Do people really want to pay $36M a year for the next 3 years to a guy who can't play the end of games? And if he does play is afraid to shoot, even dunk, for fear of getting fouled? I wouldn't do it, but fortunately, IMO, I doubt Philly would do it for any package the Warriors would offer.

Trust me, I get it. But like I said, it's just too tempting not to give it a try when if affords the Warriors a lot of abilities to pivot should it not work out.

But if Philly plays hard to get, then that gets rid of our temptation. Just saying I know the FO would jump at the chance to get him.

To add on, if Wiseman is maligned here in GS and Ben Simmons is maligned in Philly, Im more than willing to take a shot at a former number 1 pick who is about to be 25, Two time all defensive team, all nba third team, nba steals leader in 2020. Thats all Im saying. Im more reluctant to trade Wiggins for him, and I think Wiseman will have a big future, but his handle and switch ability is top of the league. Add to that teams couldnt sag off him on pick and roll since Klay and Curry would eat that up on the curl. Id take a chance on that
Agreed.

Without giving up Draymond or Wiggins or the #7...

PHI gets: Wiseman, Oubre (S&T), Looney, Poole, #14
GS gets: Simmons, Paul Reed, #28

Philly could either keep Wiseman and let Embiid mentor him or flip him to another team. Yeah, I know we'd have 5 max contracts on the books and a very small team, but a lot of flexibility for different lineups. I mean really it all comes down to whether you think this franchise can rehabilitate Simmons or not. On one hand, it looks like it could be a real buy-low opportunity. On the other hand, there may be good reasons why it's a buy-low opportunity. Just like with buying stocks, houses, used cars, it's a gamble. But Lacob is a gambler and there aren't a ton of obvious options for acquiring high-level players out there right now.

Forgot about my boy Paul Reed…..dumbazz Philly could have and should have used that kid.

He’s a good all around defender. Not sure why they are slow playing him so much. He killed in the G league

I’m guessing the 76ers cap numbers would prevent them from doing a S&T for Oubre.

Could be. They do have Simmons $30M+ coming off in the trade but what we don't know is what Oubre would sign for. I'm guessing more than the ~$14M he's making now, but I don't think anyone is going to pay him much over $20M either (even that seems like a lot). And maybe contract could be structured ascending to allow it.

Coaches are super slow to play "unproven" young guys, and one or two mistakes and they often give up, particularly in the playoffs.

Some coaches……and it’s stupid when you go to thin in the Playoffs

Philly is pretty close to the line, but they could probably swing a S&T if they really wanted to, although they would hamstring themselves with a hard cap, which I doubt they would want to do. The trade above brings them back just $2M short of the $34.5M they send out. An-over-the-cap team could send them just $26.4M for Simmons, while an under-the-cap team could send whatever. Even if they liked the players, I think they would reject it on the finances.

I've never understood it either but the vast majority of coaches do it. Paralysis by analysis.

I wonder if Morey will play hardball more so given the years of torment from us busting the Rockets. I’d hope Myers and team wouldn’t give up the world for Simmons.

It's because of how close each team is in relation to the other. They feel they can't afford turnovers, mistakes etc in such a close matchup.. but their main players do it all game long .. and battle fatigue.. It's idiotic

I don’t think they would (at least I hope not). Simmons’ value has never been lower than right now and everyone knows it. They also know he must be moved. So there is zero reason to overpay. That being said, you have to offer them a little something. But if they want to play hardball, walking away is the appropriate thing to do because they’re the ones who should be feeling the pressure.

Word is Philly rejected Indiana's offer of Malcolm Brogdon and a first round pick (not sure if this year's #13 or future), so there's a hint as to where they are on the ask. Brogdon's a pretty good player, so to me that implies Wiggins + 14 would not get it done (leaving aside whether you want Simmons or not). However, Brogdon's salary is short of matching, so there must have been another player involved.

The 2 players that fit as salary filler are T.J. Warren or Jeremy Lamb. Likely Warren, he's flashed at times and Indiana probably felt they'd want a wing with some size.

Looks like Ben Simmons is officially on the market.
https://theathletic.com/2703448/2021/07/13/sixers-opening-up-ben-simmons-trade-talks-knicks-interested-in-collin-sexton-plus-more-nba-news/

Make no mistake: Interest across the league in Simmons remains robust. He’s turning just 25 this month, was an All-NBA team member in 2019-20, is a two-time All-Defensive first-team member and a Rookie of the Year award winner. Simmons is under contract through 2025, making him the type of superstar talent that rarely becomes available at an attainable price at this juncture of his career.

Simmons decided to skip the Tokyo Olympics this summer with the Australian national team to spend time on his individual game. For Simmons, this is the crossroads of his career. So far, there appears to be renewed determination within him about bettering his game, even if he could be playing elsewhere soon.

Just floating this idea so don't jump down my throat if you hate it....

Warriors out Wiggins/7/14 might have to add another FRP
Philly out Ben Simmons
Washington out Bradley Beal

Warriors in Ben Simmons
Philly in Bradley Beal
Washington in Wiggins/7/14 future FRP
