A lot of his upside is minimized in a slow boring euroleague setting where everything is halfcourt grind it out possessions, he’s basically reduced to a spot up corner shooter.

In the NBA, his ability to play with the ball in the open court with a much faster pace and more spacing is going to be a thrill to watch. There’s some impressive coordination and finishing ability with either hand. He’s fantastic on the short roll in the PNR, finding open shooters. He has smooth touch and the form on the jumper looks good. You simply cannot teach that effort/physicality and activity level in a big.

It seems like Wagner and Garuba are the easy picks for us as day 1 wing defenders that we try to grow offensively.
I love Garuba and people really dont understand how hard it is for a 19 y/o to get the type of minutes he is getting in that league.

He oozes Draymond Green. Elite defender and underrated passer/IQ. I'd snag him at 15 without blinking and know I got a guy that can play immediately defensively. He's got Bonga's instincts in Faried's body... He's one of the few picks that provides upside along with filling an immediate.

You’ve been all over this draft from the very beginning of the cycle. I’m gonna have to do some research on Sengun and Bouknight because of it.

Some team is going to find a real Nicolas Claxton-level steal late in the 1st with a stud rim protector. Isaiah Jackson, Usman Garuba, and Neemius Queta will all be there.

I also like Garuba. He was the target I was calling before the season started, when I thought we'd be drafting later in the 1st round, and defense was clearly our top priority. During the season when it was looking like we might be picking top 3 (remember that? :banghead: ) I kind of lost my focus on him. But since we ended up where we did, he definitely should be worth considering, although the acquisition of Gafford does lessen the need a bit....

I tell you, we have holes to fill, and I'm starting to think.... What about dealing Deni for a couple picks in this draft. I think he showed major talent and upside, but I just think he may not be a great fit for us. If there is a team that likes him and we can move him for 2 mid first rounders in the 12-20 range.

I'd absolutely love to come out of this draft with Kispert, Garuba, Butler. All 3 fill major needs, have developed mature games ready to step in right away to contribute, they are high motor, high IQ players... Kispert at the 3 with his shooting, Garuba off he bench 4/5 defensive stopper, Butler combo 3rd G.

Knicks, Rockets, and now Thunder are potential candidates. If any of them would be interested in Avdija for their 2 later 1st round picks.... Kispert, Garuba, Butler would be a nice haul out of this draft.

Depending on how the draft goes, Duarte, Wagner, Sengun, Jackson, Ayayi among others could be viable alternatives at those picks as well.

So no one thinks Sheppard will have the gall to take Prkacin... when the team needs defense and shooting to take a developmental player who doesn't project to do either... I wouldn't be surprised if there is a ton of anger on draft night.

A ton of anger and draft night seemingly often go together.

I love this board but draft night is not my favorite time to be here. We all come in expecting the org to fail, and have fixed personal ideas as to who we should draft. There’s such a high chance that pitchforks and torches come out. Although I’d substitute Dat2u’s board for our GMs over the years, the Wiz draft performance against the league has been middling not horrible. So long as they don’t trade the pick for a vet with a 1-2 yr window I’ll try and see their rationale and stay calm.
(Feel free to quote this if I’m ranting with mouth afoam after drafting a six foot point guard or unskilled Center)
Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.

Prelude to the draft - tonight is the draft lottery, and we have no balls!... ping pong balls, that is. That's probably not a good thing considering we were a 10th seed team, but... on the positive side, we got to be humiliated in a best o 7 series. Hmm. This actually should be the most entertaining lotto, because there's more equality in the odds of the lower lotto seeds. If GS somehow ends up with 2 top 4 picks, all heck will break loose.

Haha..no worries, GSW wont jump from 14 to top 4, and the Minny pick is top 4 protected.

That said, you bring up a good topic. What is the wildcard outcome/jump that you could see?

The Twolves pick jumping into the top 3 would be very interesting. I think they trade that pick as all 3 guards are probably poor fits with Anthony Edwards. I love Mobley next to KAT, but I could see them trying to make a bigger splash.

Another one is the Raptors. They need another guard and a big, so they are tailor made to jump from 7 into the top 4 and field a playoff team next year.

I think it's theoretically possible with GS - the Minny pick is top 3 protected, so GS gets it if it's 4th, and if they get ridiculously lucky with the 14th slot... going to top 3, they'd be set for maybe even past the Curry era.

#1 Cleveland
#2 Sacramento
#3 Orlando
#4 Toronto

And that leads us to taking Josh Giddey at 15.

Davion Mitchell is probably going to drop as a result of his measurements. 6 feet in socks, 6'4'' wingspan. Not great. Thoughts on if he's there at 15?

I would prefer Butler but if he drops to 15 and we can not trade down then I would be happy with him. Great defensive player and with a burst on O. Marcus Smart light. His FT shooting percentages scare me though.

Is that really much of a surprise - considering he was listed at 6'2, and listed heights are usually with shoes (though I think the NBA has been changing that the last couple of years), so he's probably right around 6'1.5 in shoes. I think he'll still be gone by the 12th pick because of the lack of PG's in this draft.
