Artest couldn't even knockout some random couch potato fan in the stands *who actually didn't back down from him. Faced him eye to eye too and didn't budge.
He let loose on the fans because he couldn't on somebody his own size like Wallace.
He's a bully and bullies are weak cowards.

Being afraid of Ben Wallace does make you a coward now?
That dude?
wouldn't that make Big Ben the scariest? Either way Artest started a fight then tapped out before the fight started, Was trying to punk Ben and wasn't even ready for smoke. The makings of someone who only beats on those that won't fight back
Yeah he is, even Ron said so in some interviews, you don't want to get Ben mad lol

Lol, Pekovic would RIP off his head and sh** in his neck.
He retired from the NBA to be a Serbian mobster.
Realistically speaking, it's almost certainly someone from the NFL. Reggie White comes immediately to mind. 6'5", 300 pounds and absurdly powerful. He threw, legit threw, 300+ pound offensive linemen with one hand. That was his signature move. Not a spin or a rip. His was one arming the biggest players on the field. Even Larry Allen.
At least Reggie would pray for your soul after he took it.
I thought you may have been joking about Pekovic but damn it’s true lol.

Generally the toughest guys are the low key ones you wouldn’t suspect until you push them. So we can guess but we really don’t know.

Yes, that guy. Ask Jeff McInnis who was afraid to leave the lockerroom. Ask Tyrone Hill who got beat up on sight until he paid him his money.Childs wrote:boomershadow wrote:KhalilS wrote:If Ron Artest is fake tough, Who are the real tough ones? Dude was really scary.
There are some scary tough soccer player (Gattusso and Diego Simeone) but they weren't 6'7" built like a tank.

I know of Charles Oakley's disposition. He was on the Raptors. But if you were to tell me back in 2001, that he would be on a dance show.

This thread never should have been made. He ran away from Ben Wallace and then attacked a guy with glasses half his size.
What about Nikola Pekovic? 6'11 300 pounds with a tattoo of a knight standing on top a pile of skulls. We used to joke that he'd add a new skull to that tattoo after he destroyed each of his victims in the low post.
Since he's retired, he's apparently become a mobster/drug lord running the streets.

Re: Is Ron Artest the scariest non combat athlete of all time
I would say Ron was the scariest not because he was the best fighter but because he was most likely to do something unpredictable AND he was a pretty tough dude. Ben Wallace would have won the fight but generally followed rules of engagement.
Oakley is a good one too. He also followed rules of engagement but had a very low threshold for "engagement" and gambled. Very "I challenge you to a duel" type.

His arena song at Target Center was the theme from “The Godfather” which in hindsight was quite an omen. Wallace would be washing his car and mowing his lawn if Pek said so.

My alternate guy would be Lyle Alzado. Scary, scary dude…no doubt steroids played a part in that and also in his early demise. Sad story but he was a monster on the field.

A couple of basketball related Lawrence Taylor stories:
However, there was one former Tar Heel that [Jordan's UNC teammate Buzz] Peterson claims actually scared Jordan.
“There is one guy that I always thought, and I know to this day — I don’t know if Michael won’t admit or not, but I swear that he had a little bit of fear of — and it wasn’t a basketball player. It was a football player by the name of Lawrence Taylor. LT, phenomenal athlete. Could guard east to west, as quick as anybody, could jump, big hands, strong and was a bit crazy. So Michael in the back of his mind said, ‘Sh-t, I better be careful with this guy.’ And LT always wanted to guard him.”
Yes, Lawrence Taylor is just as devastating on the basketball floor as he is on the football field. So testifies Cleveland Cavalier rookie Brad Daugherty who has played with the linebacker in summer pickup games at North Carolina, their alma mater.
Daugherty told this story to The Sporting News: “We were playing--me, Al Wood and some of the guys we have there now, like Kenny Smith. It was 11-10 and we were playing to 15 when Lawrence walked in and said, ‘I want to play.’ We said, ‘We’re almost done. You can have the next game.’ L.T. said, ‘I want to play now.’
“I said, ‘Lawrence, be patient. Four more points.’ He said, ‘If I ain’t playing, no damnbody’s playing.’ He reached up and tore down the rim and backboard and walked away with it.”
Add Daugherty: “Everyone thinks I’m crazy when I say this, but Lawrence Taylor could play in the NBA. He couldn’t start, but he could help just about every team. He would have to lose a little weight, but he’s so quick and so strong. I’ve never seen a guy that big who could jump that high.”
Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting.

Still waiting for a clip of one of James Johnson's 27 sanctioned fights. People bring it up in every thread, and dip out when asked to present evidence.

Between football and Hockey, the answer almost certainly lies somewhere in there. Those are true contact sports. Basketball isn’t.

I do not think Ron Artest wanted to mess with Ben Wallace. Mr. Mean Larry Smith was a tough basketball player.
My eyes glaze over when reading alternative stat (not advanced stat) narratives that go many paragraphs long. If you can not make your point in 2 paragraphs it may not be a great point.

you overestimate basketball players. i'll put 80% of the nfl up against artest, the remainder being qb's, punters, kickers, and waterboys. bball players are skilled people in a skill sport too tall for their own good
