No to Brett Brown.
And Im so happy that Kidd is out, hes really the one coach I wanted nothing to do with.
Now just say no to Scott Brooks

I would like Atkinson
I would also be fine with Atkinson, but happier still with Vanterpool. But it is easy to rate Hammon higher. To be her, she has nerves of steel. She understands what the grind of being a star is and all the stuff that goes around that. She is a good x-and-o coach. She really ticks every box. It is very common that the person that breaks a given glass-ceiling is elite in capacity. There are very, very clear reasons why Hammon will be the first female Head Coach, and those centre around excellence.
And not to trivialise this, she will sell tickets and help the Magic gain immediate media attention. PBO Weltman and GM Hammond are not going to pick a Head coach for financial reasons, but Alex Martins is their boss and he absolutely will drive this discussion around finances. In the end this looks moo, if she goes to the Blazers.
So: Atkinson or Vanterpool. Fine.

Kidd going to Dallas. Now i am fine with all candidates. My favourite scenario is D' Antoni plus young promising lead assistant who will take over after few years. Martin Schiller interests me the most. I would hope D'Antoni wants to prepare some nice place for his retirement.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

Becky Hammon may, or may not be good/great/ terrible coach.
She, much like half of candidates, never coached anybody.
But if she is bad coach, firing her in year or two will turn into PR nightmare.

Why?
I would project that if she goes 20-62 three years running, the media will be screaming for her to get canned. (and actually I would project the reverse; misogyny stating this "proves" Orlando should not have hired a woman in the first place).
But I go back to my statement about Hammon having nerves of steel. She is exactly the person that can cope with either outcome: success or failure.

There was backlash for firing black coaches despite it was clear they were prime candidates to get fired, and there was backlash from media about hiring Nash as white man without previous coaching experience for Nets.
Firing women over 1 or 2 poor seasons will produce outrage of mainstream media as they will call for " gender job equality".
I don't care all that much about our coaching search alltogether. Nba teams will achive as much as their best star can carry them. In orlando's case- go back in deep lottery next year ( and probably year later ) regardless of who takes them. I just don't want see some random SA Smith turning purple while yelling Orlando's name for first time since 2012 about Becky Hammon fire despite all indicators show she should be fired ( hypotetical scenario). I think whoever takes on ORlando is about to get fired in next 2years anyway. Simply not enough talent to carry team out of missery any time soon. And only reason why shelf life of coaching is 3,5 years is fact that guys like Popovich and Carlise were coaches for +12 years.

Re: Coaching search
Firstly who cares what Steven A Smith thinks? Second there have been plenty of black coaches fired with no media blacklash. Theres backlash when its deemed a unreasonable fire. Nate McMillan and Mark Jackson as examples. Maybe there was some for Llyod Pierce too but not a ton. But none of that matters. We need to hire the best fit. If Hammon is deemed the best fit then I support it 100%. I think its gonna be someone out of left feild though. Its gonna be a name none of us are talking aboutpepe1991 wrote:drsd wrote:pepe1991 wrote:Becky Hammon may, or may not be good/great/ terrible coach.

This is in the narrative that coaches can only hurt and rarely help a team. There is some truth in that.
For example: It's not like you or I would have difficulty in calling pick and roll plays, or telling our best scorer to take hero-ball late game shots. Should you or I be the next Magic coach. Umm; maybe not.

Re: Coaching search
Just hire someone weham. We aren’t going anywhere, anytime soon, and definitely not a job that’s highly regarded, nor has a track record of keeping its coaches around. Just hire whichever slub is out there and let’s get moving to next years lottery

We aren't going anywhere but WeHam will if they don't get this right.
Take your time Jeff.

I played ball and went to church with Nico for years up here in Portland. He's a great guy. He was Kobe's rep for Nike for a long time and that's how he got so connected. He will be a great hire

I knwo this sounds crazy, but i could see her pulling her name out of consideration for our job
As the first female coach, she has to know that she HAS to succeed early, and that wouldnt happen with us.
If she fails, it could easily set the womans coaching movement back like other have mentioned, we dont have the best track record as far as retaining head coaches, so she could easily have a short leash
NOW, thats based on literally nothing but my assumptions, so i could be way off, but id be surprised if it wasnt in the back of her mind

Based on her career I could see her taking this job and being ready for the grind. She has been dismissed and passed over her entire career. She has to believe in creating her own success.
Becky Bonner's role with the team could also make her more comfortable here. It shows the front office favors talent in any form for the betterment of the team.
