That would be the reason Ujiri might bite on plus RJ being Canadian.
You think RJ has same upside as either Green or Suggs?
I don’t bit like I said RJ at the very least is a really good young role player right now. If you trade that for a guy who ends up being a bust you’re done as an executive. We don’t know how good any of these guys will be yet
My first post, fellas!! Happy to be here. I know, STFU and GTFO. I get it.
The opposite scenario is much worse in my opinion. You keep RJ, he doesn't become a star, and then the player you could have had (Suggs/Mobley/Green) becomes a superstar, you're not going to be very happy about that. The good thing for the FO is that if this was somehow a possibility (it isn't because none of the top 4 teams will move out from those slots), no one will know they were given the opportunity to trade RJ for said superstar.
If there is any chance at ALL that we could snag ANY player in the top 4, you gut your roster to get it. I'm not concerned with what anyone on this board says, they ALL project as future stars. Will they all live up to that expectation? I doubt it. History says that won't happen. But at this stage of evaluation, this is one of the best top 5 drafts in recent times. It has a chance to end up similar to the Lebron/Wade/Melo/Bosh draft. Feel free to say I'm exaggerating, but every expert out there agrees.
And this draft is stacked overall. I don't get the people on here trying to say it's slim pickins after 5. There are a solid 4-6 players who also have star potential, and starter level players all the way to the beginning of the second round. I'm confident saying this will go down as one of the best ever, top to bottom.
So, that leaves us with our Knicks holding two picks at 19 and 21. Do we keep both? Do we package picks together and move up? We're not getting into the top 5, so no reason to even speculate trades to get there. No combo of players/picks will get us there (that includes moving RJ or Randle). Those teams are not trading the possibility of drafting a franchise player. So that said, what should we do?
I don't think Tom Thibs will want to have two rookie first rounders, so my guess is they will package both picks. So how far will that get us? Maybe 10-15? If we do that, we better have a specific player in mind. Don't do it just to do it.
Ultimately I hope they keep both. This roster is simply lacking talent, so having the ability to land two players in a very strong draft is the way they should go, regardless of how Thibs feels. I really hope our front office doesn't take 'demands' from the coach to make one move or another. Thibs is the coach, and while feedback is welcomed, the FO makes the roster decisions.
For starters, keep both firsts and draft either Sharife or Ayo. We need several new potential PG's in play for next year. Hope to hit on one (Draft Pick/Vildoza/Free Agent). We can't sit on our hands and not take several shots at the PG position. It's too important.
With the other first rounder, I'd like to see Chris Duarte. I don't care about his age. We need talent and shooting, and he brings both and could also be an impact player from day 1. If we really do think we're a playoff team (I think we're more of an 8th/bubble team rather than a 4th seed at the moment), we'll want players who can step in and play valuable minutes from the get go. I'm also cool with the FO trying to hit a home run with one of the picks, and the players I'd go with in that scenario are: Greg Brown/Jaden Springer/Cameron Thomas.
Okay, I'll STFU and GTFO now. Thanks for listening.
