Cuban always gave Carlisle terrible teams, he did a great job there considering the talent he had.

Well I mean...I'll just be the one to say it would be perceived as a tone deaf hire especially with Brad Stevens ascending to GM and not allowing any other minority candidates a shot. In a perfect world would I hire him? Sure. But given Kyrie and Boston's racial history its probably better to let him go somewhere else and for Boston to focus on repairing its image. If they hire him its going to tell the current team that Kyrie was right about Boston and Jaylen/Tatum will be pushed further. The only "white candidate" they could probably sell is that Jobber, Jay Larranaga and only because it seems like Tatum likes him.

If they interview a bunch of coaches and he's the best canidate hire him. Period.

Depends what Tatum and Brown want. If they want him then the Celtics could potentially get away with it. But aside from that this city and team can't take much more of a pounding than it has over the last month. It would be on the surface an absolute tone deaf hire. But we'll see. I'd love for them to hire him regardless but the media would crush Wyc for it. Not sure Brad has thick enough skin to get through it either.

I say get the best coach available which would be him Rick easily. That being said, I don’t know how likely it is.

Not sure he's the best coach for this team though. For this team you could make a case that Kara Lawson would be a better coach for the 2021-2022 Celtics than Carlisle. Doesn't mean he's not a top 10 coach but when you take into account outside factors such as Social Justice and the rising view of Boston as being unfriendly to certain ethnic groups its tough to justify bringing him in. They have a great opportunity to work towards rewriting the narrative of the city for this new generation. The Celtics were the first organization to have a black head coach and an all african american starting 5. But the new generation doesn't even know that. Its as relevant as winning the 1963 World Championship to them.

Umm in 2008 they had a black coach and black starting five. Not sure when this is an even an issue... Yes some fans are pricks but that’s virtually every fan base.

Even 2008 is so long ago. I don't necessarily disagree with what you're saying however given everything over the last month this needs to be a huge consideration and almost a mandate to save face with this franchise and city.

1) Is the Bucks job any better than the Mavericks job?

2) He's an older guy with a family. He might just want want take some time off, relax with the family...or maybe even retire for good.

He's the 4th oldest coach in the league.

Up until recently he was the 6th oldest, but Stotts and Van Gundy both just got fired. Seems like a trend of older guys getting the boot so teams can hire younger coaches who can better relate to / connect with these younger players..

Carlisle is one of the best coaches in the game. I hope Brad gives him a call. Dude has done pretty well with nearly every team he's been given.
Good assessment:

I guess I missed this. A half-hour interview with Brad just after he got bumped up to his new position:

I would sign Carlisle over any of the other candidates.

Carlisle's statement said he looks forward to the next chapter in his coaching career, I didn't see any indications he will take time off. I would hire him for sure. Best coach on the market.

Gotta make a run at Carlisle. He’s a top 3 coach in the game.

Damn Carlisle is my dream coach. His teams always play hard. Really like him.

I'd run it by Tatum and JB though. This is their choice more than anything else.

FWIW Felger this afternoon said his wife was told today by a staffer at a "high end sporting apparel store" that someone connected to a player says that Cassell is going to be the new head coach.

Good god, listening to people act like places like NO, Dallas (maybe due to Cuban and Doncic, one player mind you), Milwaukee, Atlanta being more desirable than the Boston Celtics. They've been to the ECF for 3 of the past 5 years. WTF is wrong with people?

I think Stein used to be good, but now he's just a lazy hack. And I'm not saying I even think Carlisle would be a good fit for the Celtics. Just an opinion I've had for a few years in general.

Return to Boston Celtics
