Round 2 & Undrafted Bargains in 2021

Post#1 » by payitforward » Mon Jul 5, 2021 3:21 pm

The reason we don't have a R2 pick is that we have lacked this thread. Now we have this thread. Soon we will have a R2 pick.

This is your chance to make dreams come true: who are the guys we should target in R2 & beyond, & how are we going to get a chance at them?

Cooper, McBride, Dosunmu, Christopher, Wieskamp, Edwards, Bassey, Queta, Ayayi, Boston Jr., Sharpe, Petrusev, Sylla, Sims, Cockburn, Nix, Jones, Jokubaitis, Prkacin, Sharpe, Bleijenbergh, Champagnie, other Champagnie, Hauser, Hukporti, Livers, Hauser.... -- you're telling me there's no one we want among all these prospects?

Have at it please!!

Ariel Hukporti could be a beast.

I want Alabama's Herb Jones in round 2. High bball IQ and the best perimeter defender in the draft. Need to improve his 3 ball shooting but there are already signs that that's beginning to happen.

He's a four-year college player and will be capable of contributing (at least defensively) from day one.

I like Kinsey, the G from Marshall. I think his game translates to the NBA quite well. Once he gets more confidence in his 3 pt shot, and stops the silly turn overs, he will do well. He gets to the basket well, hits his FTs, rebounds fine for a G, and actually plays D. Don’t be fooled by his high % on FG though, as quite a few of his shots were dunks and lay ups.

Agreed. Though my only concern is that he profiles a lot like another 6'7, long, athletic, defensive wing we currently have on the roster.

There profiles are eerily similar.

The point is in a pretty loaded draft, you can always find a bargain.

I think Isaiah Livers is worth a hard look if you can get a mid-to-late 2nd rounder. I don't see why he couldn't be a rotation quality 3&D wing.

Joe Wiescamp & Quentin Grimes are intriguing as well.

Other seconds I like include Isaiah Todd, Kessler Edwards, Scottie Lewis, Jay Huff, Luka Garza, Tre Mann, and Nah'shon Hyland. I think these guys will go late 1st - but could slide to 2nd: Isaiah Jackson, Ayo Dosunmo, and Cam Thomas.

Edit: For that 50 something draft and stash - Ibou Badji is for me... I think he could be a really good defensive C in two years. He is young and his body is still catching up to his mind.

Offensively he has solid hands for catching the ball in P&R situations. I think he could actually be pretty good next to Westbrook (edit: Westbrook would be gone by then). I think he is going to develop a short-mid range game. His ideal tutor would be non other than our own Robin Lopez :D

I like to take a look at the fr or under 20 internationals who fell out side the top 60 and see if there is a gem or two there.
Moussa Cisse mem
J.t Thor auburn
D.J Steward duke
Ismael kamagate France
Gabriele procida Italy I think
Matthieu Gauzin and I forgot lol

All young and green but late in the second or undrafted I'd take a flyer on these kids for sure.

Gabriele Procida, he plays for Cantu. He got a lot stronger over the last year but needs to get stronger still - I don't think he can guard an NBA player at this time. But I love his shot...

See! Isn't this fun? I can't remember a draft where there looked to be so many promising prospects from #35 down. We NEED a R2 pick, maybe 2 (or more?).

Do you think one of these kids could be our coach? :)

I'd take a shot at Jordan Schakel out of San Diego State U as an UDFA. He has a little bit of an unorthodox release, but he can absolutely stroke it. Shot 46% from 3 and 91% from the line last year and 44% from 3 and 93% from the line the year before. Ceiling is probably a 3pt specialist but he comes from a winning program and seems like a great kid too. If anything, he'd be a good organizational guy to have around.

In the same vein, Sam Hauser.

Julian Champagnie has dropped out of the draft - he's going back to school.

If Roko Prkacin gets picked in the second he will be a steal and half whoever gets him. Super duper young, kept growing throughout the year and is a very very strong kid (Base).

At pick 15# for your first round have a look at Josh Christopher. Freshman, big size for a guard in the GTJ/KPJ mold and playing SG for the first time (SF in high school).

Shot it fine last six games (40+ 3 ball %) and his FT% is very translatable. 6”4.5” 220+ pounds... he has all the tools and then some. Like Roko they love being bullies (somehow grown men just deviate or bounce off Roko).

Great thing to have size but it’s another story on using it. Both seek opportunity to as you would say throw their weight around.

Potential elite transition scorer. Monster going downhill.
