitchel won coach of the year and people think he's terrible. Brad Stevens was seen as a coaching savant and now has to be forced into the front office.
You have Bucks fans calling for Bud's head right now and we know what he has done.
Good coaches can have bad seasons and they get fired for it all the time. Thibs is will have some bad years in New York too but right now he's having a great one. Good for him and that organization.

As I predicted. ZachAttack saying he sucked.
I thought the Wolves were coming together after the Butler trade right when Thibs got fired. Went into an immediate downward spiral the moment Saunders got the job.

Honestly I don't think Thibs is a great coach, but I do think he's a good one who got screwed when Butler went PSYCHO. I don't believe Butler going PSYCHO was within Thibs control.

I would have voted for Monte Williams, but Thibs would have been my #2 for this year.
However, a good coach has to adapt to get the most out of the players he has on his roster, and it’s hard to say Thib’s did that here.

Re: Tom Thibeaudeau NBA Coach of the Year
Ive seen more creativity and willingness to adapt from Finch in half a season than Thibs’ entire career.
No doubt Thibs is a much better coach than Ryan. But I’d much rather have Finch going forward than still have Thibs darkening the sidelines.

Good coach. Bad GM/POBO. His short term moves for brief success set us back in the not that long term. Another decision maker or two like he has in NY might prevent that.

Good coach that wears on players/fans/management as time goes on..maybe age and learning will change him, but the way he treats people isn't sustainable in the long run for 1 team
Dysfunctional Wolves fan

Thibs was trying to make chicken salad outa chicken $h!t here ... his dual role was not good, but he can coach. Yes, he does wear on an organization though. Ryan was not ready. Finch will be good.

I have high hopes for Finch and would probably take him over Thibs. However, if Butler had not gone PSYCHO the Wolves might be looking real good right now. I wish Thibs and NY all the best.

Re: Tom Thibeaudeau NBA Coach of the Year
Besides his ineptitude as POBO, his other big problem was that his personality was mismatched with our two best players - KAT and Wiggs. By the time Thibs came on board, KAT and Wiggs both had some success, each winning ROY honors.
Perhaps if Thibs would have been the coach during their rookie years, he could have molded them into the type of players we hoped they would be (i.e. good at defense). Instead, I think they both looked at Thibs and often wondered "why is this guy always yelling at me, doesn't he realize I was rookie of the year?"
I also think having Glen Taylor as owner has hand cuffed the franchise ever since KG left. I think other players around the league and their agents saw how our all time best player was treated by Glen Taylor, and the word is out that our franchise should be avoided. Add that to the poor winter weather and it's almost impossible to bring in notable free agents without massively overpaying.

Re: Tom Thibeaudeau NBA Coach of the Year
You can't knock Thibs results here. He really did make a drastic change for us in year 2. We were in a position to be a perennial playoff team and maybe make some good runs. Butlers games was a much-needed component we never have had here. He's the best SG in franchise history and he played he for such a short stint.
If Butler was happy to be here and wanted to stay our trajectory would be very different. We would have had years to build on the KAT/Jimmy core. More players would have been brought in to compliment them and we would probably be able to get another star by this point. Maybe we don't win a title but we could be in the same position as a Denver or Utah these last few years,
The one thing that was baffling was how Thibs could not generate a good defense here, I guess he just didn't have the personnel to do what he wanted but you would think at the minimum he would have been able to make that better. The one time he did have really good defense was when RoCo first came over. We were elite for like three weeks.

Thibs inherited the 28th ranked defense.
In his first season, he improved it all the way to 27th.
Then he added Butler and Taj and was able to finish with the...27th ranked defense...
As far as Butler goes, it was a great trade at the time because I don't think anyone realized just how unhappy of a human being Jimmy must be. It sounds like it's very possible that he'll be on his 5th team in 6 years next season.

I wonder if the Nuggets would trade that one and done 2018 playoff berth for Michael Porter Jr.. probably not ,Thibs was a giant failure here.

We all know that you are a big fan of losing. You want us to tank at every opportunity. Others don't believe in losing.
