If a mod wants to merge this with Bigfoots thread, that'd be cool.

On the day the Phoenix Suns played their first Western Conference finals game in more than a decade, Suns general manager James Jones was honored as the league's Executive of the Year.

In a tight vote, which is conducted by the league's executives, Jones got nine first-place votes and had 65 total points, just edging out Utah Jazz vice president of basketball operations Dennis Lindsey, who also had nine first-place votes and finished with 61 points.

I don't get what Utah's GM did that garnered so many votes. That makes me think they believe Favors is the reason the team finished with the best record in the NBA

What the hell, who did they even sign? bizarre how all these awards seem to arbitrarily reward a good regular season record and then sometimes they don't.

I think the media just wanted the public to know who gave Gobert $200 million so they know who will be fired immediately

Well deserved. To take what McD left him with and build not just the roster but the culture reset in a matter of two seasons is simply amazing and if you had asked me to do that before I got the job, I would've told you that is wishful thinking. But he's done that, he's built a TEAM, a team that has great chemistry, has a strong culture, plays together and importantly, stays together when things get rough.

Monty should've taken the Laker job. CP3 should've found his way to another team close to being a contender. Crowder should've resigned with the team that could've won it all last season. But they all chose to come to play with in Phoenix because they saw the changes Jones brought. The maturity and championship culture/mindset has taken a massive step forward for these young Suns and it started with Jones.

I feel like Exec of the year should be something that gets awarded at the end of the post season. I don't think most awards should be regular season only but rather should include the postseason impact as well and the exec of the year award to me in right up there as a season-as-a-whole type of award. Likewise with Coach of the Year. I mean, where is Thibs now vs where is Monty?

I'm fine with the awards being for regular season. Post season comes with its own rewards.
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

the point is decisions made for the regular season also impact the playoffs. I don't really know how Utah will resolve the Gobert situation now, since $40mil a year for that in the playoffs is not going to be good.

Its such a hard situation. Value wise you have to pay Gobert market value yet, paying him the max may prove worse than letting him walk.

I think the way it works with extensions nowadays, you really have to be sure that the guys on your team are the guys you really want long-term.

Gobert has been really valuable, and if Conley was completely healthy the whole series they probably win that series. But even if they didn't, I thought the Clips were the best with Kawhi.

I don't think they need to overreact. He's overpaid but I don't know that they'd be better with another C or get the right value back or him.

I don't think you can build teams this way anymore, to be honest. You need a whole roster of guys with no major flaws to win these days. Everything from Giannis/Simmons FT% to injury-prone guys to limited skillsets is being exploited by opponents in the playoffs.
