So pretty rough perception for me right now. Additionally I need to know if Scotty Pippen Jr and Moody were the guys locking him up in the games he had single digit scoring outputs.
Negrodamus,
It does not matter. Because if youve been watching the playoffs even the best players dont just attack defenders off the dribble on iso. They use screen play.
Even if Ben Simmons is defending Tre Mann. Tre Mann will call a screen and it will wipe Ben away.
Another thing is the calls are different in the NBA. The defender can’t stay close with the ball handler.
The ball handler just need really good shooting, advanced ball skills and IQ.
For instance, Luka. Luka isnt getting by Kawhi, PG or Ben on defense. Even Luka tries to dock away from Ben. And he attack those defenders by a screen play.
Once the defender is wiped away, he create a 4v5 situation where he will either pull up or maneuver towards the rim
Yeah, respectfully, I disagree. If you’re not able to do simple tasks in the parking lot of the DMV, you’re not ready to drive a car on the highway. There are benchmarks that prospects need to hit for me to be comfortable with them as the pick. Not saying Mann didn’t do it, but I reject that NBA concepts are applicable to a draft prospect. Different flow to the game.
This is especially true as it pertains to scoring. Beating NBA level defenders in college is, at minimum, a prerequisite to being a top scoring option for an NBA team. If you’re just cooking some 4-year 6’0 hustle guy that’s going to work as an insurance adjuster next year, it doesn’t matter if you “wipe away” Ben off a screen, you’re still not getting that 6’0 exploitable dude on the other side of the screen, ever.
Thybulle can lock down trae young if they’re playing in the NCAA. Rules matter. It’s the same reason why Lamelo Ball looked like a 2nd round player in Australia with a more physical level of defense.
All you need in the NBA is to have great shooting, IQ and advanced ball handling skills. I read on the other thread how Jalen Brunson was averaging 19ppg without Luka.
Defenders is not allowed to stay close to the ball handler. And they’re powerless if the ball handler is a great shooter, which Mann is.
Stay close, and you’ll get left behind because you can’t slow him down using your hand. And if you use your body, they’re gonna flop and you’ll be called for a foul.
If that’s your concern then you are not gonna draft Doncic if he’s in this year’s draft. Because the concerns with him is he is not as fast nor athletic as NBA perimeter defenders so he can’t go pass them.
Look what happened. If defenders sag off Luka, he will shoot over them. Stay close, he’ll drive. Just enough distance, he’ll make a step back and create space to shoot over you.
You dont even need that much advanced ball handling. Seth Curry was making some step back 3s for us in the playoffs.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.
