Three Mills, the Rattler, yeah that was an interesting era. People sometimes forget how good Hill was.bstein14 wrote:Not sure why, but I am kind of hoping Cade takes #33. Would be interesting to see another young superstar in Detroit with #33.
I was 11 years old when we drafted Grant Hill it was those teal years that I really feel in love with basketball and playing the Pistons. I had the teal #33 jersey, went to my first Pistons games, drank the Sprite, wore the Filas. There is strangely a bit of nostalgia for that era even though we weren't very good. Grant, Hunter, Terry Mills, Ratliff.

There are a lot of millenials- it's a very big generation. That's why 90s nostalgia is such a big thing. I have a lot of nostalgia for it too, even though the era after it was far more successful- I guess it was just a comforting time in my childhood and I remember everything from that time period fondly.
I remember 96-97 the best - Grant Hill was a top 3 player that year. Basically him surrounded with shooting was enough to win 54 games- and we were even better than that before the All-Star Break. We were so good before the break that old-man Dumars was picked as an all star injury replacement. It was a team weirdly ahead of it's time- though admittedly helped by the moved up 3 point line. If we'd kept Allan Houston the offseason before we might have been even better- might have even been able to build upon that core- you never know.
I doubt Cade will take 33, but that would be cool.
I do think that number should be retired, but I understand why it hasn't happened.

That number will never be retired here unless Cade takes it, and becomes a star.Snakebites wrote:bstein14 wrote:Not sure why, but I am kind of hoping Cade takes #33. Would be interesting to see another young superstar in Detroit with #33.

Yeah, I dunno, I guess my grudge level subsides after a decade or so. If yours doesn't, that's fine.

Re: New Jersey’s for 21-22 season
For me, if we are going to keep the colour scheme I would like to return to the horse head logo for sure. My very earliest memories of watching the pistons was the 05 finals. To my 7-8 year old self the logo was a big deal lol.
But yes there is a big nostalgia proponent for me, not so much for the teal but the logo it’s associated with. I’m not a fan at all of the last 2 logos we have used, I really want to move away from the circle/basketball shape

I can understand wanting to move away from the basketball logo as its very generic. It's common. The one I would love to see is a return to the fort Wayne Zolner Pistons logo. The Moose wrote:For me, if we are going to keep the colour scheme I would like to return to the horse head logo for sure. Seems like the perfect time to bring it back for the new generation.

Re: New Jersey’s for 21-22 season
I wouldn't mind teal as an alternate home/away variant since it's something new that the league isn't really experimenting much with. It's a classic unique color in general too, which I wholly appreciate.
One thing we definitely need to do is update the logo though, a generic, dollar store basketball is basically what we use as the logo now. Either don't even use a logo anymore (opting for just a "PISTONS" font) or update it with something a little more unique and modern. Right now it's neither modern or unique especially the color choices being used.
It's a perfect time for anything new too, since it's the first time in eons we got a 1st pick and someone to spend it on in Cade

No idea- I didn't know the guy personally.
Posters come and go, I suppose.

I actually really like the current logo - it's a perfect mashup of the Bad Boys and Goin' To Work era logos, IMO. One of the few branding/design things the Pistons got right during the 2010s. Besides being a basketball (and having a basketball in the primary logo is or at least was an NBA requirement at one point), the Bad Boys era logo was also intended to be an overhead view of a piston firing in a cylinder.

Yeah, I like the current logo too although it's basically just the '79-'96 logo with a font change.
I really don't have a lot of passion about what the jerseys or the logo look look like in the grand scheme; if the team is entertaining I'll still watch the games even if the players are all wearing checkered aprons. There really are only two things that bug me--particular colors (NOT a teal fan) and stripes in the wrong location/orientation. I did NOT like the dual racing stripes down the middle jerseys. Looks great on a '69 Camaro but a jersey? Not so much IMO.
