I still would prefer Mosley however I would not be upset with Kidd.

The exact words....

“It’s hard to put an exact finger on it. It’s just a feeling that I had that it would be mutually beneficial,” Carlisle said. “My hope is that Jason Kidd will be the next coach of the Mavs because he and Luka have so many things in common as players.

“I just think that it would be a great situation for Luka, and I think it would be an amazing situation for Jason. I’m the only person on the planet that’s coached both of those guys and that knows about all of their special qualities as basketball players. To me, that just would be a great marriage, but that’s just an opinion.”

Interesting use of the term "marriage" talking about Kidd and Luka... maybe he wants someone that can come in and give some abuse back to Luka since Carlisle probably just took a ton of abuse from Luka...

I kid... Kidd wouldn't be horrible as a coach/mentor for Luka, but I do think that he would have a hard time dealing with the obvious politcal chaos that occurs in Dallas because of Cuban's leadership style/involvement from the top. Kidd's track record when it comes to leadership politics is not exactly stellar.

Brad Townsend
@townbrad

I’m sure Jason Kidd appreciates Rick Carlisle’s endorsement, but the reality is that Kidd has at least 2 powerful allies WITHIN the Mavs’ organization. They are @swish41 and, yes, @mcuban
. All has been smoothed over since Kidd’s somewhat-messy departure as a player.

Kidd got that Carlisle endorsement. I'd imagine Dirk as someone who would vote for Kidd too.

Would Kidd mesh well with Vegas Bob?

Townsend is very connected so with him saying these things I bet their is some smoke here... I wonder if the Mavs can keep Mosley on board too.

I was pretty disappointed in Kidd's foray into his head coaching jobs, so I'm not sure how I feel about it.

However, several Lakers players have pointed to Kidd as really putting his stamp on their recent teams especially in regards to communication with the players.

Brooklyn's Steve Nash vs Dallas's Jason Kidd is an interesting thought.

Kidd has that gritty feel. Spilling the drink on court and those antics. I kinda like it.

If all else fails, Cuban can hire Rich Paul to be the GM too. No different from the Knicks signing Leon Rose.

Does Carlisle hope Kidd is Dallas HC because he would do a better job than Carlisle or because he would be a disaster and make Carlisle look good?

I am suspicious. Kidd and Carlisle butted heads because Kidd didn't want to be micro-managed. I can read that as he thought he knew best and would also think the knows better than Doncic. It could be he thinks PGs should have freedom, but thats no sure thing.

Seems odd for Mavs to be showing interest in other players with no GM on board.

The whole story seems odd. I mean who's interested? They don't even have a GM yet. The Nets try to call and there will be no one answering the phone from Donnie's office. The Mavs are dependent on the direction that the new GM would carve out. So for them to say the Mavs are interested, well who from the Mavs? Because the front office was empty last time we checked.

I think the Mavs already have their GM and coach they just haven’t announced it yet.

Kidd is reported to have been instrumental in creating a good communication system for players in the Lakers organization. My feeling is that communication will not be the problem for Kidd.

If anything, I think he may have bigger problems with Xs and Os with the team game. He failed pretty miserably in his first job, and the second could hardly be called a success. But people mature, and he's been good as an assistant with the Lakers.

By all accounts this feels like an internal hire. Finley + Mosley, it seems.

Maybe Kidd learned a thing or two with the Lakers. Lebron and AD is a very similar pairing to Luka and KP.

The pluses I see with Kidd are with free agent recruitment. He can add legitimacy to those offseason recruitment trips.

Here's a thought. Does Dallas own Bird Rights to JJ Reddick's contract?

Because JJ Reddick would like to go to Brooklyn but they are over the cap they cant sign anyone outright.
BKN has Dinwiddie who wants to go to LA but both LA teams are over the cap too.

How about the Mavs facilitate a trade so we can get something out of JJ Reddick apart from Youtube likes?

Dallas sends JJ Reddick to BKN.
BKN facilitates a Dinwiddie trade to the Lakers. Lakers get their PG to replace Shroeder.
The Lakers send KCP to Dallas.

Another 3&D option for Doncic. Plays defense and shoots threes at a 41% clip. So all that's left is re-sign THJ and give the leftover money to Richaun Holmes.

C- Porzingis / Powell
PF- Holmes / Kleber
SF- Caldwell-Pope / DFS
SG- THJ / Green
PG- Doncic / Brunson

Yes they have Bird rights. This deal would burn any possible cap space on a guy with 10.7 PER. And would Brooklyn think JJ has anything left to justify the luxury tax hit?

Lakers would probably have to add a pick going BKN's way to make it work. Redick should be insurance policy in case Joe Harris forgets how to shoot again in the playoffs.

Durant, Irving and Harden are all free agents in 2 seasons. So they have to at least win something before they all leave and join forces again somewhere.

Hiring within is what I hope is the case.
We have two assistants that deserve a chance before Jason Kidd is even considered.

Personally I would prefer Mosley over Kidd.
