I've got it. Haven't played enough to have a strong opinion yet. That said, the combat seems like it's a big step below other games of this type like Bayonetta or DMC.

Pretty sure I’m still utter trash at Total War, but I’m starting to get a better feel for Warhammer II. Got maybe 20hrs in, which is a pretty big number for me and most non-turn-based tactics strategy games. Bought some more DLC because I found out I can’t confederate DLC high elf lords without owning the DLC. Feels pretty good when you hold the line with spearmen to hammer and anvil the enemy with cavalry.

I love flanking in Total War with calvary, especially if you have a hidden perk or can hide in that series. Just destroys archers.

One hilarious thing I found I think in Fall of the Samurai was the battles with rivers where the enemy has to cross at a bridge. You can just tear through them with guns if they have to advance.

Did you ever play Fell Seal? It looks like it's available pretty much on every platform, but it's on sale on Steam right now and is Windows/Mac compatible. It wants to be FFT, and I was curious if you had played it. And if not, maybe you should :)

Reviews say the story and dialogue are poor, which obviously are strengths of FFT, but apparently the battles, classes, and abilities are strong. There's also a demo (not on Steam), which took me ~2h to complete, so a decent chunk of game.

If you guys have any of them good tactics games I always need to feed that addiction.

Side note, if you were Heroes of Might & Magic people, Songs of Conquest was quietly announced at E3 and looks great.

I could have sworn I picked that up at some point but it isn't in any of my libraries. Thanks, I'll check it out (again, I'm sure of it).

Heroes 3 was my jam. I was obsessed with that game...I should try and find it.

This week just about 100% of my gaming has been iOS Monopoly. I'm hooked.

I picked up Fell Seal on Steam - will let you guys know what I think. I played a little XCom the past day, and my takeaway was like 'yes I do want to play a tactical RPG right now...but not this one.' So we'll give it a go. Just $10.

About two weeks ago I re-downloaded XCOM 2 and played ~7 hrs and basically had the same reaction. It just seems like there’s not much else out there that reaches the same level as that game. Already played Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Mario+Rabbids: Kingdom Battle in the last few years. The Last Spell looked interesting, but might not be well tuned yet from early impression pieces.

Did anybody play Myth: The Fallen Lord's or Myth II: Soulblighter by Bungie online back in the day?

I didn’t play online to my memory, but definitely played Myth II as a kid. I feel like no one ever remembers or talks about it. Myth II’s style of gameplay really hasn’t been mimicked either — there’s no real spiritual successors. Wish someone would do are-release/remaster.

I always meant to check out XCom 2 and the standalone one (Chimera Squad, I think?), but I figured they'd both have the same issue I ultimately had with the original reboot - the non-mission content feels SO disconnected from the missions themselves. They obviously influence and dictate how your squad is equipped etc., but it feels like such a chore. It's like a poorly implemented board game. I know I'm in the minority.

Anyways, Fell Seal is great so far about 3h in. The classes are super interesting, I've been unlocking them quickly, there's synergy all over the place, and the battles have been lots of fun. The dialogue isn't top-notch, but it's also not as bad as some reviews made it sound IMO. And the story is forgettable to this point, but not bad enough to be a deterrent from the game.

Super into it. Plan to play all day.

Consider grabbing XCOM 2 while the Steam sale is going. It’s a pretty big step up on XCOM: Enemy Unknown — especially with War of the Chosen mixed in. It avoids the issue you had with it’s predecessor because the format is so different and thematic as a guerrilla resistance. I’d say that’s still the standard for turn-based tactics games and a real treat if you haven’t played it yet.

I'm enjoying the Scarlet Nexus gameplay, but the story is anime as hell and I really struggle to follow, at all.

I’d cut your losses and find something else. It’s not magically going to get less anime, it’s only going to get more anime.

I should add that I'm not disliking it or anything. The in-game journal helps. I think in the 2nd play through (playing as Kasane the first time around) I should have a much better grasp of everything. If the combat wasn't as fun as it is I'd put it away.

I'm playing a lot of different stuff. Nothing's really grabbed me to the point where I need to finish it in a weekend.

Scarlet Nexus is maybe my big one. I'm confused by the story and it's anime as hell, but the combat is a lot of fun.

Ender Lillies is a beautiful Metroidvania that I should be playing more of, got it on Switch.

Knockout Kings I played for a moment and liked it in bursts.

Octopath Traveler I got roughly halfway though, enjoyed it, but bailed. I'll come back.

The Surge 2 is great. I was heavy into this Dark Souls copycat but dropped it for no reason. When I last played it I kept going and going and going after a checkpoint to the point where doing it all over again seems daunting, even though it was probably 2 minutes. Will go back.

Wasteland 3 I'll go back for the DLC.

Forza 4 I enjoy playing for a night but I don't stick with racing games.

Returnal, bailed on.

Risk of Rain 2, want to play more.

Salt and Sanctuary, third time playing. Kind of a perfect game.

I'm about 8 hours into Fell Seal now, and I think the story is actually pretty decent. This game rocks so far overall. Seems like it's going to be a pretty big game, too. Great $10 spent and has gotten me out of a bit of a funk.

I’m still playing WoW Classic TBC and Warzone. My gaming life sucks as the child is sucking every chance I get to really sink into a game. I can pick up both the two I play and put down in 20 min if needed.

Really need some new Switch games to come out. Super disappointed in Mario Golf and even more disappointed knowing it won’t be below $45 any time soon.
