are there not like a hundred people more experienced in this stuff?

Reportedly, he would work in tandem with Finley

Marc Eversley got hired into the FO from Nike because of his player relationships. Now he is a GM mainly because of that. AK does more of the basketball stuff and Marc is there because he has good relationships. This isn’t a crazy approach at all. Eversley though worked in a FO before becoming a GM, going straight to that job of President might be a learning curve. Finley has been working on that side so he has a better idea of what the job is.

President of basketball operations is not really the GM role although it can include aspects of the traditional “GM” as we know it

In most situations it focuses more on the actual operations side. Marketing, pricing, tickets, budgets, etc

In the Mavs case it looks like they may go with Finley for the player and coaching side of things, which means Cuban will have a heavy hand.

Vivek is a billionaire too. Who gives a sh*t.

These guys become rich on one big overpriced sale and then prove themselves complete morons when they actually have to run a company for years.

Broadcast.com was the swindle of the century. Billions of dollars for absolutely nothing all these years later. Dot com mania was the craziest bubble until.. whatever we want to call what we’re currently experiencing

Before I read your post I was thinking that I didn't know what a POBO actually does, thanks for that.
Sounds like a Sales & Ops VP in any Corporate. Understanding the product and the market is important, understanding what it takes to win basketball games, not so much. Harrison might be just the right guy for the job, he'll make the organisation some money.

Cuban sold an internet radio company that was losing millions of dollars a month to yahoo for 5.7 billion at the height of the dotcom bubble. He could be a complete genius for that move or he could be a below-average businessman who got extremely lucky once.

He sold it to yahoo who had said no to google. So I’ll go with luck
