Re: Head Coach
I have been thinking that someday an accountant tells the owner to gut the team and sell it to someone who wants to move it to Seattle. Or more immediately, tells her that she saves a lot of dough by letting Powell walk. If she is now excited about hiring a female coach, at least that would make her more emotionally invested in the team and more inclined to spend money. NO may see it that way.

There goes my choice.
There goes my choice.
Because love can burn like a cigarette.
And leave you left with nothing.
Leave you left with nothing.
And leave you left with nothing.
Leave you left with nothing.

Re: Head Coach
I really think it will be Billips for with Boston, Indiana and possibly Dallas settling on their coaches, their
only real competition for Billips will be the best HC job opening (Peiicans) with Woj suggesting the
same names the Pelicans considered last year. If Billips is the first choice of both Dame and NO, they
had not mess around for I'd hate to lose their first choice to the Magic or Wizards

I think billups is dame and olshey’s top choice while Hammon is allen’s. We will see who wins this one as it’ll be a pretty clear indication of whether allen plans on being hands off as an owner

Re: Head Coach
Quite possibly but perhaps Billips is simply waiting until the Clippers are finished in the playoffs
before he fully commits to being someone's head coach.
before he fully commits to being someone's head coach.

Well... if we're gonna throw out our guesses, I'm gonna say Portland ends up hiring D'Antoni.
There'll be plenty of (valid) arguments to be made that the Blazers just swapped one offensive HC for another... however, I can't deny I'm maybe a tinnnnyyy bit interested to see what Dame would do under Pringles. The dude has a good track record with knowing how to make his star player an MVP.

I think any moving of this team is a non-starter we have an extremely strong and loyal fanbase. The Sonics situation was also such a **** show that any NBA team trying to move since then have had extreme trouble. Even trying to move a team that has a sketchy home crowd and have sucked for over a decade like the Kings didn't end up moving.
Portland residents would probably hold a demonstration outside Moda if there were any inklings of the team being moved.
Again during non-Covid times this team was selling out most games, I don't see any future owner being upset with this team being located here.

Yeah, I think it's gonna end up being Billups or him. It could honestly go either way, I'm just throwing out my guess but definitely could be wrong. But of the 3 finalists, I think its one of those two (sorry Becky). Dame wants Billups and I would guess Olshey probably wants D'Antoni. I think Olshey will gamble with being able to sell D'Antoni to Dame to get him over the fact they didn't go with Billups. One reason Dame liked Kidd was that he was experienced... he was crappy which seemed to have flown over Dame (and Marc Cuban's head), but he did have previous coaching experience. I think Olshey is gonna play to that desire, and then try to sell Dame on what D'Antoni could do for his personal status as being a legit MVP contender next season in Mike's system.

Re: Head Coach
It would be such a snake move to blame the problems on Stotts defense and then go hire D'Antoni.
If I had to guess I would lean Billups at the moment. If it were the other two Portland would have likely moved already. But we will see

It's going to be Billips for if they wanted MD or Becky, there is no reason to be waiting. I just hope he brings
along an experienced bench coach (s) for he has only one year as an assistant coach to help him.

WOJ posted about 45 minutes ago that Chauncy is likely the hire. Seems like pure favoritism. I don't doubt for a minute his superior basketball IQ, but the game has changed a ton since his playing days, and he's only been an assistant coach for one year, on a team that has like 5 other quality assistant coaches. Not at all excited about this news.
I wanted Udoka, and feel we may miss out on the next Monte Williams, another guy I think we could of had a shot at many years ago. I have a feeling that it was going to be Chauncy all along, and no other candidate was ever really being considered.
I have always been fairly supportive of Olshey in the past, but this hire is questionable IMO. If Olshey screws up the coaching hire, it will not matter what players we get... he MUST hit on all bets he makes or it's his ass. I am now feeling far less confident is his abilities to perform the functions of GM, beyond maybe scouting pure talent. Maybe I'll be wrong and Billups will be "The Man", but I'm not stoked today. I think we get 2 more years of similar outcomes with Dame and Olshey, and probably CJ, then we will see the full wrecking ball.

If this costs olshey his job fine by me but seems like it could easily be a good scapegoat for olshey as others have pointed out since he can easily just say “not my fault he’s a rookie coach”
I don’t think billups’s style of play as a player has to mean he can’t adjust to modern times in the nba. Merely because he coached in an era doesn’t mean he doesn’t understand that times have changed.
I’d agree this hire is a gamble and personally i would’ve gone heavy after rick carlisle instead but it is what it is hopefully it works out

Re: Head Coach
It's not like he played 30 years ago for he retired in 2014 and played 17 years in the league. He's been
around the game first at ESPN and then the Clippers TV broadcast before joining the Clippers as
an assistant coach. He likely will be decent head coach much like Steve Nash, Jason Kidd, Steve Kerr.
