Not only are there 2 other teams looking for a HC, but now teams are starting to hire top assistants as well. Getting a good HC is nice, but you still need good assistants as well

So I started to do a little check at the Orlando Executive Airport to see if anything was coming in or out to California. Just so happens that a flight left this morning at 10:30 AM to Burbank, CA via JetLinx which is a Private plane. Burbank is about 20 minutes outside of LA.

Checked up on the previous flights and whadya know that same plane has been to Burbank, CA one other time back on June 19th early am. The Clippers played on the 18th and the 20th of June.

Atkinson is Clippers assistant coach. Clippers just got eliminated Wednesday. Orlando probably had 2nd interview with Unseld Jr Wednesday/Thursday and are flying out to meeting with Atkinson today.

Guess that’s where I’m a bit confused. Because wouldn’t that be public knowledge if any type of interview happened.You think they would allow one of their assistants to interview as their team was still in the playoffs?

this is some college-coach-new-hire-plane-tracking-investigation and i am all the way here for it!

I soooo want to believe this means traction with Kenny but I can't get there. LA is home to so many people in the NBA world during the off season. Could easily be another candidate that happens to be out there. Fingers are crossed it's Kenny.

Just because other interviews get leaked, doesn't mean ALL interviews become public knowledge. Especially with the tight lips of our FO.

you leak what you want to leak and do it to cover tracks of other things. The Penny reports and "lead candidate" then his statement almost seems like the perfect " Look over here" type of move while they quietly do business in the background.

Here's my take on the Penny Hardaway thing...

Weltman and Hammond had no intention of interviewing him and only did so as a favor, either to Penny/his agent or to Martins/the DeVos family.

But then once he interviewed, they were clearly very impressed and also surprised at his interest level in the job.

At no point though do I think the Magic ever considered him the favorite or their dream choice.

I think from the jump they have wanted someone with NBA coaching experience, either as a head coach or assistant or both.

Not saying you're wrong, but just looking at their resumes, how could you tell the difference really?

They are both in their 40s. They both played college basketball. They both broke into the NBA in 2005 as player development assistants. They both got promoted to on the bench assistants. And most recently they were both "defensive coordinators" for playoff teams that had great offenses and not as great defenses.

They're completely interchangeable to me
