Perhaps my favorite (without respect to how it screwed my team) butterfly effect in the NBA is OKC nixing the Tyson Chandler trade due to his physical, the Mavs making a cheap trade for him after, the rest is history. It doesn't go down like that and the landscape of the league today would look very different.

OKC probably has 1 and likely more NBA titles if his foot got past the physical (foot issue right?). I mean talk about the perfect final piece and he was still in his mid 20's at the time that fell through so he had plenty of good years left with that core.

Big toe IIRC. Yes, I agree. And then I think everything that has happened involving Russ, Harden, and KD looks very different as well. And of course also Dallas. Which, when you put it together, is pretty much everything that has happened in the NBA since then to some extent.

Yea and perhaps Lebron has one more title as well

I'd argue that maybe he doesn't get the 1st one against OKC, but perhaps he does get the one the year prior. Obviously impossible to actually just replace some things everything would play out a little differently.

It is quite intriguing how all that played out as u said. Obviously as a Mavs fan, it gave us our one and only title, so glad for that. I still say though and firmly believe if not for Cuban, Dirk would have multiple rings and there would be given even more due respect as one of the greatest.

I dare every poster on this board to find at least one deal involving their favorite team that they can post something complementary about. And 5 deals total.

Your last Utah deal had impeccable spelling.

Sigh. I really think this board has gotten to a bad place with too much negativity and nitpicking--myself included mind you. But hey I'm happy if I'm alone in thinking that. Means I'm just in a bad place and not the board.

Just find this place far more enjoyable when every single thread isn't just I hate this.

Yea i would expect big trades to be contentious but i'm surprised how many are upset with your small tinkering trade threads too. thats why i might as well go big if i'm going to invite criticism 8-)

Oh its not my threads. In some ways those small trades are harder to get right because fanbases have different ideas about who to keep and who to target and the natural bump in value their own players get. So when I miss on a small deal there is no chance to salvage it with some other piece they like. I'm fine that people don't like those--I mean I'd rather they loved them obviously, but I get it and not mad---except for that first youngcrev attempt that once I fixed a tiny error in the OP I still think was quite good darnit. :D

It's just the whole thing, but that Kchile thread really just finally trigged me. He went to a lot of trouble and then people found some stupid little piece to tear apart and used justifications like Looney opting out of a contract he could never get again. Or wanted to engage in a partisan back and forth over a player the OP confirmed was not a central piece.

What does an Ainge hire add if Dennis Lindsey is going be around as an advisor and Zanik will be the new GM ?

Zanik is already the GM, but it sounds like he will now be the top person in terms of personnel decisions. re: what it adds, I don't know?

That’s even more of a head scratcher mention then . Not sure if I remember right but when ainge left Boston , Utah was mentioned as an option already so there was already rumours or it’s tired rehashing of the same news from back then.

I think that was a leak from Ainge trying to get a job (not necessarily w/Utah, but to make it appear as if he is in demand) because that fits his MO. From the sound of it, Quin and Lindsey did not have a great relationship and this was the new ownership (a) investing in Quin, and (b) Smith apparently has a good relationship w/Zanik, as well.

Inside look at what happened in Utah. Sounds like Lindsey alienated several people with the Doke pick: https://www.sltrib.com/sports/jazz/2021/06/28/story-behind-utah-jazzs/

I’d much rather bring in Shane Battier rather than Danny Ainge

wasn't really a problem in that thread, but what I see sparking a lot of pointless arguing and quibbling is people treating this like they're actually the GM negotiating with other GMs and making ridiculous offers, wanting to be negotiated down, but that ridiculous offer just triggers a tsunami of angry fans which then hate any deal that comes up subsequently

Anonymous, internet communication is always going to generate a much more negative and argumentative responses than people would have in real life. No risk of being punched in the nose.

And also a big disconnect between understanding what we (if we were the actual GM) would want to do versus what the actual GMs will do. Its a vague boundary that is never clear on which side any of us are on. I can't even say which of my own posts are strictly my view of what is a good choice versus my prediction of what my team would actually do.

But still, the fun part of posting and discussing trades is looking at the perspective of different fan bases. And even within a team's fan base there can be dramatic differences of opinion (ie Texas Chuck vs JD45 re KP). Maybe we learn something. Maybe we actually come up with a good trade. Maybe we predict trades that might happen. Or maybe we just have an outlet for pent up anger. Some people just like to argue. Its still fun as long as we don't let ourselves get too emotionally affected by what random, anonymous people post.

I think maybe this sucks so I don't want to make a thread, but if Chicago paid to dump Aminu elsewhere and sent White to SA for Murray how close is that? Working on some Bulls stuff. I know I'm lower on Murray than most so this may be a big value issue but Murray actually works with LaVine, right?

Woj reporting Looney opting in. Wouldn't have posted this, but we had a poster disputing this yesterday so confirming Looney still likes money.
