Are most of you guys born and raised Brooklyn or New Jersey natives?

If Brooklyn born? Congratulations on this run.

If NJ Born? I'm just wondering man. How could you still support this Franchise after being back stabbed, betrayed and down right disrespected by losing your team to NEW YORK?!?

I'm sorry but if my Knicks ever moved to NJ and became the Trenton Knicks and even switched up our Orange and Blue for Black? I'd hate them forever and turn my back on NBA basketball until the day I die. I'd hate them for that.

Even as an NY Jets fan we lost our roots of Queens for NJ but at least they still kept my heart by keeping New York within our team name (same uniform identify too).

I'm just confused on how any passionate and NJ Born natives could possibly identify and love the Brooklyn Nets of NY?

I remember my grandpa used to have season tickets for many of years @ Shea Stadium but after Jets left Queens for NJ? He never attended another game he even threw all my Hess trucks away and replaced them with Pepsi trucks. I just don't understand how NJ natives can still love a Brooklyn NY team?

I really don't think you understand New Jersey as a concept.

Everyone in North NJ roots for NYC teams. Everyone is south NJ roots for Philly teams.

North NJ is basically a suburb of NYC anyway. A ton of people living in northern NJ work in NYC and live in NJ. Go to the city a lot of the time.

North NJ is closer to NYC than most of New York state.

Not to mention the Jets and Giants already play in NJ. And people in NJ root for them and the Yankees or Mets already.

The idea that moving across the river is some type of betrayal is pretty stupid.

And honestly its probably easier getting to NYC than CAA for most NJ residents anyway. You can take a train right to Penn Station and the Subway will go right to Barclays.

There was no public transit to the Meadowlands and driving was a hassle.

Born in Bronx and lived in Manhattan most of my life, so I guess it doesn't really matter to me. When I was a kid I was always more of fan of the underdog teams. So the Mets and the Jets. When I started watching basketball Marbury was on the Nets. The Knicks were wildly popular as they have been and for whatever weird reason I also liked the Nets jerseys (looking back they ranged between ok and just plain ugly lol), but I decided I'd be a Nets fan from then on. Obviously the move didn't affect me all that much, but it was now a lot easier for me to get to the game via public transit and I've gone to a few games since the move.

I just hate how people act like there's no way the Nets could have "carried" over fans from the NJ days. And the old joke was that no one really liked the Nets because they played in NJ anyway.

I'm from Jersey but why would I stop supporting the Nets? I never saw it as anything personal against Jersey supporting Nets fans that they moved to Brooklyn. It was for the best. I'm not sure why I'm supposed to see that as betrayal or disrespect.

if that is your view of the situaiton, you have no idea what your talking about and/or know nothing of NJ, its geopgraphy, and demographic.

The nets moved 11 miles.

Eleven.

Central jersey is a wasteland. its farms and prisons and basically an extension of pennslyvania.

South jersey roots for philly teams. they didnt even get nets/devils games on television... which makes sense, since south jersey is much closer to the philly sports teams arenas then they were to brenden byrne/CAA/The rock.

North jersey is the NY tri-state area. If you live where the nets played in NJ, you are in the local NY area for all sports. your already a yankee/met and giant/jet fan. and a good chance your even a ranger/island fan over a devils fan.

No NJ fan cared they we moved to brooklyn.

Neither? I currently live in Australia and before that I was born and raised in Rochester New York. My first season following the NBA was the Nets first season in Brooklyn and it felt like it was a natural place to enter as a fan opposed to randomly following some other team.

As Prok said the Nets didn't really move that far. It's not like they left cross country or somewhere far. Most of NJ roots for NYC teams anyway.

For myself, I'm from Brooklyn. Started rooting for the Nets when Prokhorov took over and Jay-z was involved and the move to Brooklyn was official. I never liked the Knicks and low key rooted against them because I found the fanbase detestable(my dad and bro are Knix fans, so I see it up close) and Knix were just a badly run team.

I don't think the OP started in good conscience, so I'm not gonna add fuel to the discussion.

Born and raised Jets fan from Queens.

Even after our move to NJ we kept our roots. We're still called the New York Jets and we still rock our Green and White.

To each our own but I'm sorry, if the Knicks ever left NYC and became the Trenton Knicks? I'd finally turn my back on NBA basketball and would hate the NJ Knicks, forever.

He didn't. He chose to post this immediately following a playoff loss where the board was devastated having just lost Kyrie for significant time. He knew exactly what he was doing by posting this and he honestly should be banned from posting on here.

I was hurt by the move and I hated Stern because he basically helped facilitate the move. But with that said they’re still close and I’m still emotionally attached to the team. I’ve driven and taken the train to Barclays to watch them play.

True. True. I guess in sports you can take the team away from us but can't never take us away from our team (Jets fan here)

Just a question I've often wondered once teams change location.

Return to Brooklyn Nets
