Incoming pod from bill Simmons about how Moses Brown is the next coming of Bill Russell lol (I mean, he can rebound very well, so who know what he'll turn into)King4Day wrote:
Honestly what shocks me most is the timing. You're allowed to trade players before the season is over? Perhaps this is just an agreed upon deal.

I stopped following Simmons or listening to him. I got tired of his schtick. But maybe I will have to check back in and see what he thinks of this trade. Walker is hurt a lot; they have Tatum and Brown as their stars. Makes sense I guess for them.

I think it's just agreed in principle. I don't think it can be executed until the league opens for business for 2021-22.

Just to change conversation topic a bit.
(I know, 1 game at a time, we still have to get to the finals.... I'm just asking about how we matchup against these teams IF we get to the finals)
How do the Suns matchup with the Bucks and Hawks?
I almost feel like the Bucks may be a better matchup as DA would help prevent a lot the inside work of Giannis.
Atlanta dissected us last time we played them but I don't know if that was a fluke.
DA on Capella. Bridges on Trae. But those shooters for them could be a problem. I think our length would be key against them.

Actually teams can trade once their season is over. You just don't see it very often. I was reading that this deal needed to be done before the start of the new league year to not trigger Kembas trade kicker.Barkley6 wrote:matt131 wrote:Incoming pod from bill Simmons about how Moses Brown is the next coming of Bill Russell lol (I mean, he can rebound very well, so who know what he'll turn into)King4Day wrote:

If Philly wins the title Horford should go to Boston management and say "my contract stipulates that if the Sixers win a title in 2020-2022 - my fourth year salary is guaranteed."
(granted it probably stipulates he needs to be a Sixers player at the time)

It would be funny if those maps were indicative by size of how big the ratings would be...and that it would be in order the best for the NBA to have these teams in the finals in this order:
Suns
Bucks
Jazz
Hawks
Clippers/76ers
Nets
Of course population wise the Nets and Clippers areas are far more dense, especially than the areas like the Jazz..and much of the Bucks, Suns and Hawks areas.

Yeah, but people thought Al Horford couldn't be moved (funny as I type that people thought the same with CP3) and he is still owed $53 million himself (yes, not his full 4th year is guaranteed, but most of it is $14.5 million...so to cut him for $14.5 million is a lot to pay for not playing).
Kemba is owed $73, but only half of that is guaranteed..or rather, the 2nd year is a player option.

Horford is actually closer to 41m since 14.5m is guaranteed in the final year - they had stipulations but I think they only applied to if he stayed in Philly
Kemba I think for sure pick ups that option. He is not turning down 37m with those knees.
I don't get this from the OKC point of view - taking on that much cost for a mid round 1st. Presti is collecting FRPs but at some point - you need to cash them in via a trade.

I'm sure Presti will try to rehab Kembas value this year then they will flip him next year for some other bad contract and a 1st. It's basically the ponzi scheme he's been running for a couple yearsBobbieL wrote:bwgood77 wrote:BobbieL wrote:

Yes, I just edited, but as I said in my edit, $14.5 million is a hefty chunk to pay a guy not to play. If he is still a solid player they might rather pay him the full $26.5 to play him...would they get someone better for $12 million or will that put them under the cap?
Yeah, I'm sure Kemba will. Of course when CP3 was traded to OKC no one would have ever thought he would eventually turn down his final year PO of $45 million but now people are talking as if he might.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. He sure is good at doing this...all while seemingly keeping the player semi happy waiting it out. I wonder where might be a decent landing spot for him. If Washington wants to save some money they could swap him for Westbrook...get him back to OKC. Westbrook makes like $8 million more next year and $10 million more the following year (over $91 million)...he basically makes around what CP3 makes next year.
It's still crazy that the Rockets traded Chris Paul, two first rounders and two pick swaps for Westbrook.

Presti certainly does a good job of asset management. Now eventually he's going to need to turn those into real players.bwgood77 wrote:WeekapaugGroove wrote:I'm sure Presti will try to rehab Kembas value this year then they will flip him next year for some other bad contract and a 1st. The tricky thing for him is he'll have the picks to trade for a disgruntled star but OKC is a place where some of those stars won't want to go.

Nooooooooooooo!!!!!!
The Athletic has learned through league sources that the Magic have asked permission to interview Phoenix Suns assistant coach Willie Green, Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach Charles Lee and Brooklyn Nets assistant coach Ime Udoka.
Green, 39, is completing his fifth season as an NBA assistant coach. A former NBA shooting guard, Green worked three seasons as an assistant coach/player development for the Golden State Warriors under Steve Kerr before he joined Monty Williams’ coaching staff in Phoenix in 2019.

I think he is in the long game. He will have an SGA max to surround with the best rookies he can draft and already may have some like Poku and Maledon...and good role players like Dort. Anyway, as you mentioned earlier he may be able to package some picks for Cade, but he may also love a guy like Mobley and save his assets. Cade may be a guy who brings in a bigger crowd and more likely to stay long term, but ultimately that fanbase shows up when the team is good (and probably anyway with no other major sports) and they were already competitive before going full tank mode. My guess is they aim to really compete for playoffs in 3 years when the LA teams and GS are getting too old when they can be up n coming when Phx and Denver are in their prime. Much of Utah's core will be getting older too outside of Mitchell. Gobert I guess will be 31 but Ingles and Conley will be 36 and Bojan 34.
