Pistons reportedly offered FVV $20 million per year before he signed his 4 year $85 million deal with Toronto. When Toronto beat that offer from Detroit they quickly turned to their second choice in FA, Jerami Grant. FVV and Grant were born just days apart, they both just turned 27 and most likely 2020 to 2023 will be their best "prime" years of their career as most players seam to peak between 26 and 30.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Weaver and Casey still both having interest in FVV. He also honestly pairs great with Cade he's a 6' SG or combo guard that ideally is going to be paired next to a taller PG for defensive purposes.
CoJo + Killian Hayes would match salary wise for FVV if they end up doing a full reset as rumored (GSW interesting in Siakam for Wiseman and a draft pick(s).
Raps could complete a real rebuild and go with a youth movement really quick.
#4 in this draft, Wiseman, Hayes, #7 for GS plus trade Lowry for whatever they can get for young talent and picks (likely from Philly perhaps?).

If van fleet is available, I might consider doing this. But if Toronto is picking 4 and 7, they probably go after their own pg in the draft.
Also, the Knicks were interested in Fred as well. They have the cap space to take him into it and have two 1sts in this draft. So the if the Raptors are going full rebuild the Knicks would start off with like 19, 21 and whatever else needed to get it done.

I would NOT trade Killian for FVV. No way, Killian is much better to have lol. I would trade Joseph and Hamidou at best. Toronto would be lucky to get off that contract.

'Corey Joseph' and 'push for the playoffs' are pretty much mutually exclusive terms.
What drugs are being taken in here that have people believing that Corey Joseph is 2X the player he actually is?
* Did you say Ellinson?

Both of them as backup would be fantastic. You don’t need better talent than Joseph to come off the bench. The question is who are we getting at PF.

Guy scored 20 PPG and is a good 3 point shooter. I agree I wouldn't give up any future firsts, but Killian + CoJo is all you need to make the deal work.
And you could be right, Killian might end up being much better being on his rookie deal for 3 more years. The kid is still just 19 and because of the injuries and no training camp year one you can almost look at this upcoming year as his rookie season.
That said, FVV is for sure a player that we offered a contract to last summer so we know Weaver likes him. He is the type of PG that could end up being a Billups/Lowry type late bloomer than ends up being a multi time all-star. The downside is he does have a little big more of Reggie Jackson hero ball than many of us might like, but I also could see him running well on pick and rolls here with Stewart.
Most likely Hayes isn't going anywhere, but the point of the post was that we have some more trade options that are possible for us if we do have CoJo's expiring $12 million contract.

Ok to use the idea of trading Joseph to get something. At best we’re looking at either guys like Rodney hood or taurean prince, where the team could actually use a veteran point guard (although I don’t think Toronto would want him). Or you’re looking at taking back two players (with possible assets, although not absolutely), at least one of which is a non expiring contract. With them not being great assets. You maybe hope New York wants him in exchange for a filler player like Knox, who we were rumored to be interested in during the rose trade. And that’s if they are willing to add payroll to get Joseph. We could possibly move him with assets going out, but that just seems unnecessary considering the fact that next season is a team option.
None of which are great options.
Or we just decline him and shed ten million dollars off the payroll. I don’t see how we ever pick up his option.
He stays and he’s a $12 million 1 of two options at backup point guard.
It’s declined and it’s $2.4 million on the books this season.
I don’t see how we pick up the option on, essentially, a grossly expensive 3rd point guard.

We haven't heard anything on this for a while. With August 1st falling on a weekend I'm assuming that Weaver will have to make a decision on CoJo's contract by 3PM tomorrow to submit that information to the league.

Taurean Prince dealt for Rubio. Ricky supposed to be some young guard whisperer - Cavs took on 6M extra in this deal, but got cash and a SRP, so probably come out probably pretty whole as SRPs worth 2-3M and probably got near that in cash as well.

The clock is running on Weaver's decision. I wonder if Casey's bending his ear.
With the ballhandlers in place he should get little time here to show any value before the trade deadline. I'd rather see Saben Lee get those minutes and let the youngsters keep growing. A wise vet can be gotten on the cheap to help them through the rough spots. This is another development season, not the time for an overpriced PG taking up valuable minutes.
Hoping it's a sign and trade that's already been worked out or they decline the option.
