best SG in this draft?

Post#1 » by cedric76 » Sun Jun 27, 2021 8:02 pm

most agree that JALEN GREEN is the best SG in this draft

If we miss out on him who do you have as the 2nd best?

Tankathon has a nice comparison page

http://www.tankathon.com/players/compare?preset=top-sg

i would rank it this way MOSES MOODY > JAMES BOUKNIGHT > KEON JOHNSON

Moody killed it during the measurement, biggest hands, wingspan, reach etc...

Moody is also the youngest of the 4, almost 2 years younger than JB

He could be more than a 3+ D

His floor could be Danny green and his ceiling a better version of combo Khris Middleton/Victor Oladipo

i dont have Suggs as a SG, but otherwise i agree with your ranking.

and I have Bouknight 2nd because he can get his own shot and has a really good mid-range game. Moody is the better 3 pt shooter, but right now cant create much for himself

i would actually love to come out of the draft with Green/Bouknight AND Moody

If Jaylen Brown can play the two, no reason Kuminga couldn't.

Yeah if you guys wanna get technical, Cade and Suggs can also be called SGs right? They have the height, range and scoring prowess as well.

However, if you wanna run with mocks definition of SGs then : For now I have Green Bouknight Moody Keon in that order.

My answer to the question posed in the thread title: Green

My answer to the question posed in the first post of the thread: Moody. Staying loyal to him for now, although it is close and Bouknight is gaining momentum. I'm encourage by Moody's superior Ows/48, Ortg, FT rate, 3pt rate, ultimately. I've never been much of a workout-warrior fan; I prefer looking at game situations.

Let's just put it this way...

Pure vertical ability that's Keon

Elite first step and attacking the rim that's Green

Best 3 level scorer that's Bouknight

Best measurable and shooting that's Moody.

Moody is taller than them all by a whole whopping 1 inch. Keon can outjump all of them. Bouknight is the 2nd best to each of the best ability. Green though is best at what the league is looking for though.

I'm really supportive of an "all in" move to get Green. We got a bunch of picks and young guys - I would love this FO to make an aggressive offer to get the guy they want...even if it's SGA. If we can hold onto 8 but package 5 and the CHI and/or DEN pick, I'm in.

Tre Mann will be the best shooter of this draft, IMO. No other player comes close to his ability to get separation to get their shot off the way Mann does. He’s the best pull up shooter in the draft, and can shoot it from anywhere. Shades of Young in that regard, but in a bigger body. Not as much of a threat at the rim, but he can drop a floater from mid range like it doesn’t matter.

I think it was Hollinger who made a Wiggins comp to Green, as far as being more passive than he expected in the G League. I can’t stop thinking about that now.

I think Moody is a dark horse to follow Jaylen Brown’s development path. Bouknight could be LaVine/Bookerish if he can get smart with his shots and be more of a playmaker. Dosunmu could be a Jimmy Butler type guard. These are ceilings, not certainties.

So amongst those guys it becomes a matter of pick your favourite flavour of player, which is subjective.

But Tre Mann is the guy everyone will be asking “how did he slip so far?! Why didn’t we pick him?”

To be fair, Moodys physicalities is more about his length than height. He has an unblock-able jumper given how high up his arms are on release.

He has this the next-Danny-Green vibe to him I am super excited by.

p.s. my answers to this question is Cunningham. At least on the Magic, he is a pure SG.

I think Bouknight is mostly a PG but he can play either guard spot. But he's right there with Green and Moody.

Bouknight had better shooting numbers in his freshman year than sophomore.
Anyone know why he didn't get draft consideration last year?

SI actually had a quick blurb about this.

James Bouknight, UConn
Arguably the most intriguing, would-be eligible prospect not to declare for the 2020 draft, Bouknight made massive strides in the second half of UConn’s season and will walk into a brighter spotlight as a sophomore, as the Huskies exit the AAC and return to the Big East. In terms of long-term potential, Bouknight already had a case as a first-rounder, with a demonstrable level of maturity for a freshman and a high-end, natural level of smoothness and explosive athleticism. He remained under the radar for much of the season, but in a live setting, he’s hard to miss. Bouknight must continue to add strength and improve his shooting off the dribble, but has real breakout potential in year two as a multidimensional scoring guard who can play on and off the ball and contribute in a variety of situations. It’s unlikely he’s a secret much longer.

I don’t know why RookieStar keeps downplaying Moody’s measurements and only references his height, lol. Moody has great measurements, no way around it.

As far as OP- After Cade and Green I like Moody and Bouknight best. I expect Moody to go to Golden state at 7 - if they keep their pick - he fits that team like a glove. Which would leave Bouknight for us at 8, I would be happy with it.

I'm pretty sure that Keon Johnson will be the next natural 2 guard drafted after Green.

Lol its because before the combine it was said Moody is 6'6 and could be 6'7 in shoes so this is the guy you want, a SG/SF hybrid. Then it was such a let down to know he was barefoot 6'4.
