Gilbert's not wrong. If you are looking for game changers, franchise altering players (meaning a guy that can almost single handedly lift what is otherwise a crap team up all by himself) I'm not sure Jalen Suggs is that type of player. IMO he's the type of player that would look absolutely great playing in SA under Pops. But you throw him on one of these piss poor mismanaged teams that basically just goes out there and runs around in circles for most of the game? I don't think he'll look good enough to warrant exactly what Gilbert said. The other 3 guys? Yeah. They have the type of talent that can impact games by themselves.
So basically the best place for him in the top 4 would be the Raptors and maybe Houston
Possibly.
He's definitely not going to be the 1st or 2nd pick. The Pistons and the Rockets 2 of the least talented teams in the NBA. They need the one big time talent that they can hope to build around. That's not Suggs.
I honestly don't see any of the top 3 teams taking Suggs as the Cavs already have Garland and Sexton (and Okoro) in the backcourt and have a desperate need for a talented front court player (enter Mobley) to potentially pair with Jarrett Allen. A starting give of Allen, Mobley, Okoro, Sexton and Garland can make some noise.
I can see the draft going Cunningham 1st to the Pistons (Cade may not have as much upside but they can't afford to flub this pick and Cunningham IMO will at least be able to be a near all star at the absolute worst), Green 2nd to the Rockets and Mobley 3rd to the Cavs. I think if the Rockets take Mobley then the Cavs will take Green as his elite scoring acumen will allow them to be 100% comfortable trading Sexton and pairing Green with Garland in the backcourt.
That brings us up to the Raptors. Yeah I can see them taking Suggs. I don't see Lowry returning to the Raps so they will need someone that can step in the backcourt and give them that same sort of thing that Lowry brings. And Suggs should be able to step in and fill that type of role for the Raptors. Could the Raptors take someone else? I don't think so.
Ultimately I see the draft going mostly as expected. Cade will go first. Then Mobley and Green will go 2nd and 3rd in whatever order. Then Suggs 4th. Then Kuminga to the Magic to replace Aaron Gordon. The Thunder will take Scottie Barnes at 6. To me this is a 6 man draft with the group lead by the "big 3" followed by the "other 3".
Then that's where the fun starts...at 7...and the Warriors. From 7 down through the mid to late teens I think any number of guys can go in any order and will be a matter of what teams like and believes in, how workouts and interviews go, what the team needs are, etc.
