To be fair, Porzingis actually did turn into an all-star. Not a true #1 option/franchise player, but definitely a building block. He just hasn't been the same since his injury.

But Knicks fans definitely did a number of Frank, Knox and Channing Frye.

Bringing back Frank on an Austin Rivers type team option heavy 3 year deal at 3-4 million would be healthy for both parties.
I would still like to see what Frank can become next to a true floor general - a Luguentz Dort type perhaps.
He's good enough for Thibs to play him in key defensive sequences in the playoffs, so he's good enough to be a defensive specialist in the NBA. A 10-12mpg type role at that contract seems fair.

I think Frank could have been special. I remember his first year, when he ran the offense it seemed like he was seeing two passes ahead. Now his confidence is ruined - he needs a fresh start elsewhere.

He may become nothing, but like John Wallace, I will always think he could have been special. Doesn't make me right.

I remember when (way too many) Knicks fans (on this board actually) who were hyped on Mardy Collins being the next great Knick PG...all because he was 6'6" and had the words "PG" next to his name on Temple's team roster. Most never ever watched him (or the Owls) play or needed (much stronger) prescriptions on their eyewear (if they had watched him play with Temple).

Wait...what and who? Frank Ntilikina? His assists to turnover ratio and assist % were the worst during his 1st year in the league. His OBPM (a measure of how well the teams offense executed when he was on the floor) in his 1st year was the 2nd worse of his 4 year Knick career. That's hardly an indication that in his 1st year he was "seeing 2 passes ahead" then subsequently tailed off as the years passed. IMO he didn't see any passes ahead and lacked innate feel for passing (just as he lacked the innate feel for scoring). What he did and does is have solid fundamentals and an aptitude in understanding what a basketball player should and shouldn't do in specific situations and the basic concepts of team basketball. But there's a difference between that and having an innate feel for passing (what you need for a PG that can "see 2 passes ahead") which is what top tier NBA PG's have to have. You can't teach innate feel for the game. The notion that he could do much more than he has and that it was the Knicks who refused to allow him to do that is just farfetched if that's what you are implying. It's one thing if the Knicks had a top tier veteran PG and the Knicks were winning in that time period and he just got lost in the shuffle but they've had no real PG's during Franks entire tenure and he still could not do anything. If he can't beat out the likes of Trey Burke, Emmanuel Mudiay and Elfrid Payton (and even Dennis Smith Jr) for playing time that's says a lot about your ability as a PG.
