I think outside of OKC and Boston not many people understood the $14.5 million buyout in year 2. Its still a bad contract but at this point in time much better which is why the Celtics parted with a first round pick to swap out Kemba.
John Wall seems to be the worst right now. But as mentioned before Chris Paul was at the top of the list not long ago

If he bought out that’s 14.5m in dead cap though . Have to be a fantastic move for a team to take that much dead cap rather than just hold him as a 26m expiring which they can reflip.

If Gobert is in this poll the lack of Ben Simmons as an option confuses me. 170 million for a guy who has to sit on the bench in the 4th quarter?

It would have to be Wall. I feel like Zingo and Gobert are trap answers. Gobert fills a somewhat niche role in current basketball where he can't be effective 100% of the time on the floor. But it doesn't change the fact that he's still the best at what he can do. And I think Zingo's problem is Dallas. He should be traded to a bottom feeder so he can flourish and live up to that contract, at the very least statistically live up to it.

Jesus Christ, Rudy Gobert is owed more than TWO Porzingises.

It's obviously him.

Ask yourself this: have any of the other guys on this list helped their team win 1 game in the past 2 years? How about even 1 quarter? Because Klay hasn’t.

They’ve paid him $68m for nothing. Literally 0. There has never been a worse $/minutes played stretch in NBA history.

This of course could all change going forward but if we pro-rate his deal he’d have to provide $63m in value per season for the Warriors to break even.

They signed him knowing that he'd be out. The same thing happened with Durant in Brooklyn.

If Klay comes back, and is good, then it won't be a bad contract. If not then it will be, but it's too early to say right now.

They signed him after he tore his ACL in 2019. He tore his Achilles prior to this season. He’s played zero minutes over 2 full seasons on his new deal.

He’s paid like a top 10 player (8th highest actually). Even at peak health it’s debatable whether he’s worth that. Durant only missed 1 season and even at a max salary is still underpaid due to his production. Durant can likely make up the value BKN lost from him sitting the first year. It’s going to be near impossible for Klay to make up the $68m he’s already been paid. He’d have to play at an MVP level over the next three years.

I agree that he could come back and be good again but currently it’s the worst deal in NBA history.

Before this year it was John Wall, now with the struggles of Porzingas and Gobert it’s either of them. I’d say Gobert because Porzingas might be able to return to his old form if he plays somewhere else.

Objectively it's John Wall because he's probably the worst player out of this group and also making the most per year. Porzingis and Gobert aren't bad players, just overpaid.

KP contract hate is so stupid

He's literally being used completely differently in Dallas compared to how he was being used in NYK. He's still good for 20/10 as a BASELINE.

If KP didn't have to share the court with Doncic he'd be looked at in a much more favorable light but since Doncic is the biggest ball hog in the league and Dallas doesn't want him to be anything more than a spot up shooter he's overpaid.

Admittedly he's a solid 3 point shooter making 37% on 6 attempts a game, that's really solid. If KP was the primary option for a rebuilding team everyone would say "he's totally worth it" just like how no one says KAT is an overpay even though Minnesota doesn't win with him and he's always injured.

The real answer is Gobert, he's literally useless in the playoffs, useless for the future of the game. He can't guard the perimeter and he's the highest paid defensive weapon on the team. You need great perimeter defenders to build around him but guess what, these guys don't come cheap. Oh yeah and Gobert is pretty awful on the offensive side. That entire extension is looking like a potential disaster for Utah unless they can figure something out real quick otherwise they will always be exposed in the playoffs.

He's 10 times the player Porzingis.

I'm not sure about it being the worst deal in NBA history. Allan Houston and Gilbert Arenas's deals were pretty bad:

I guess we'll see what happens when Klay finally comes back.

Anyone know what kind of buyout Kemba took from OKC?

Is Kevin Love that anxious to leave Cleveland?

I see it as this. All the guys except Love is good for their teams and got decent production although overpayed. I mean, KP did 20/10 ladt seaso when coming back from surgery and makes 30. Maybe should make 25, at 20 25 teams jn the league would pay for the contract. And all other except love id good pkayers just payed a bit too much.

So question is if you overpay for the production of those players although longer deals, or pay klove 30m/year for just 2 years but have zero use from him sitting in the stands? Personally I rather pay a guy like KP 30m for 3 years since u actually get production during those years, then paying love same money for 2 and get nothing on the court.

Cant really talk about klay before he get back, it could be worse then love but impossible to say

It has to be KP.

He’s injured half the time, constantly sulks and is a big negative with his off court shenanigans.

It's very very obviously Gobert. Not only is his contact the biggest by far, but he also has the lowest likelihood of improving. Half these guys have had recent injuries and can improve a lot this coming season. But Gobert is who he is. The things he's good at, he's great at. But there's other things a modern C (at least a star one) needs to be able to do that he just can't do, at all. He's going to be the exact same player for the length of that awful contract and will never ever be worth it.

While the likes of KP, Klay and Kemba can prove themselves worthy of their contracts if they return to their best form, Gobert even at his best is never worth so much money in the modern league
