lilfishi22 wrote:As in give the guy a ball and create a shot for himself or for the team? Draymond has never been afraid to to score if the opportunity is there and in particular, down the stretch. Maybe some shots are better left for Steph, Klay or KD but he's not afraid to shoot the damn thing if he's open or if he's down on the block. I totally get that Simmons in Draymond's position with Klay, KD, Steph next to him would diminish need for offense from him compared with the Sixers where he really does need to do more than 5 FGA in the 4th quarter the entire playoffs. That said, if Draymond was in Simmon's position with the Sixers, I think it's a different story. The different is that I still think he's a drop off from what Dray gives you because he's exploitable unlike Draymond where given the wide open 3PT shot, he could hit a few and he's solid at the FT line. I do think putting shooters and spacing around Simmons is the best way to really show off his talent, in the same way surrounding Draymond did it for him.

On the point about Giannis, the reason why Giannis is in a different league than Simmons despite having similar weaknesses (limited range, iffy FT shooter) is because he's not afraid to put the team on his back and shoot a shot if he's open or force double teams down low when he gets down there or put himself in a position to get to the line even though he's shooting a hair over 50%. FWIW, Giannis did shoot something like 32% from range the past two playoffs so he's not completely leave-able out there. Simmons not shooting really is a massive exploitable weakness especially in playoffs. He's gotta change something

Draymond averages 8.8 points per game in his career and averaged 8 points on 49 TS% when he needed to contribute more without Curry and Klay last year. He can shoot, the opposing team is just usually happy to see it when he does. He's an excellent playmaker and has some really high points in his career, I just don't think he's much of a scorer.

I get where you're coming from with Giannis and don't disagree, but Giannis is also the undisputed leader of that team while Embiid is the man in Philly. Giannis shooting 32% from 3 doesn't mean much, it's much worse than any other shot he would normally take and teams will continue to leave him open out there until it's not a low efficiency for him. I guess I have a certain level of appreciation for Simmons being more of a pass-first player, but I agree that he can't shoot this poorly, especially from the line, and expect to win anything significant.

darealjuice wrote:Philly needed Simmons to be a superstar, but he's closer to Draymond Green than he is LeBron James. It's pretty obvious that they both need a change of scenery. Embiid was dominant with more shooting around him this year, I'd imagine they'll want to swap Simmons out for someone that can shoot and handle the ball more.

Simmons is so interesting because he's clearly very talented, but his work ethic must not be there considering he lazed his way through his year at LSU and hasn't added much to his game since coming into the league. His time has definitely run its course in Philly.

Happy for the Hawks. I've been a big fan of Trae Young, and they have the young talent to sustain winning for a bit. Nice to see a rebuild go well.

He's Aussie Artest. Can't even be Down Under Doug Christie or Kangaroo Covington because his shooting is that bad. He's artest for half your salary cap.

This Hawks team is legit. Not here by luck.

Trae Young is gonna be a superstar soon. He doesn’t need to play defense to be one, guys like Lillard don’t. I see his ceiling being a way better playmaking version of Lillard.

I remember when Trae Young was in college and Booker was a rookie or sophomore in the NBA, they used to hangout a bunch in the summer. I followed Booker on ig and him and his entourage would have Trae Young on a private jet going on vacations and stuff.

Trae Young just did one of the most disrespectful things I’ve ever seen in a super high stakes pro basketball game.

Wow.

And John Collins is Amare 2.0.

I'm in Charlotte. If that final does happen, I'll touch base. Let's connect and get to a game (or 2)

Just for S's and giggles, if the finals are Phoenix/Atlanta....
What matchup issues would we have or what advantages would we have?

We'll probably stick Bridges on Trae, but it'll be a team effort guarding him in the pick and roll. DA will have to do a good job of taking away his floater without getting caught in no man's land when we're not able to keep him in front. Collins can be a problem with his size and energy, but I think we'll be fine with Crowder and Craig.

You can't underestimate them. They can shoot the hell out of the ball and Capela has been a really good rim runner, screener, and rebounder for them. They have good depth with Lou Will and Gallo off the bench. Capela is one of the best rim protectors in the league and they do a good job of hiding Trae on the least impactful offensive player. They're not a great defensive team, and I don't think they have a lot of 1 on 1 defenders to contain Booker and CP3, but they've played good team defense.

Either matchup will be a handful in my opinion.

We will just get Trae on the switch and run PnR with Booker, Paul and whoever john collins is guarding.

MIL doesn't have the same guard play as us in the PnR even though Middleton and Holiday are very solid.

We would torch them IMO

Yeah, I agree with you and I think the Hawks are a great team with a superstar in Trae Young BUT they would be an easier matchup for us. The Bucks have so many two-way players and depth, with another superstar in Anteto.

Bridges on Trae
CP3 on Huerter or Bogdan
Booker on Huerter or Bogdan
Crowder on Collins
Ayton on Capella

Craig on Gallo
Payne on Lou

Would be a good matchup.

Atlanta are 36-15 since the coaching change which would have gotten them no.1 seed in the East.

They are a very dangerous matchup and smoked us in our last game.

I'd expect us to trap Young to avoid them playing the pick and roll game on their terms, he's too quick for Mikal.

To be honest, I fear the Hawks more than the Bucks. Last time they destroyed us and are damn good shooters. They have an offensive superstar in Young, a defensive center in Capella, and a young athletic big in Collins. The rest of the team are smart shooters and veterans. I don`t like this matchup at all. I am not saying that Milwaukee is an easier opponent...just don`t prefer Atlanta.

yeah same. I think we still havent figured out why the Hawks beat us so badly last time, and we basically chalked it up to playing them during a road trip. It wasn't even a back to back that time, Wednesday game and we played Cleveland that Monday.

Probably be a good idea for the assistants to start looking into this now.

I'd feel more wary about Atlanta, sure.

I'm almost certain MIL doesn't have the offense to hang with us for 6+ games.

ATL? Who knows.

good hire by the Pacers as I think he is a good solid coach

I have read that Jason Kidd is now the leader for the Mavs job. CArlisle pushing for him. As well as the rest of the Western Conference :D

Maybe Kidd will be a better coach with his next job but when the Suns job opened, especially when it was Igor and Gambo was the mouthpiece for Kidd as HC - that was the one guy I didn't want as head coach.
