The Mavericks are not pursuing established executives like Toronto’s Masai Ujiri or Danny Ainge, the former Boston president of basketball operations, to replace Nelson, according to a person with knowledge of the team’s intentions. Those executives would surely want more autonomy that Cuban is willing to cede. As I reported last week, Dallas is strongly considering elevating one of Nowitzki’s favorite former teammates — Michael Finley — to be the team’s head of basketball operations and would add to the group with an external hire even if Finley gets the job. Cuban needs to surround himself with as much versatility and experience as the Mavericks can muster, since he will always be the organization’s lead shot-caller and prefers to render the final say after consulting top aides.

Honestly the main thing that has bothered me about Cuban is that I think the league let him skate by on the sexual harassment stuff a bit too easy. It really felt to me like it just got swept under the rug. Cuban should have had to take a lot more responsibility for it going on for so long as the owner of the team.

Watch how "Luka is the main reason why the team sucks" narrative will start with the team's failures in the next few years instead of blaming the owner. Cuban is the reason why Dallas is a mess right now.

yeah he seems to be doing a great job so far

I mean being able to make a living off of betting is a pretty good way to prove you understand how good players are. We have no idea what advice Mark Cuban takes from that guy or not, and while he is wrong about somethings like anyone else I don't get what has to do with him being a "degenerate gambler".

Should being a basketball player be any better - considering how many awful GM's there has been?

Let's see, he's a multi billionaire owner of an NBA team whilst you're most likely sitting on a minimum wage salary. Im pretty sure when in comparison to you, he's amazingly brilliant.

Think I'd rather Cuban making basketball decisions over random RealGM armchair Quarterbacks.

Even owners get exposed on RGM. The forum shows no mercy.

I like Cuban personally. Seems like a stand up guy most of the time and became a self made billionaire. But his franchise changing moves lately and trades he signs off on have been awful lately. The hiring of Kidd is specifically a weird one IMO.

So your rebuttal is to compare Cuban to random Realgm poster? Good Defense. Why do Mavs fans get sensitive on the matter of Cuban? You're acting as if questioning the approach or vision of Cuban is sacrilegious. He deserves some criticism.

You're right, can't argue with that logic.

Just look at that billionaire who became President of the United States. What a freakin genius. Sorry, stable genius.

So, you want fries with that or nah?

And I would rather have a basketball guy making the decisions instead of the guy who is more interested in his celebrity than being a good NBA team owner.

Anyway, Luka will demand a trade within a few years. This is a dumpster fire of an organization and it will stay that way until Cuban is calling all the shots.

You do realize that Trumpy had his money handed down to him from his daddy right? Terrible comparison.

And yes, I want fries with that. Who doesn't?

Maybe. But flipside is you're working with Luka, who's looking like at least a Top 3 player in the next 10 years. Which coach/player does not want to play with type of player?

Of course he does. But to question his lack of "brilliance" in a sarcastic tone with all the man has accomplished is asinine especially coming from an individual that hasn't accomplished anywhere near the level of success.

Now to critique and say that Cuban has made some really bad basketball decisions is completely fair and warranted.
