* pauses to look for Ben *
The scrub that was cut by his national team?
* runs away *
Seriously though. That guy is gonna be a project even more than the other draftees. Cant shoot cant defenf cant score... if he played in the Olynpics we would have gotten to see how he would fare up against players we were more.familiar with... but alas...
why was he cut though?

No. Last thing we need is our millionth prospect in the last decade who can't shoot for crap.

He didn't even make his national team, so he isn't even top 12 in Australia and he's supposed to be top 8 in this draft? Nah I'm good

The very last thing this Magic needs is another PG.

Re: Should the Magic look at Josh Giddey with the 8th pick
Giddey’s skill set is really unique and interesting, but he’s too risky of a pick for this organization at 8.
You can’t teach his size or vision, but he’s so far off physically and if that shot never comes around he will bust.
He’s the kind of guy that makes the Spurs or Jazz look like geniuses but makes the Magic or Kings look like fools

Probably not, and I found Vasquez to have an interesting/unique skill set too. Vasquez was drafted more than 10 years ago lol.

Re: Should the Magic look at Josh Giddey with the 8th pick
I wouldn't have the guts to pick him ...but I wouldn't boo. BBIQ at his age and height is tantalizing. Interviews well, obviously a smart, self-aware kid and that bodes well for his development.
He's definitely on the list of guys that could be the steal of the draft (or a skinny goof that can't shoot). There's a handful of guys that I would greet optimistically if the FO chose them at #8...#5 is the one they need to hit out of the park (or trade up)

Why not?
Markelle Fultz is coming off a torn ACL and now five years into his career still can't shoot at an even passable level for a starting guard.
Cole Anthony is almost assuredly not capable of being a starting point guard on a good team given his limitations.
RJ Hampton is a more of a combo guard or an outright two guard than a point guard.
I will say this until I'm blue in the face, just because you have players, even young/recently drafted players, at a specific position doesn't mean that position is set.

Not at #8.
I feel there are more talented players that will be available at that spot.

I don’t mind Giddey at #8 if they believe he has a higher ceiling than Moody. I personally don’t believe he does.
It’s less about positions and more about skill sets in that situation. Kind of difficult to field a team of players that all have questionable ability of putting the basketball in the hoop.

And Giddey is your answer to the above warts?

I like Giddey over all of the I-can't-shoot forwards mocked in this range. But if it is boom or bust, why not Kai Jones over Giddey?

Not necessarily, no. I like him, but I suspect there will be 3-5 better prospects on the board when the Magic are picking at 8.
My point is more against the blanket statement that the Magic don't *need* a certain position when they quite clearly need better players at every single position 1-5.

Re: Should the Magic look at Josh Giddey with the 8th pick
I like Giddey. I haven’t done a big board, but I suspect that there is the possibility that he is the most promising prospect on the board when our second pick rolls around. That said, it feels like we are leaving value on the board by taking him at 8. It will be difficult to nail down the optimal draft slot for a given player, but I think Giddey could be had a bit later.
Someone mentioned a hypothetical previously about Vassell and the Spurs pick for 8. I really don’t see why the Spurs would do that unless they absolutely fell in love with someone, but that’s the sort of deal I’d be looking for if the intention is to draft Giddey.
There are enough intriguing talents available in this draft such that I’d like to get those extra bites at the apple. There are just a bunch of guys that I like in this draft where selecting them at 8 is a reach.
If I were running this team, I’d snatch up as many intriguing prospects as I could and I’d put everyone on a games/minutes restriction next year with the goal being to use all 15 slots to mine for talent and keep the roster as healthy as possible. I’d play guys on back-to-backs as infrequently as the roster crunch permits and I’d do away with a roster hierarchy. I’d have an egalitarian approach to starts, units, and playing time.
Getting back to Giddey, he’s very intriguing. You can see the deficiencies, but you have to consider just how young he is. Personally, I still had a lot of physical development ahead of me when I was that age. What he has going for him is exceptional vision and distribution to go along with good size. This gives him a very high potential ceiling, but you are going to have to be patient. If he develops nicely, he will be a walking triple-double. I won’t have any issues with him being one of our prizes on draft night.

More reflectively I have noted that for the last 7 years, the Magic has lacked an alpha-scorer at the SG slot. I would like to see one of those in Magic blue. It is not about the PG personnel per se, but my deep desire for a 25+ ppg player on this roster. Only SGs in this draft look to be that type, with Green above Cunningham in that capacity.
For the Dončić draft, I proposed "Orlando should trade its roster" for him. I would not propose that for Cunningham or Green. And back to Giddey, he looks like he has interesting qualities, but I am not sure he protects to a top-30 PG in the NBA. I thus do not really see him as a net-plus for this team over Fultz, Anthony, or Hampton (all of whom might-maybe emerge as a top-30 PG). And thus: I am a no on Giddey basically at any draft line. The Magic don't "need" him.
