JJ's shot is rough but honestly I don't think Scottie Barnes' shooting form is any better. In fact I don't think either are any better shooters or scoring threats than Draymond and so I don't want to draft either.

Barnes' self created rim attacks are off the charts, which makes him more intriguing than JJ and more of a threat than Draymond. Shooting off the dribble seems like a lost cause though

I know they are very different players but Barnes looks eerily similar to Obi Toppin to me. Both are ~ 6'8-6'9, 220-225 with a 7'2 wingspan. Those same long legs relative to torso, very high waist. Barnes has bigger, more muscular legs which serve to make him a stronger defender more able to hold his position while Toppin is bouncier and more explosive.

Generally, I'm not that up on the extra leggy, long-striding basketball players. I prefer the guys that cover ground with short steps and nimble feet. The defensive IQ in the NBA is such that long-striders tend to commit a lot of charges and so Barnes abilities attacking the bucket might be minimized compared to college.

I think the concern with JJ is that he decided to play on three different high schools in 3 years, including changing HS midway through his senior year, before cutting time with Duke. Context is everything, and there may be valid reasons for each departure, but it does raise a red flag for some evaluators.

One other thing to note is Duke-alum Mike Dunleavy Jr. is Myer's right hand man now. He's probably watched a lot of Duke games and studied JJ extensively this past season. It will be interesting to see if MDJ's influence sways the Warriors to draft JJ or disregard him altogether as a pick -- not sure which way it goes tbh.

LeMelo has a similar past.

But yeah, that's why I've been saying drafting JJ comes down to the interview.

Which serves Barnes well on the defensive end but won't help make him a reliable offensive player at the next level. He scored 10ppg at Fl St. and he'll average even fewer in the NBA. He could develop into a Draymond-like player but that means surrounding him with quality shooters and scorers for him to be a starter. As has been suggested the whole time here, he's not a guy that could play big minutes alongside Dray which makes him a bad choice for the Warriors.

Attacking the rim at the college level doesn't necessarily translate to the NBA and when it does it's because of a quick first step and explosiveness. Barnes is a good ball handler for his size but he's not good enough to attack defenses out of the triple threat and his inability to pull up for jumpers means he's never going to be a NBA level scoring threat.

He's a high motor defender and a secondary ball handler with good court vision and that's what he's going to be in the NBA. That's a useful piece that every team should have one of but you generally can't start more than one of those guys and since we already have one, we shouldn't be drafting him.

Give me someone that has demonstrated at least a season of consistent outside shooting.

I like Mitchell, but the 6'1'' kinda gives me pause but he kinda reminds me of a smaller Marcus Smart.

I like Wagner, he can shoot and has some upside. Not as high on Barnes and those types of athletic tweeners in this draft mainly due to fit.

I like Moody, think he'll be a solid buddy hield type

Seems everyone is locking in on this guy. I like the wingspan and size he brings to the position but I'm at a lost as to how everyone seems to project him as a Klay Thompson/Buddy Hield type shooter. The college stats are good but don't seem to justify that. What am I missing ? Were the degree of difficulty on those shots pretty high or something ?

Klay is a far more dynamic scorer than Moody. Klay can efficiently knock down jumpers all over the court and can get his own shot in ways that aren't part of Moody's game.

Moody reminds me of Nic Batum in his younger days or Trevor Ariza.

I agree, I don't want anyone in that mold. We don't need a swiss army knife type player, we need scoring/shooting.

Is.

Tell me how Klay’s offense ran at WSU, and how Moody’s did at Arkansas

Tell me how Klay finished at the rim until he was 23, now Moody at 19

Tell me how Klay created separation from defenders and how good his shot was when pressured. Now Moody.

The difference is that Klay’s release is quicker and he played 2 extra years at college. Moody is better now than Klay was as a freshman, because Moody was actually a good defender. Everyone who dislikes Moody seems to really have a hard time remembering young Klay, it seems

I don't dislike Moody, I just don't think the comparison to Klay is apt. Klay is a top-5 shooter in NBA history at worst. It's probably not realistic to expect that out of Moody. Klay's shooting motion is maybe the most perfect ever. Moody's isn't anything like it.

Realistically, Moody figures to be a very useful 3&D player. His ceiling is a 3rd scoring option on a good team and his floor is a useful bench wing defender that can knock down open corner 3s. Someone like Batum or Ariza.

All valid points but, Klay and Buddy shot it as a much higher clip with way more volume. The way I see it, more volume = higher degree of difficulty. Not saying that he won’t be a good shooter, just that he’s not necessarily trending that way at the moment.

Yes, but the Warriors are not drafting a starter. Every lottery team should be taking the best player available for their scheme/team, even if the have a player playing that position already.

Players mostly ranked late 1st or 2nd that i'm a fan of (in order of how I currently rank them):

Trey Murphy
Bones Hyland
Scottie Lewis
Moses Wright
Duece McBride
Quentin Grimes
Charles Bassey

Anyone have someone that is their absolute sleeper that I should be checking out?

This is very simple from my point of view: you draft from a standpoint of pure talent, and later hope your organizational culture, along with the own player's maturity, will fix this over time.

Sure if you're getting an Allen Iverson or a D Cousins but those level talents are usually at the top of the draft - not the middle. Also they can goto a crappy team and get away w/ antics because the team doesn't want to piss off their star player.

Dubs stars have championship pedigree and classy as can be. Sure you can argue that maybe a talent like JJ can keep it together if under the wings of a Draymond.

But what if he can't? You can take the kid out of the hood but you can't take the hood out of the kid - isn't that the saying? What if his head is so big he thinks he can still do what he wants? Can the team afford that level of malcontent when trying to maintain a championship culture?

For all everyone says about Wiseman, he's clearly got good work ethic and doesn't blame others for his mistakes - That's.a coachable personality.

I seriously have my reservations about JJ

Thanks! I'm gonna check Roko and Watford out, don't think i've seen highlights or stats of either.

I like Christopher, Filip and Wieskamp too. They were right in the mix with the 2nd half of my list and seem to be going under the radar for some reason. I mean Filip as a soph was the Zags best player on a team with Tillie and Kispert....
