Celtics Believe Odds Of Re-Signing Evan Fournier Improved With Kemba Walker Trade

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jun 18, 2021 8:34 pm

The Boston Celtics believe their odds of re-signing Evan Fournier have improved following Friday's trade of Kemba Walker in a package for Al Horford.

The Celtics acquired Fournier from the Orlando Magic at the trade deadline.

Fournier averaged 13.0 points, 3.3 rebound and 3.1 assists in 16 games with the Celtics. Fournier contracted COVID-19 in April and continued to feel the effects of the virus even upon his return.

It’s important: 1) serviceable backup; 2) keeps salary on the books; 3) keeps JT and JB as the marquee attraction - if they sign a bigger name it would destroy the morale of the two studs.

The other problem with Kemba was he could be the #1 player on some nights and that keeps J’s from hitting their ceiling. Signing clear #3, #4, #5 players will keep the pecking order intact and JB happy. Unless they sign a clear all-nba first team player, which is impossible, better to develop what you have and hope for the best.

Fournier really is not that good on a team that is good and is a playoff team he gets buckets on orlando but in a system hes not that great hes just an avg player on a good teamyou actually never should wave traded for him.
