Re: The Playoffs Thread
If anyone was expecting Joel to play the Knute Rockne role even prior to this game, they haven’t been watching for the last half decade. That’s not who Joel is. He leads with his play, and that’s fine.
I mean, i just don’t see how you watch the game last night and not see that the fundamental problem is he couldn’t physically get any lift. Occam’s razor.

Embiid is doing something special. His greatness makes up so much for that one game night off of his.
We just have to find a way to compete when he’s not playing.
You have to ask yourself why a guy with a supposed ailing knee showed virtually no emotion toward his teammates in a game like last night's. Why wasn't he exhorting them to battle back against Atlanta's charge? His knee doesn't explain why he was a corpse emotionally speaking, both with his teammates and on the court in general.
I think Embiid is able to ratchet himself up emotionally for only so long, and then his "wick burns out" so to speak.
Most men have that problem. Of ratcheting themselves up or getting ratcheted up only to have the wick burn out. It's common and with a little rest he will be ok.
You want it to be one way....but it's the other way.

I don't see how anyone can watch the game last night and not see that the fundamental problem was that Embiid was emotionless. And that's in comparison to how even he has been previously in the series.
And that isn't explained by his knee or "lift."

There were just two days of rest prior to this game. This wasn't a back-to-back or anything.

Yeah well, if that's the case then there's an even bigger problem because it suggests maturity is the issue, and that won't be improved upon anytime soon.

Is this for the Oscar awards?
The guy just had a night off. I’d be more concerned if the continued to play this way.
I’d also be concerned if they dont have a gameplan the next time Embiid plays this way.
He’s singlehandedly giving us all time great performances and carrying the squad.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

What in god's name is going on in here? We lost to them in Atlanta with Embiid having his worst game of the season. We very well could lose to them in this series, but losing last night was not the death sentence.

Is the body language thing lame when John Collins powers down three put-back dunks in a quarter with a ton of emotion displayed and energizes his whole team and the arena and lays the foundation for a comeback win on the basis of it? That essentially won the game yesterday. Where was that energy -- or even some small percentage of it -- for the Sixers? Why did their best player exhibit the opposite of that?

Surely you don't think emotion displayed by players in team sports has only as much meaning as acting.

and before that he was moping and playing like ass.
its not that hard. Not everyone is KG who is always on 11. That has not been Embiid's MO ever. He gets into it as things begin to go well and when he is off; he looks out of it.
This level of psycho analysis is just a bit much for me as we have no clue what people are dealing with or how they work and there are more than one way to get things done.
Embiid played like hot ass last night...but this machismo "just do better like a real man" **** is off base IMO. Dude has been carrying the team all season and damn sure in this playoff run. He is owed an off night before people begin to question his character....i mean dude is out there on a bum knee, probably a **** up back and also simply had the worse shooting night in a long time. That probably wears on a guy so if he's not Mr. Rah Rah Rah....I don't blame him. If He guts it out and turns back up, thats great...but to expect it despite all of the factual evidence is silly. I think many of you take for granted the **** this guy has been doing despite his body failing him.
Again he played like **** and should be better on that front. Going into his mental state or how he should act is not it, chief

Addressing his mental state and how he should act is certainly apropos when he looks like a corpse in a pivotal playoff game.
There's a big difference between carrying the team and being an emotional leader and looking like a corpse. A player can have an off night and be somewhere in the middle. You don't have to look like you're high on cocaine to not be a corpse.

Or it possibly is that he's not a leader. I've seen lots of guys in street clothes injured on the bench exhort their teammates more than Embiid did last night.

Sir, I know what you’re talking but things are not that way anymore nowadays in the NBA.
These entitled multi millionaires can just call it a day in the middle of the game like LeBron. Yeah, they’re soft I get that too. But it is what it is.
It’s not like those days in the coliseum at Rome when the crowd decides to execute you or not whenever you lose the fight, depending if you fight with passion or not. Or those passionate players on International/Euro sport matches.
And I can’t totally say Embiid is not passionate about winning. He cried when we lose to the Raps right?

He cried when they lost to the Raptors, and in the very next game against that team in the same arena, he scored zero points in 32 minutes on 0 for 11 shooting.
What does that tell you about his character and how he assimilates what he experiences in the game?
You're just a guy on a message board and not a world-class athlete. Is that how you would respond in that scenario?

Re: The Playoffs Thread
i cannot believe we are having the "does Embiid want it badly enough" discussion after dudes first bad game of the playoffs...while he is out there with torn mcls and ****.
I swear some of yall just lay in wait until whatever agenda you are on has some new light and then pounce.
People are vastly different beasts and everyone approaches things differently. For some they are animated. Others are introverted. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. Kawhii is a **** robot who looks dead inside and yet is also a 2 time MVP. Whereas Westbrook is a **** dog who will eat your face off...and hasn't won ****. Just because a guy doesn't show firey emotion doesn't mean he isn't in it. Despite everything...Biid was competing on defense hard as **** last night IMO.
It simply was an off night on top of his body probably giving in on him again. That is the context. That is why he is a "zombie". Not that he is a weak bitch who is shook or whatever dumb **** you are on. Just like his 0-11 against the Raptors was the fact that they have the perfect gameplan for him on a team with worse spacing . There is more to it than just "oh he am bad leader".
I cannot believe we are really doing this right now after dude was doing historic **** not even a game ago. FFS this is why this town don't win **** lol.

Some truly awful takes from Ferry Avenue. Not exactly surprising from the owner of The Process has Failed thread from a couple years ago. Embiid playing on a bum knee because he wants to win when anyone else would've shut it down to protect themselves for their next contract. Somehow the guy literally putting his health on the line for his team isn't a leader. The **** people come up with.

Lol, this board has been littered with trade demands lately after a win, so I guess we shouldn’t be surprised what’s happening after a loss.
