Basketball coaching is the act of directing and strategizing the behavior of a basketball team or individual basketball player. Basketball coaching typically encompasses the improvement of individual and team offensive and defensive skills, as well as overall physical conditioning. Coaches also have the responsibility to improve their team by player development, strategy, and in-game management. Coaches also teach and inspire their team to be their best.

Coaching is usually performed by a single person, often with the help of one or more assistants.

So now that Philly is out can we officially interview Cassell as well?

Yeah it'll be interesting to see whether we hear about Cassell getting an interview sometime in the next couple of days now that Sixers are eliminated..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

I like him. I just don't view him as a winner like Billups or Cassell. Strikes me as too much like Brad.

None of them are winners until they win as a coach

Want nothing to do with Cassell. He has been an assistant for an absurd amount of time without getting a gig. Every time I watch Philly it appears his role is to just scream and complain, the amount of times his players are clearly tuning him out is through the roof.

Billups has some nasty **** attached to him from his time in Boston, don't see it

Yeah he says guys so more than 1. There's a lot of open head coaching positions. Udoka and D'Antoni are clearly 2 of the more qualified candidates out there..

I'm kinda late on the coaching situation. I know Brad stepped down. But as far as our candidates that I've read... Udoka, Billups, Cassell, Darvin Ham (who is that guy anyways?), what do you guys think about each one of them?? I don't follow much about the coaches, actually, this year I've been barely following anything.

As a fan it's basically impossible to project which assistant coaches will make good head coaches. No one has any shred of an idea what Darvin Ham does or what Ime Udoka does. You just have to trust the front office, which has orders of magnitude more inside information and personal contact with the candidates. Personally I like fresh new hires since they are more likely to have more synergy with the front office, and be on the same page—as opposed to some retread head coach who may be more unwilling to adapt his coaching style. But beyond that I can't say that Ime Udoka will make a good coach or not and nor can anyone here.

Feels like it's gonna be Udoka. Seeing a lot of puff pieces (not in a bad way) about him lately.

Looks like it’s between those two. Udoka intrigues me. He does have experience over chauncey, and i guess whoever we get, will probably have the blessings of our top players. So i’m fine with any of the two.

I wonder what happens with the assistants if someone like Udoka is hired? Any of them stay? Completely new staff?

Goodman is plugged in. Looks likely it'll be Udoka. I'll take it, already talked myself into him anyway

Usually the new coach will have free reign to choose his own staff.

Yeah, I know that is usually the case. I guess I was wondering out loud if the new coach would keep any of the assistants on or not or bring a completely new staff in. From memory Laranaga and Young both were assistants with the Celtics before Stevens was hired.

It seems the top candidate is Billups and the two most coveted teams are the Celtics and the Blazers. It has been reported that him and Hammon are the finalists in Portland process whereas for us it is Billups and Udoka. So..I guess if Chauncey wants to come here, the job is his. Otherwise it will be Udoka´s.

Whoever coaches in Portland, would be in a large amount of pressure to deliver. Dame has 4yrs remaining, but is near breaking point if they get bounced early again. I’d stay away from Portland.

Does anyone know if the team has interviewed Billups or Cassell yet?
