2021-22 BaF Preseason Power Rankings

TEAM----------------- (HIGHEST RANKING/LOWEST RANKING)

1. Cleveland Cavaliers (1/3)
What other GM's are saying about Cleveland:

"Defending Champs for a reason. Pretty ridiculously stacked team. 7 of their top 8 guys are on the last year of their contracts, so this is pretty much the last ride for them, and they're still the team to beat."

"Still the team to beat until beaten, but this year will be more difficult for the current champs."

"Could this team be even stronger this year? Very possible"

2. Dallas Mavericks (1/5)
What other GM's are saying about Dallas:

"On paper what's not to love about this team? MVP candiates, excellent role players and defenders. I think Lowry should be able to take this team to that next level that keeps eluding them."

"They have both Giannis and Jokic. What more do I need to say? Even if they didn't have pretty decent role players. Only reason they're not #1 is, Cavs are better from 3-10"

"Dallas upgraded their defense with new acquisitions like Kyle Lowry and Marcus Smart. By having 4 strong defenders next to Jokic, they will be very hard to beat."

3. Portland Trailblazers (1/11)
What other GM's are saying about Portland:

"After getting swept in the finals, they went back to the lab. Out comes another impressive starting five, but you have to wonder if the changes are enough to catch up to the Cavs?"

"Will be scoring a lot of points, don't know if their defense will be able to keep up."

"At this point, anything less than a championship is failure. The pressure is heavy for this team to win it all and they’ve put together their best yet."

4. Golden State Warriors (1/13)
What other GM's are saying about Golden State:

"Embiid/Lillard is a scary 1-2. Harris provides a great 3rd banana. Depth may be an issue but I will never question NE to pull the right strings to get where he needs to go."

"A big 3 of Dame, Embiid and Tobias Harris is one of the best trios in the league."

"After seeing the duo of Lillard/Embiid fail out East, the Warriors believe that with better depth they can prove it works. After Harris the depth gets a little dicey, they are banking on role players excelling."

5. New Orleans Pelicans (3/12)
What other GM's are saying about New Orleans:

"Still can't be counted out with the big 3 of Trae/AD/Middelton. I think a couple teams in the West have jumped them but they will still be a tough out in the playoffs."

"Pretty stacked, a clear contender. Good stars, great depth. I just personally don't think they're as stacked 1-10 as the Cavs, or have the clear top end talent of the Mavs."

"Pelicans had a sneaky good off season by acquiring Khris Middleton, Donte Divencenzo and Huerter."

6. Los Angeles Clippers (2/13)
What other GM's are saying about the Clippers:

"Another team with an impressive starting five, though the depth could prove to be an issue if an injury happens to a starter. They are banking on their defense being one of if not the best in league."

"I love what Cap has built Gobert manning the middle with 3 capable shot creators in SGA/PG13/Conley. Also has strong supporting cast of scrappy/tough role players."

"Is there a better defensive team in the game? They’ve solidified a playoff spot with this strategy imo, but I still feel they may fall short in being able to outscore their opponent when it counts. Would love to see this GM take an aggressive approach to winning this season."

7. Charlotte Hornets (3/14)
What other GM's are saying about Charlotte:

"A lot of star power but how will they blend and defend"

"With how Morant and Edwards are playing this year, the Hornets are closing the talent gap in the East. Wild card for this team will be how Wall plays in the sim because he can be the ultimate sixth man for them."

"One of my favorite up and coming teams. Ja/Ant/Ingram/JJJ are a great young foundation. Capela is a beast on the boards. It wouldn't surprise me to see them in the EC Finals this year but might not see the Ja and Ant jumps until next year unfortunately."

8. Chicago Bulls (2/17)
What other GM's are saying about Chicago:

"Pretty much running it back with Swiss team, the Bulls are going to have to find a few tweaks here because we've seen how this story has played out for the Leonard led team."

"Well balanced team with star power - still an East Beast"

"Kawhi, CJ, FVV, Melo off the bench is a really fun team. Should be interesting to see how the SIM views them."

9. San Antonio Spurs (5/18)
What other GM's are saying about San Antonio:

"Steph's great, and there's a ton of upside, but the rest need a little more seasoning"

"Good job culling out from the slough of draft picks they've had. This up and coming team could also make some noise this season"

"Curry would request a trade if this were real life. Spurs have brought him to a rebuild situation. What’s the identity here?"

