Right, that was in the first sentence of my post. He's not too old to coach clearly.

Because, his last job was a decade ago. He sucked then, and this isn't wine.

a lot easier to coach 30 games than 82...when you're 80

I'm surprised that Hubert Davis didn't bring him in to allow Brown to finish his career as a Tarheel. Would have been great to see him finish where he started

The coach I wanted to see and can tun circles around today's coaches is Rick Adelman, in this era of skilled bigs, he'll do wonders, KAT l, Jokic, BAM even KP and Plumlee would flourish under him.

He is an old style coach that is pretty hard on his players and players these days don't like that.

I think he clashed plenty of times with Iverson if I recall correctly.

Always thought he should make a comeback and said a while ago he would fit great on the Nuggets. One of their fans informed me his son is on the staff. He'd be great to come in and help get things started and then transition out to maybe a front office role where he can help scout guys to fit the system. I doubt he wants to be a full-time coach any more though

Why do you assume that Larry Brown is interested in being a head coach at age 80?

He'll be 81 when the season begins, smashing the record set by Gregg Popovich for oldest head coach in NBA history (71). His assistant coaches can be the corpses of Tex Winter and Red Auerbach, chilling on the bench in sunglasses during games, Weekend at Bernie's style.

Read up on Larry Brown's tenure with the Bobcats, or his time in Detroit or literally anywhere he has coached, to learn more about why no teams want to hire him.

He straight-up destroyed Charlotte's franchise for a solid five years. The Bobcats made the mistake of allowing Larry Brown to have too much say in Personnel decisions and it cost them dearly.

- he demanded the Bobcats trade for Diop. Who was on a ridiculous 70 million dollar contract with the Mavericks at the time.

- he demanded the Bobcats draft DJ Augustin over Brook Lopez with the 10th pick in the 2009 draft. The Bobcats were basically set to draft Lopez until Larry Brown threw a hissy fit.

- he demanded the Bobcats trade a first-round pick for Tyrus Thomas, and then demanded the Bobcats resign Tyrus Thomas to a large contract after the season.

- He demanded the Bobcats trade for Tyson Chandler and then he immediately burned his relationship with Chandler and barely played him because he was upset that Chandler was nursing a foot injury. The next year the Bobcats traded Chandler to the Mavericks where he anchored their title winning defense in 2012. Brown of course later was upset that the Bobcats traded Chandler for cap relief, even though Brown had to completely ruined the relationship with Chandler.

- in 2010 when the Bobcats were underperforming to start the season, Brown begin trashing the players, ownership and everyone in the organization after each loss. It was very obvious to everyone including the players that brown was intentionally tanking in an effort to get fired by the organization.

When the Bobcats finally got rid of Larry Brown in December of 2010, they were left with an aging roster, no confidence after being berated for the previous 24 months, salary cap hell, and owed first round draft picks. The end result was the Bobcats tearing down the team, trading away Gerald Wallace Stephen Jackson and others and bottoming out in 2012 as the 7 win dumpster fire that is arguably the worst team in NBA history.

He also never once took any amount of responsibility for getting thoroughly outcoached in the bobcats magic Playoff Series in 2010. There were obvious adjustments to be made in that series, but Larry Brown being the most stubborn man in basketball refused to alter his game plan, even after the Bobcats we're facing elimination and getting swept. Not suggesting the Bobcats could have beaten the Magic in that series, but they were definitely a better team than what showed up in that series and ultimately got swept.

Larry Brown is the second worst thing to ever happen to the Hornets, Bobcats franchise after former minority owner Ray Wooldridge, Who convinced then owner George Shinn to relocate the Hornets to New Orleans.

From what I remember he wears thin on players after a year or so.

Malone is doing just fine. Player development is stellar and the players love him.

Assistant in a college program is just where Brown needs to be. No shame in that.

Ignoring the obvious factor of age:

Larry Brown is smart and knows his Xs and Os. He's a strong disciplinarian. He's also a terrible people person and rigid to his core. One of the core tenets of strategy/coaching/war etc... is "You go to war with the army you have, not with the army you want." Brown, as mentioned above (and with numerous other examples), is extremely fickle. Its never his schemes/coaching that need adjustment, its his plays lack of skill/talent/hard work thats lacking. He's always underwhelmed by his players and their inherent ability to be as perfect and the plays he draws up. Its why he never meshed with young players/rookies and grew to dislike virtually every player on his team. He was always eyeing other players, who are always more perfect fits from a distance. It burns too many bridges when a coach/leader makes every player/executive feel substandard and unwanted, while everyone else is admired from afar. Its a recipe for a toxic culture. At least in college he can rotate the players enough and blame the youth AAU culture when his old school style doesn't magically transform Memphis into a dominate powerhouse.
