Re: Trade Thread 2021-22: To Trade Or Trade Not
What keeps me up at night is if Smart/Rob/Tristan/Nesmith gets us in convo for Beal. Helps us consolidate the roster. We would need to find a PG through another deal though.
But Pritchard/Beal/Brown/Tatum/Horford would be ok with me. With Fournier leading a revamped bench.

That's what Ainge would have done. I'm guessing that Stevens is interested in winning games, not hoarding assets for a big name.

Can win a title! No, yes?
I love Harrell’s defensive intensity, but the guy can’t shoot. We need a bunch of shooters plus a defensive center to win in this league. Harrell is a good bench player at this point.
I thought he was a better shooter. Can't see us winning a title with Tatum being the 2nd biggest player on the floor. I got to search more and find a bigger big that can shoot, defend and rebound, and play between Tatum and Moses.

Like the Bridges idea. He's a true 3. Bigger and stronger than Brown. That's a nice lineup. Would switch Moses though. That 11 pick could be in the draft. The USC PF from last year's draft is the type I'd like this year's draft. He'll only finally getting some burn. Like how you keep the healthy guys too. And flexibility as I really hope are real players at the deadline.

You can if you have a new coach and a recommitment to accountability. If you want to trade Smart, I could be talked into it depending on the guy coming in because I'm not the biggest Smart fan out there. However, If Smart knows he is the starting PG from the beginning, under a new coach and style, you will see a difference. Just the simple fact that we won't be facing a 5 on 4 on the defensive side, trying to cover for a 6'0 point guard will be a major improvement. Teams just flat out picked out whomever Walker was guarding and run a pick and roll and it made the rest of the defense have to start swarming, which always leads to a breakdown. You can't have a switch everything style with a 6'0 defensive liability at PG.
As far as Langford goes, you don't trade a young player that has played in so few games due to injury. He wouldn't bring much in a trade right now, so why give up on him? I agree 1000% on Parker, and I would maybe keep Kornet or Fall, not both, but only for insurance reasons for Williams and Horford, and I have never been a fan of G. Will's game, but he does shoot the 3 pretty good, and that is the only reason I would consider keeping him. Notice I said that I would trade him by the deadline if he didn't improve.
Langford is a bum. The only reason people are still high on him is because of where he was picked. Smart is a shoot first guard that relies on volume
I agree. I don’t like Langford’s offense. He plays slow for a guard and can’t shoot consistently if at all. His handles are average at best. Nesmith is way way better than Langford offensively, and defensively is probably better because he can be physical and strong.
Langfords a 3 though. He's needs to continue developing physically as he can be more physical than Nesmith and Brown. I agree he's not there now and he's a health risk. I'd choose Nesmith over him all day but they play differently for sure.

Basically Rob, Carsen, Jabari and Tristan for Miles Bridges and #11. I like Timelord a lot, but Bridges would be a great fit here. Love his game. Doubt Charlotte would do it, but Rob Williams would certainly be a nice add for them.
Who do you got for #11? Davion Mitchell, Jalen Johnson, Kai Jones, Giddey, Garuba -- there's going to be some good players at that spot. I hope Brad gets us back into the first round.

Smart is apparently a huge issue. Keeping him at this point would be acknowledging that the only problem this team has was Brad the coach. If you only get rid of Kemba but keep the same principles on this team then Brad is missing the point completely.
Not if it was Walker and Thompson.
I liked how Thompson competed.
Sadly when many weren't.
But I'd much rather have Smart than him.
Plus with Horford in the mix, trade TT for a someone that can shoot further from the basket and and also rebound and battle on the paint.

Josh played for my home team and I saw everyone of his games. I'm a little skeptical he will translate (i really hope he does) he is a great passer and playmaker but i'm worried about his handle being a little loose and his ability to stay in front of guys on the D end. He is a hard worker, and his shot improved a lot over the year though. He would be a good fit in that he does not need to score all the time and is happy to set people up. Think a less flashy, less athletic Simmons. He is a true point.

Re: Trade Thread 2021-22: To Trade Or Trade Not
I keep being accused of hating Marcus Smart.
Not true.
What I want is Banner 18.
I truly believe that if the Celts are to get Banner 18, Smart must not be a part of the Celts.
Marcus Smart is just too volatile.
Yes, Smart plays hard and gives it 110% effort every game.
But in the NBA that's not enough.
A player has to be accurate when making shots.
Smart is only a 37.6% shooter and 32% on 3-pointers for his career.
If Smart is one of the top 3 or 4 players on the Celts, opposing coaches will always gamble on leaving Smart open knowing that Smart will not hesitate to shoot every time.
Kemba was a defensive liability.
Smart is an offensive liability.
The low shooting % is bad enough, what's worse is Smart takes a lot of ill-advised shots.
How can the Celts win a championship if there's a loose cannon on the team?
It's not I hate Marcus Smart, it's about Marcus Smart not a good fit for this Celtics team.

From a talent standpoint, I would do that all day.
But Harrell is building a big rep as a player that doesn’t get along with a lot of his teammates. So I wouldn’t want him playing for us.
Clippers didn’t want him back after a he had a great year. Now I’m hearing the Lakers are cooling off on him and wouldn’t mind to move on from him. Sucks because he has a lot of talent.

I like that idea.
However, Charlotte won’t do that. Bridges just had a breakout season. They like him too much. But they need a center.
Also you don’t want to trade for Kuzma because you don’t want to be stuck with him if you can’t flip him. There is a reason he hasn’t improved much his his rookie year.

Re: Trade Thread 2021-22: To Trade Or Trade Not
I like Kuzma as a target. You know Lebron has a lot of GM say over in La La land and TT was one of his guys. They need front court help and say what you will about TT but you know exactly what you'll get out of the man, very little surprises good or bad.
TT/Parker for Kuzma and hope that Kyle regains value. The only thing that worries me is that he's in such a good spot in LA to shine as attention is paid to AD/LeBron that it makes me question if he's worth it. I don't want to sign up to a $13m deal that'll cost money to move if we're chasing a FA. I'd roll the dice though, he's what I tried to convince myself Jabari Parker could be for us.
Thad Young would be an interesting swap for TT as well. Him and Horford are solid facilitators out of the elbow and we are still missing guys to run the offense through to get things going for the team as a whole. We could still run with Smart/PP if there was more passing out of the rest of the team (Horford/Timelord/Young).
Sato as well could be a solid pick-up as a 3rd PG. Expiring guy probably not a ton of trade value, but decent on court value. I've seen DJ Augustin floated, but I'd much rather Sato.

Swapping TT for delon wright would be a nice deal. Wright is pretty redundant with haliburton and fox at the 1 out there

That's what Ainge would have done. I'm guessing that Stevens is interested in winning games, not hoarding assets for a big name.
The difference I hope in Brad is that he will try but will be quick to change gears if it isn’t there. I expect Rob and or Tristan will definitely be moved.

All excellent points and his concerns are legit. but his "pros" such as a pass first PG with very good size, pretty good shooting potential and his current age makes me think the gamble (always a gamble with drafting teens) is worth the concerns on defense, which I would think can be improvement with good NBA training.

This board wants to trade everyone. Tatum is the only one not constantly showing up in trade discussions.
