Also, how can anyone possibly think he's a guard? He played that role a lot because of injury more than anything.
Kinda funny he got more votes than Kyrie in Kyrie's primary position.
I'd be ropeable if I was Jayson.

Hey Bad for Jason's ego, good for his future playoff success, now he will take a smaller percentage of the cap and be able to have more help!

Tatum is the better player but Randle had an amazing regular season.
I think Randle is deserving, but Tatum should be in there ahead of Butler, PG13, Kyrie for sure.

Re: What is Jayson Tatum's ceiling?
the celts were probably the biggest underperforming team in the NBA last year. Tatum put up great offensive stats on a team so offensive the GM and Coach got canned/reassigned despite long track records of success. The TV ratings tanked because the team didn’t give a **** more often than not. Half the fans that were left were hate watching. It’s hard to tell whether Tatum has regressed to Carmelo Anthony status or was held back by covid / bad team chemistry / etc. He got a lot better towards the end of the year which gives me hope that he will be back on track next year.
I think if the celts weren’t such a train wreck he would have made 3rd team.

Being able to offer that 33% to Tatum would have been huge. To a market like Boston its almost essential. But hopefully he plays out of his mind next year.

Yep. Already JT's at risk of coming into camp with two broken arms for patting himself on the back for his excellent season this past year--selfish play be damned.
Let's hope this sobers him up a bit and he becomes a leader not necessarily in a rah-rah sense, but in how he plays with the other 4 guys on the court.
Good of course for the team's roster/cap management as well. He's maybe only not on the list because of the technicality of being listed at 2 positions, but for the sake of the C's team, that may have been a blessing in disguise.

All this is really making it seem like dude is on the verge of just a stupid great season next year. He made this leap without a real offseason, and while recovering from COVID lol. Playing in the olympics is only going to give him more confidence, and he will have a chip on his shoulder over the all nba thing.

Over his last 27 outings, including the playoffs, Tatum averaged 7.3 free throw attempts per game. If he can sustain that over a full season, he would rank near the top-10 in that category. Tatum also shot a career-best 50.2 percent from inside the arc, including 68.3 percent from inside of four feet, according to Cleaning the Glass. The latter mark put Tatum in the 78th percentile among players at his position, far better than the 30th percentile where he finished the previous season.

Just hope they have a real team around him and he's not gonna get gassed playing like 30 MPG during a time he could be getting training/development/rest.

If this actually happens he's top 5. One thing he doesn't do is flop and flail for contact. Trae will foul out in the first half of games. Harden in the first quarter.
Win it for Al!!!

All depends on the system and players around him. We've seen that with D.Booker.. Heck, he's being compared to Kobe now.
When JT was drafted I had him at Paul George, and he's surpassed that. I think he's definitely the lead man on a team that can win a title.

PG13's playing really really well this postseason.
All of us expect Jayson to become (if he not already is) a better player then George.
What I wanna say is we'll very likely get our championships if JT will play like an even better version of PG from this playoffs.

Re: What is Jayson Tatum's ceiling?
Someone mentioned Tatum as a guard. Look at Middleton. If Tatum moved to the 2 with a facilitating pg, a proper big man and two forwards, we'd be unstoppable. Tatum would be Booker plus 10. Would love Tatum at the 2 scoring 30+ every night!
That's the Way of the World

Re: What is Jayson Tatum's ceiling?
Does anyone know Tatum’s actually weight right now ? He’s still listed at 210 but he’s considerably wider than KD who’s listed at 240.

It’s pretty cool that the consensus #1 pick is the consensus #1 pick because he is the “next Jason Tatum”. I think that speaks volumes as to what GMs think about Tatum’s ceiling.

JT confusing Most Improved with All-NBA?
"Being left off the team cost Tatum a $33-million contract increase and the slight has been a source of anger and motivation. Tatum was incensed about not making All-NBA. “Yeah, I was mad about it and it had nothing to do with the money,” he said. “I just felt like I increased my assists, my points, my rebounds, I clearly had a better season this year than last season. With COVID and how it affected our team, I guess people held that against me. I clearly should have made one of those teams but it will happen, but just get better for next year. How could you watch my game and the season I had and think I wasn’t one of the best 15 players?” "
