Taller with a better standing reach than a 19-year-old Jarrett Allen. Shorter wingspan but doesn't matter as much with Kai's lateral mobility. Guess I was wrong about him looking small.
Same.
I wouldn't have been at all surprised if he measured in more like 6'8" instead of the 6'11" he did.
That laterally mobility he has and ability to guard multiple positions well away from the basket for a dude his size sure is attractive.
He's also currently only 9lbs lighter than someone like Bassey - which also surprised me.
I also thought Kai didn't look like he had that good length. Hes a tricky prospect because he hasn't played very long and its hard to tell if hes so raw because he just has bad instincts/feel or if he just needs more experience. Thats usually the case with guys like that unless its someone like Embiid who develops so rapidly that it was obvious he was a natural even though he was a bit raw coming out.
Not saying we should force a center, but I think its worth keeping an eye on the center prospects that could reasonably be BPA in our range because its such an obvious need for the team. So far it looks like Sengun, Isaiah Jackson, Kai, and JT Thor, are the guys that could be potential center options at 11.

Definitely intriguing. Seems like he has a Willy Caulie-Stein type athletic profile. He seems better at a younger age, so the hope is that he could be WCS with better feel/instincts, which should in theory be a Clint Capela level player.

even WCS is better than any center on our roster

You can't beat that name. If he's any good and has some personality he'd be a marketing sensation - 7 figure checks from Disney easily.
We also need a Jaden Springer thread, don't leave a Charlotte kid hanging.

Re: 2021 NBA Draft Thread
So after taking out the guys who definitely won't be there (Cunningham, Mobley, Suggs, Green, Kuminga, Barnes), I'm still not sure I see them targeting a big.
The team obviously has high hopes for Carey (rare, 4-year 2nd round contract) and Richards (trading a future pick to get back into the draft to take him), and I'm not sure any non-Mobley center immediately usurps them.
At 11, they'll likely have most or all of Şengün, Jones, Jackson, and Garuba to pick from; but I don't think they should take any of them over whoever is left from Keon, Mitchell, Wagner, Giddey, and Moody... maybe even Jalen Johnson and James Bouknight, too.
Still, it wouldn't be a crazy reach to take any of those bigs at 11, I just prefer to add a FA to our young stable.

None of the bigs on our roster are worth not drafting another big for.

If Sengun is there at 11 and we pass it will be tough to witness

Re: 2021 NBA Draft Thread
I think the team is still at a stage where we need to take BPA. Last year was fun but we're still at a major talent disadvantage compared to other rock-solid playoff rosters.
Definitely would not deviate from BPA on account of two 2nd round picks who JB had little to no interest in giving minutes.

Re: 2021 NBA Draft Thread
Of course not, but none of the bigs we're looking at at 11 are worth passing on more talented players that'll also be available (IMO).countryboi wrote:BlackOutBuzz wrote:So after taking out the guys who definitely won't be there (Cunningham, Mobley, Suggs, Green, Kuminga, Barnes), I'm still not sure I see them targeting a big.

We may need to replace Monk, Graham or both too. Drafting a wing makes sense.

I don't understand why the Cavs think this is a good idea.
What would you guys offer to move up for Mobley or Green?

Re: 2021 NBA Draft Thread
I would love to be able to grab Jalen. I doubt the Cavs would drop the pick for Hayward+11. Maybe if we offer to absorb loves contract, but idk.
Your Charlotte Hornets! We’ll eventually get something right;right?

I think my early favorites (in no order) are
Bouknight, Moses Moody, Cameron Thomas, and the Penguin dude from Turkey.

Most confident about Wagner and Moody. Jalen Johnson, Giddey, Sengun, Kai Jones, and Isaiah Jackson depending on workouts and medicals. Bouknight and Jaden Springer depending on how Mitch fares resigning Graham/Monk.

Re: 2021 NBA Draft Thread
I wish Kupchak could buy one of the Pistons second. They have already a bunch of prospect to develop, it should not cost a lot to get their 37. There are some decent prospects still in this range.
I doubt Kupchak could get something worth anything that late in the second round otherwise.
