Prince is a bad contract. Getting someone to take him for free would be a win (and unlikely).

He's also going to be expiring. How "bad" a contract is gets drastically reduced by becoming an expiring, especially when leading into offseasons that are expected to possibly have good FAs to go after.

Sure, 1 year is less bad than 2. Like 1 cavity versus 2 at the dentist. Doesn't change that it is bad.

And 1 year of bad is less than 2+ years of bad which is what you would look to do with Prince as an expansion team to pull out as many draft assets as you can.

I wouldn’t.
Much better to take a whole bunch of min contracts and get even more incentive taking 2+ bad year contracts for TPE than for less incentive and a bad contract.
Or get paid to expansion draft the players directly. Simplest and cleanest and way better than the other team getting sadly with Prince. And had the advantage of being able to cut the player with no team salary hit if old rules remain.
Taking Prince first just gives Cleveland value for free.
But trying to go somewhere useful, what teams have 2+ year bad contracts and are willing to pay to dump them?

I wouldn't count on an Ibaka opt out coming off this injury. I think his market isn't north of the MLE and he chose the Clippers already. I'd protect him to be safe. Coffey an easy switch.
I also think they protect Kennard and leave Rondo or PatBev unprotected. Can't see an expansion team taking either guy, but could see them taking Kennard.

I think the Clippers need to protect Kennard; just not to potentially lose a contributor. But that might just be me, I certainly see the argument he is a bad contract and won't be picked.

Sonics say: Are you willing to trade the 2023 most favorable of ATL/CHA/BKN 2nd to keep Hill? They have little interest in the Knicks pick (#50) or a future Sixers 2nd in the 50s.

Who of that group would you be picking? I think I could find players I'd rather have from enough teams that I'd take #42 and feel pretty good about it. Unless specifically it was Plumlee as a vet leader or a guy you felt you could flip for even more there isn't much there.

Hmm. Depends on how you feel about Lee, he's the only one I'd consider taking over 42. I'd probably say accept but it's close

Plumlee or UFA Frank and try to sign him. But I could be sold on taking the pick.

I'll protect Kennard for Coffey, but if Ibaka opts in should I unpprotect Oturu or one of the veteran PGs? I say if Clippers are going to protect Kennard they also protect Bev and Rondo and keep the contributors/expiring contracts, Oturu might not get taken anyways

I don't think any of them get taken. Neither Rondo nor Bev have the personalities an expansion team should want anywhere around the franchise. So I think you are safe to unprotect either. That said Oturu is no major loss so I'm cool if you just want to be ultra conservative.

I don’t think Lee or Frank would be available since they were two way contracts last season. So basically you’re choosing between the bolded. I feel like the actual offer would be to pick one of Okafor, Joseph, or McGruder and get 42. I’d take okafor, cheap depth, and the pick.

Just following from the outside, as I don´t have the knowledge to do any other team besides Grizzlies. If I´m allowed to vote I would accept the offer.