10. Brooklyn Nets (4/20)
What other GM's are saying about Brooklyn:

"They're a bit under the radar but Kyrie, Sabonis, Grant, Clarkson, Brunson can upset some teams."

"Broke up a strong core to put together a decent team but not quite a contender"

"Another team that will be able to score a lot of points and should have some interesting small ball lineups. Sabonis at the 5 has pros and cons. But the defense would concern me."

11. Utah Jazz (8/18)
What other GM's are saying about Utah:

"They may have jumped ship a bit too quick on the rebuild with the way Barnes/Cole are playing. But Harden is always one of the top SIM players and Siakam is a good two-way player. Just not sure the depth is there to make a legit run."

"Team lacks depth. Players don’t fit, but they have the pieces to get creative at the trade deadline."

"James Harden and Siakam is an interesting duo. Cole Anthony breaking out might propel this team into a high quality playoff team."

12. Orlando Magic (7/22)
What other GM's are saying about Orlando:

"Always keeping things quiet, but always improving his team in small ways. It's a balanced team up and down, it'll be interesting to see if they can trade up with some of their depth."

"Orlando hands down has the best guard rotation in the league. They still need some star power however."

"Solid playoff team with a sneaky good GM, but if you wanna know how to spell “treadmill” look no further than the Magic."

13. Milwaukee Bucks (12/22)
What other GM's are saying about the Milwaukee:

"Looking around in the Eastern Conference, it wouldn't surprise me if they try and cash in on Butler some way. It's a solid trio in Butler, Horford and Gordon, but they wont be contending."

"Still a strong squad but the East has gotten tougher"

"Championship squad is fully gone at this point, and the Bucks are on their way to a treadmill team. Lots of older, but still good, players on expiring deals."

14. Oklahoma City Thunder (16/25)
What other GM's are saying about Oklahoma City:

"On paper the pairing of Simmons/Westbrook seem terrible, but it's so crazy that it might just work in the sim. This team is going to have to be a defensive juggernaut because it might struggle to score points."

"Could there be a worst fit than Westbrook snd Simmons? Trades are needed. Shooting is needed."

"The SIM loves Brodie. Simmons is an elite defender and I will be interested to see what lineups they will put out there. OKC will be battling it out for one of the last playoff spots in the West."

15. Los Angeles Lakers (13/29)
What other GM's are saying about the Lakers:

"Another year, another impressive youth added to the ranks but with a twist. They were able to steal Mitchell away to add to the core. They lack the high end talent that some of the teams in the West have, but it should be the best year that the Lakers had in a while."

"Things looking up in Tinseltown? Garland now gets two big offseason acquisitions one via trade in Spida and the other looks like a nailed draft pick with Mobley. Might be 1 year away though from making noise in the west but trending up!"

"Things are looking up in Lakerland. Mobley and Mitchell were great adds. Can't look past this group this year."

16. Miami Heat (20/26)
What other GM's are saying about Miami:

"The interesting story line to watch with this team is how far will Wiseman crash after that crazy rookie year and can he cash in on any of the veterans he brought back."

"Let me tell you a story about a lotto team who acquired washed up vets to secure a tank."

"Has some talent to be somewhat competitive but from all indications they are interested in a top pick and will make sure they get one."

17. Atlanta Hawks (24/29)
What other GM's are saying about Atlanta:

"Traded Curry to start the rebuild and position themselves for the reset year. Needs some of these young players to hit but they don't have control of there pick this year so they won't be tanking like some of the teams below them but the talent just isn't there yet."

"This team needs talent. Everyone is meh. Ribs is a solid GM, but we’ll see if he’s built for that tank life."

"Honestly im not a fan of any of the players on that team. They need to get someone really good in the draft."

18. Boston Celtics (26/29)
What other GM's are saying about Boston:

"Starting to get back on their feet with asset collection but still a derth of talent"

"They won 4 games last season, which is 4 more than I thought they’d win. If any team could go 0-82 this is the one. Plenty draft capital though which is always good if you can turn them into something."

"Another year and I don't see how Boston doesn't have the worst record. Even with lineup manipulation from other teams just like last year Boston still will win less than 10 games. Next year should be fun though with nearly $900 of dead cap coming off the books and the beginning of those accumulated draft picks starting to come through."
