Blazers/Heat/Bucks blockbuster

Post#1 » by slos » Thu Jun 10, 2021 11:26 pm

Three team trade

Portland in Butler, Connaughton
Portland out McCollum, Simons, Little, Collins, 2023 FRP

Milwaukee in McCollum
Milwaukee out Lopez, DiVincenzo, Connaughton, #31

Miami in Lopez, DiVincenzo, Simons, Little, Collins, #31, POR 2023 FRP
Miami out Butler

Why Portland? They go all in with Butler, give him the max extension and hope he works well with Dame and the new coach for a final run to the title. Blazers resign Powell to complete with RoCo and Nurkic their starting 5. They will have to be creative for their depth since only Connaughton, Jones and Elleby will be under contract and they will already be close to the tax line with 8 players under contract.

Why Bucks? They also go all in using their limited assets for another overpaid - but way better than DDV - guard next to their Big 3. McCollum will be used as PG allowing Jrue return to SG and help Bucks with their ball movement and shooting issues. Less PG Middleton and less point forward Giannis will be the side bonus. Milwaukee will have to pay big money for the next three years, since they will have 150 mil tied to 9 players (Bryant/Merrill/Nwora/Thanasis/Diakite the others) and some tough decisions to make about Forbes/Tucker/Portis and their tax-MLE.

Why Miami? They took a massive step back this year and look far from being considered a contending team again. They take the tough decision to cash in Butler and avoid paying him max money at 34-35 y/o. No premium asset here, but multiple young players and two mid low picks. Heat create also some extra cap space to sign Lowry (2y/50mil) and along with Brook help this young group led by Bam go to the next level. They also keep Dipo with a cheap contract to retain his Bird rights.

Lowry........DiVincenzo....#31
Herro........Simons.........Dipo
Robinson....Nunn...........Little
Adebayo.....Collins.........Okpala
Lopez........Achiuwa.......Dedmon

Miami will ask for Middleton (in which case it doesn't really work for us) or take CJ themselves.

IF the front office decides to blow it up and this was the offer for JB, they should call up the Dubs instead. This one is DOA. Short off-season, injuries, and COVID killed them this year. Another thing, why would Kyle agree to be here if you’re trading one of his best friends?

Wow, that is hardcore awful for Miami. Just nothing at all worth trading Jimmy for. Really really bad.

Connaughton asked Portland to renounce his rights, so I don't think he wants to return.

Not sure how other teams view Simons, but I know our GM values him. Probably have a better chance getting an additional 1st than dealing him.

Love the idea of something built around CJ+picks for Butler, but you have to get Miami on board.

Bucks steal value. But then I'm sure they'll point to CJ's contract, which would be fair if they were dealing a player like Middleton instead of a collection of meh pieces.

I can see Miami not wanting to commit big money to a 31-year old Butler, but there has to be some value appropriate incentive picks and prospects wise for them to justify moving him. This trade isn't it.

McCollum to Bucks cant work, makes too much money and would be big downgrade from Middleton
