FIVE Old Pistons FA contracts this summer - How much is everyone getting?
Here's 5 former Pistons... I'm wondering how much they are going to get paid this summer.
1. Andre Drummond - Failed in LAL to no surprise of Pistons or Cavs fans.
2. Reggie Jackson - Has been very good for LAC this year after signing a 1 year vet min deal with them last year.
3. Blake Griffen - Is he back with the Nets for vet minimum since he's getting $$$ from Detroit? Or back to LA or Miami?
4. Bruce Brown - Has been very good for the Nets with all the injuries, seems like he is getting an MLE type deal.
5. Derrick Rose - Was the best offensive player for the Knicks, and apparently the Lakers have interest.
BONUS. Spencer Dinwidde - Does he opt out of his last year to become a FA coming off an injury? I think so.

Drummond- one year prove it contract. Lakers or Hornets.
Jackson- stays with clippers on a 2 year contract, let’s say MLE.
Griffin- takes minimum to stay with Brooklyn. He’s getting paid by us, so there’s no reason to eat up much cap space for them.
Brown-2 or 3 years, MLE or close to it. He’ll be a miscast player for some team other than Brooklyn, as the new team calls it a culture building type move. Ummmm, Orlando.
Rose- 2 year contract from the Knicks or Lakers. Probably the MLE.

Honestly, as long as none of them come back I don’t care.
Bruce Brown seems like somebody might overpay- he’s young, plays hard, and is getting quality playoff minutes. He’s just not that talented. I don’t see the Nets keeping him though.
Reggie and Blake return to their teams on the cheap. If Blake cared about more money he would have held out for better buyout terms.
Rose will get an MLE type deal. My gut says he stays in New York. He seems comfortable there. The Lakers aren’t unthinkable I guess.
Dre? He’ll get a minimum deal from who the eff cares. All I know is it won’t be the Lakers, Cavs, or Pistons.

Re: FIVE Old Pistons FA contracts this summer - How much is everyone getting?
As much as I hated having Drummond his last couple years, I thought at least he would learn to play ball with Lebron better since Dwight Howard and McGee did it to such efficient degree. Then again, those guys were well past their primes and were thoroughly humbled before landing in Lakerland with the superstars. I think he needs some time to humble himself since the reality is, some dumb team will pay him some type of full MLE or maybe more and lock him up to a 3 year contract. You can always count on one dumb team to make a move like that even though he played like a minimum-level contract player in terms of raw impact year after year
What's more surprising is RJ's somewhat resurgence as their main PG. You can tell how much they actually need him to get some buckets and drain a timely 3. Since PatBev is washed up and they have no real PG capable of handling playoff minutes right now. I think he's MLE level at this point
Blake -- Vet min, likely ring chase the rest of his 30s
Rose -- MLE just because NY love him and Thibs always loves playing him no matter what
Bruce Brown is full MLE level in terms of impact but there will probably be some team that'll try to outbid Brooklyn. No idea what their cap situation is like

Think Reggie, Blake & Rose stay where they are. MLE for the guards, minimum for Blake (maybe Bi-Annual Exception if Brookkyn has that available)
Dre....? Is there a team out there dumb enough to offer him the MLE after what they've seen his entire career? Maybe lol
Brown is a interesting one cause the Nets can obviously use him and have his rights but will some team over value his play for them? Maybe!
We see winning role players get overpaid all the time - not all of them end up like Grant.

The moment any team pays RJ big $ is the moment he will knee them, get injured, miss a ton of games, and retire.

Gotta give RJ credit. He's playing pretty well right now. Knows and accepts that he's not the #1 guy. Or #2 or #3.

i still think a fair amount depends upon the playoffs. Reggie is so streaky, but he's find a niche an all-star team where he isn't needed every night. That said, Clippers may very well try to use some wiggle room to make some moves if their postseason ends early, and frankly, Jackson will be dispensable.
Someone will swing and miss on free agents and sell themselves on Dre for MLE. Not the Lakers though. Think mid tier teams like Charlotte or Portland.
I actually think Bruce Brown is fairly important to the Nets despite what he lacks. He gives too many things to that team they need with the Big Three, and while that may flame out this year, you know they'll be bringing it back next year. Someone might be willing to through some multi-year crap nobody else will want any part with though.
Blake and Rose essentially already choose their free agent destinations - they aren't going anywhere.

I would be shocked if any ever played for Detroit again.
Griffin, somehow less than 0% chance.
Drummond and Jackson would be lucky to play in a celebrity game as pistons.
Brown, maybe down the road. But it’s got tick him off in what he was really traded for. Before it got amended to be part of the saddiq trade. Weaver acted like he couldn’t get rid of him fast enough.
Rose, I don’t see the problem. I would welcome him back. But down the road, not really looking for him to be a starter.

I don't think anyone is suggesting any of these players should or would come back to the Pistons; just speculation on what they'll get paid.
I personally don't wonder or care.

Felt like I needed to kill the idea. I didn’t get the impression he thought it was plausible.

Without regard to specific amounts, here's the order from top to bottom of paydays I expect for these former Pistons:
1 Dinwiddie
2 Brown
3 Drummond
4 Rose
5 Jackson
6 Griffin
Brown would have value to many teams but is worth more to the Nets. Drummond is still overvalued by teams that haven't looked too closely, otherwise he's #5. Jackson played himself into something more than the minimum this spring.

I'd put Rose #6. Not based on merit, but based on the fact that he's shown in the past that he values stability over dollars. Likes to sign as early as possible & doesn't enjoy playing the free agency the game. And especially now, being back with his coach & having earned a solidified, prominent roll on the team, I'm quite sure he has 0 interest in leaving the Knicks and will be happy to give a 'minimum' discount on a 2 year deal.

I they they all stay where they except for Drummond.
Hard to see a team offer him much money after the last few years.

The Clippers have Early Bird on Jackson, the Nets have full Bird on Brown, the Knicks have Early Bird on Rose. None of them needs use the MLE, which would in any event be worth less than what those exceptions would permit each of those teams to offer.
The Pistons will owe Griffin less money next year if his salary increases, but he'd still come out ahead: he'd lose half the difference between his new salary and $1,445,697. That said, he'd be eating into whatever exceptions his team possesses and therefore reducing the quality of the roster they can field, and for not much (relatively speaking) financial gain. Besides, nobody is likely to pay him much.

Re: FIVE Old Pistons FA contracts this summer - How much is everyone getting?
Reggie's new role helped him. Dre's new role hurt him.
Reggie is much better as a third or fourth option. That's where he showed promise in OKC as well. In Detroit he was often pushed into the first or second option. He played a lot of good games and then totally screwed up in crunch time when he tried to take over. Hard to believe he's already 30.
Have to remember Drummond was the anchor of a playoff team at the age of 22. He is most comfortable as a phoney alpha. Of course, you'll never go far with him as a top option. But that's where he peaked. Also hard to believe he's only 27.

Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I really didn’t give much thought to actual numbers or the possibility/presence of bird rights and such. You wanted to point them out, so I just acknowledged that.
I basically only assigned the MLE rather than figure out actual $ amounts
