Re: General Blue Jays Thread, 2020
I know pitching is the biggest need and number 1 priority and the offense is fine the way it is but
if the Jays could get Nelson Cruz without giving up to much whether it's as a rental or if he decides
to play another year that would be pretty wild especially to block him from going to another AL
contender. I would have to get MLB the Show to play with our video game offense.

You doubled his salary. He was $17.5 for 2 seasons starting last year. $9.5 for the current season so probably about $5.5 million left. Probably gain about $1m on Panik for Climber so we add $4.5 for the rest of the season. Still yuck, but better.
The salary is probably the primary reason we had to take him but he replaces Tellez too with more defensive versatility

Masai is overrated.
I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

Actually it looks like Marlins covered a bunch of Dickerson salary, because I guess he's gonna be hurt for a while. I thinkthe net gain is we added 1 mill in salary.

Re: General Blue Jays Thread, 2020
Okay, so when do we legitimately start thinking of a Vladdy extension?
The example deals being Tatis and Acuna's deals... Definitely looking like the deal would need to be closer to Tatis than Acuna, though. Prepare for the biggest contract in team history. I'm not convinced that Vladdy rather not just have a couple strong seasons and get deeper into arbitration to inflate his pay day.

This offseason. Probably for both Vlad and Bo.

Re: General Blue Jays Thread, 2020
Both would be very expensive to extend, and I'd expect that we'd be more likely to get a deal than buys out a couple FA years (6 years, as an example) at full freight, rather than a 10-year deal that leaves them hitting FA in their early/mid 30s. Not because we wouldn't, but because they would probably both prefer to have maximum leverage when they do become free agents.
Setting Vlad's arb awards at about $70m, and the price to buy out two FA years at $60m, you'd get an extension of about 6 years/$130m. He'd hit FA at age 28.
Doing the same for Bo, who has one more pre-arb season remaining, you'd get maybe $45m to buy out his remaining four seasons of control, and $50m to buy out two years of FA. So, call it 6 years/$95m. He'd hit FA at 29.
I'd do both of those. There's no real discount, but you lock them in for a bit longer, and both players will reach free agency young enough to get a megadeal through the end of their careers.

Yeah, I'd do both of those, too. Good for the team and the players, and it should set us up for a 6-year window of contention. And who knows, maybe by then 10+ year mega deals for 30-year-olds will be a thing of the past - it's certainly trending that way - and we can re-sign them for lower term.

“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Jays have more all star starters than any other team?

Re: General Blue Jays Thread, 2020
Big fan of Teoscar, but it's a rough year for outfielders if he's making the all-star team as a starter. He's been good - 1.2 WAR, 125 wRC+. But that's not all-star worthy most years, IMO. Perhaps this is partially a reflection of his 2020 which was better.

I'd of course try it, but his contract and the fact that he's been in somewhat of a feud with this management group since they arrived would probably deter us.
