Yes. I was counting them as teams Indy would compete with for 4th.

I actually think that there's a good chance 76ers regress next season

Embiid is always just one niggling injury away from missing half the season, and they could be missing key veteran role players like Danny Green and Dwight Howard and George Hill

Also, going off on a tangent, we see people talk about how their teams don't need to pay for an expensive 5 because a cheap veteran 5 like Tristan Thompson does the job just fine

Well, the same can be said for a 2 as well

Seth Curry has been great for the 76ers, and is probably one of the main reasons behind their surge this year

The best chance of getting a star is the draft not a trade. Well unless you already have a star and can't keep him. Mitchell made your list and he was drafted 13. PG wasn't drafted high. Granger fell to us and had he not got injured we were winning a big playoff series. Even Reggie wasn't a top 4 pick. Highest pick I remember was Smits and he wasn't the star you say we need.

Well, if we are going to have the benefit of hindsight, we may as well say Jokic was drafted in the 2nd round, therefore let's look for our future star there

While drafting with a good pick doesn't guarantee the team a star, the odds of success improve overwhelmingly the better the pick is

If no one wants to trade a top 5 pick for Myles, then I'd rather just keep Myles. I mean, if we redo Myles' draft, he'll go in the top 3 anyway, behind Booker and probably KAT, so it'll take a top 5 pick or a chance at drafting a star to pry Myles away from me

And it's not like keeping Myles is a problem anyway. He's great for the team, on and off the court. The only reason why we are talking about trading him is because he has trade value, so a Myles Turner trade has to do just that, bring back a trove of value

From what I’ve read, we’re talking about trading him (or Sabonis) because it’s still questionable just how well they fit together. We saw Oshae hop in pretty efficiently with no practice to playing with Sabonis. Would a faster, more switchable defense help make up for some of the pain of losing Myles, while possibly helping the offensive end quite a bit? It’s worth exploring.

As for draft pick value, very few guys in the league at all would net a top 5 pick in this draft. Everything is situational. Myles isn’t 19 and he’s not on a rookie contract. Very few teams drafting in the top 5 have interest in trading their draft pick for a win now piece like Myles. Just looking at it in a vacuum, there just isn’t really a natural meeting point there. And yes, we can run back Myles/Sabonis. We can run it all back for a 3rd straight year and just hope the coach alone makes it a competitive roster.

I don't understand the zeal behind the move towards breaking up the Myles and Domas duo though

To me, that's not the area on the roster that's a problem, the problem is in the back court

A starting backcourt of Brogdon and LeVert is, without mincing words, just plain bad on defense

And even on offense, there are issues as well. LeVert isn't an efficient scorer, and Brogdon doesn't create enough for his teammates

I feel it's actually more important to break up the LeVert-Brogdon combo than the Myles-Domas combo

I mean, I understand that neither Domas nor Myles will lack any suitors on the trade market, so it's much easier to break up the Myles-Domas combo and find a trade with good returns for one of them

But the focus needs to be solving the problem that's actually a problem, not solving another problem because it's the easier one to solve

I wouldnt be surprised if Turner was ready to move on behind closed doors. He wants to win a DPOY, and that probably isnt gonna happen here. A fair portion of the fanbase has always been down on him for not playing like Dale Davis. He knows he has been in trade rumors before. And we brought in a better player that might be better off playing his position.

Not being DPOY has nothing to do with where he plays. He didn't make the first or second all-defense team. That isn't on the team, that is on him. There is a lot more to defense than blocking shots.

How can he be all-anything when he is not even the best player at his position on his team?

I totally disagree. I like our backcourt and think our problem was depth at 4 compounded by playing a second unit player at the 3. I attribute the bad defense to Bjorkgren for reasons that have been oft discussed already. I keep Brogdon, LeVert, and Sumner, and try to resign TJ. I'd try to trade Aaron into someone's cap room\ if the draft gives us a guard. Justin, Lamb and Martin provide depth on the wing. We'll probably give Stanley another year on a 2-way hoping he turns his athletic ability into basketball ability.

Wendell Carter Jr and a 2023 1st round pick for Turner. WCJ make 6.9m this year, so that would save you 10m for the 21-22 season.

this trade would set us back in the short run. I think we'll only make trades that make it likely that we'd win more games this year.

You'd have more space to add a mid level player, and you'd get a 10m TPE.

Problem is, we’d want to add a Myles Turner like impact player, and we’d have to give up more than Carter and the future 1st, along with that TPE, you gave us for a good player (because you’re underpaying for Turner by quite a bit).

Realistically, you’d have to offer something around Okeke, or something that’s actually valuable, rather than an unwanted Carter and a future pick.

which is worthless unless we have a player we want to trade. we have two of them now and odds are they'll both expire unused.

we do need some tax overhead to resign our free agents, but we'll try to get it moving Lamb or AHoliday. if we can't do that, we'll have to let some free agents walk. we're not trading a starter to keep a reserve.

Even though DPOY is technically an individual award, it generally goes to the best defensive player on one of the best defensive teams in the league. Turner was on a team of meh defenders playing wonky schemes. Gasol was a good defender, but he doesn't sniff a DPOY without Tony Allen and the Grit and Grind culture and system.

I think Turner is gonna blossom even further somewhere else and drive the Pacers fanbase crazy, but it's time to move on imo. I love Sabonis and think he is a better player than Turner in the long run, but he isn't winning any awards for defense. That's not a knock on Turner's defense though.

missing games didn't help him. nor did the team missing the playoffs - which it might not have done had he been healthy.

Sure. But gotta give something useful/valuable up to get a player that’s REALLY useful and valuable. Carter/the future 1st aren’t that, unless we assume that Orlando is just gonna be a bottom feeding team for a couple more seasons and that’s going to be a top 3 pick.

Return to Indiana Pacers
