Sheets will return to Milwaukee to be examined

Houston - Brewers ace Ben Sheets will return to Milwaukee today to have an MRI on his injured left hamstring as well as be examined by team physician William Raasch.

Sheets is scheduled to rejoin the team Thursday night in Atlanta but his next start remains in jeopardy. His next scheduled turn would come Sunday in Atlanta.

Sheets left his start Tuesday night against Houston with what was believed to be cramping in his left hamstring. He said he felt the hamstring "grab" while warming up before the bottom of the second inning.

The hope was that it was merely a cramp and would subside, and that it was not a strain. But the fact that Sheets is returning to Milwaukee to be examined suggests it no longer is considered a cramp.

Sheets (12-5, 3.82) was making his fifth start since returning from a six-week stint on the DL with an injury to his middle finger. During his absence, the Brewers went 15-26 and fell out of first place in the NL Central.

Since Sheets' return on Aug. 29, the Brewers' record is 13-6.
