Re: Thank you Troy Weaver.
I don't expect any of the Weaver haters to be throwing any mea culpas around in this thread. And they know who they are. Those folks accusing Weaver of being incompetent and worthy of being fired immediately.
Talk about looking like an idiot in hindsight. The idea that anyone, after seeing what Weaver has done in a year, would have ever said that he needs to be immediately dismissed is utterly ridiculous. Monster serving of crow right there. And this is why YOU'RE not NBA GM's, haters. They know more about what they're doing than you do.

Re: Thank you Troy Weaver.
This organization embraced the tank in a way I wasn't sure they would. It put us in better position, and they deserve credit for that.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

There’s a thread on the general board, like pistons post season questions or something. A poster by the name of “couchBostongm” or something like that puts some peoples anti Weaver agendas to shame.

I'd fire the G.M. who was responsible for the moronic draft. First of all, Hayes was a major reach and will definitely not be a franchise cornerstone leading guard. Know how I know? Because this same G.M. is about to draft that guy in Cade Cunningham and laughably try to play him and Hayes together even though neither can play off ball. Then he takes the high floor low ceiling Bey who for some reason people think is much better than he is. He's an okay 6th man type but there was much better still on the board. Taking Stewart, a 4, when he already had Sekou was more idiocy. I wouldn't let this dude cause more damage than he already has. He has to go.
I'd fire Casey who has been responsible for not playing the kids, specifically Sekou Doumbouya, while they were clearly supposed to be tanking. I can't think of a worse coach for young players than him.
,
Because of the bad drafting and handling of Blake, they did worse than I would have expected
Rising. They can't help but rise because they're about to add an all-NBA type talent
If I was in charge I'd:
Draft Green #1 overall. I'd fire Casey. I'd trade everyone except the recent draft picks and Grant. I'd even trade Sekou who deserves better, as an apology for the organization trying to ruin his career. I'd get picks and try hard vets who know their role and won't necessarily mind losing minutes to developing young players. The secondary goal would be to try and build up some trade value with them. At the deadline I'd trade Grant (not on the same timeline) and any of the vets that built up trade value for 1st rounders hopefully, probably needing to take expiring contracts back in the process. Armed with a likely high lottery pick, the most cap room in the NBA and a face of the franchise type talent in Green, I'd like my chances.

That is why I titled it the way I did so we can just have appreciation for what Weaver has done, without the silly crap.Manocad wrote:I don't expect any of the Weaver haters to be throwing any mea culpas around in this thread. It's mind-boggling to think that anyone would look at the Pistons' situation and think they're going in the wrong direction.

Nah it's fine. What I loathe about post's like his though, are the declarative statements, as if his opinion, is somehow fact. This is exactly what got under my skin with some of the folks here concerning Weaver, and what he was doing, or about Hayes.chrbal wrote:Sorry I felt the need to share that geniuses thoughts.
Making a proper assessment takes data. Data comes with time. It's like investing in Stocks/Crypto by using a dartboard, you just don't do it.
Could Hayes/Cade combo be terrible? Absolutely. Could that combo work out great? Absolutely. We'll all know how it works when/if the two start playing together.
In the end I pay no heed to the ramblings of an idiot.

Atlanta went from lottery with a worse record than Detroit and now is in the ECC game and could play for a title and or win a title. I think their GM did excellent as well.

Atlanta needs to be etched in people's minds as the prototypical way to do a rebuild so people can finally get over their obsession with Philly and how OKC did things OVER A DECADE AGO.SamFlow wrote:DCintheD wrote:2022 Executive of the Year

lmao, check out his post in this thread
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2095940&start=60
seeing his other posts he seems to think the coaching staff are a 'train wreck' primarily because of Sekou's time here which is honestly laughable and I guess the management is a 'train wreck' because they picked players he didn't like in last years draft.
If his opinions on Sekou's basketball ability are any indication, it might be a good thing he disagrees with the way Weaver drafts.

Just read that post. Didn’t Cade post something right after Detroit got number one?
It honestly comes off like he’s a fan of some other team in the top 4 and he thinks he can make enough negative posts about Detroit to steer Cade away from wanting to come here.

But as far as Weaver and honestly Stefanski. It’s impressive that Ed sold gores on this tear down. Regardless of whether we got number one or not, it was an impressive strategy to build with 4 key rookies and most of the mixture of players we landed.

Actually, the Wall Street Journal used to run a feature where people literally thru darts at a wall to pick stock and then compared that to professional and their picks. The darts usually won.

Re: Thank you Troy Weaver.
In just one season, Weaver:
1) Got rid of most of the deadweight. (Tractor version of Blake Griffin, especially)
2) Got great value out of his top FA signings (I was shocked Grant got that much money but he proved that he is worth every single penny). Pistons even got their money's worth in the Ellington signing.
3) Picked up underrated/underperforming players in Josh Jackson, Hamidou Diallo.
4) Had an amazing first draft picking up Killian Hayes, Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Stewart. That's 3 fantastic prospects in a draft class where most fans thought that almost everyone in the draft class was garbage.
5) Collected talent that almost always fights till the end in every game.
6) Tanked at the right time to help the team get the best odds possible in the upcoming draft - a draft class that everyone has been clamoring about for 2 years.
All these are top-notch achievements (for a team like the Pistons) and all of them in one season .....and, yet, there are posters that are still constantly whining on this and several other boards about "terrible/most awful GM in the history of the NBA" Troy Weaver. It's also obvious that all of this started with some their favorite/useless players getting traded away before the last draft.
At some point, though, you need to take a look all the work done in a very short time and just appreciate it.
Good job, Troy Weaver.

It’s cool to see what it’s like to have lottery luck and a seemingly competent gm
